Hello all, I am planning on jumping in on the saddle game this year and was looking for feedback from those who have used. Thought I was sold on Tethrd and was surprised to see all the different options available on the market today. If anyone has any reviews for the following: Tethrd Phantom, H2 Slingshot, Trophyline Covert Lite, Cruzr XC and Latitude Method, I would appreciate to hear from a user. Not interested in a DIY solution and I have done the price comparisons already. Really looking for end user reviews (ie: walk-in/out, comfort on long sits, fit, feel, etc.). Thanks in advance.

So, mine is a Tethrd Phantom which I hunt from using 2 helium sticks with cable aiders to hit about 11-12 feet pending how I do on spacing and what not.

I've worn Kestrel flex's and almost got one of those - they are AWESOME and I suspect slightly more comfortable, maybe.

My experience is limited to this year and trying a few over the last few years at Pete's get together first and then a localish guy I met.

Walking in, it's basically not noticed. No joke. Walk through cover, the weight of it, the way you can move, zero impact. It's at most, just like the legs part of wearing the harness I used to wear in my climber from Muddy. It's easy on, easy off, adjustable, and simple.

The Trophyline one looks good, but never used it. If you are looking for tons of added reviews, check saddlehunter.com - those folks are a treasure of info.

So, speaking for the phantom, it's worth it. Great saddle, comfortable for the hunts I do - I was never thinking: Get out of this damn thing... I never felt hip pinch that folks talk about etc. It just worked for me, and I enjoyed it.

2nd phantom nothing more to add but a “ditto.”

If you buy it now and hate it you could sell it for almost full price.

I would recommend getting a used saddle with accessories like pouches and hooks. I would buy ropes new just my opinion.

Guys on saddle hunter are constantly buying and reselling. You’re the 4th guy I know who is getting into it now.

Thanks. I have been creeping on saddle hunter reading through their reviews of these saddles as well. Trying to gather as much info as possible before deciding. I would imagine that at the end of the day some saddles are just going to more suited for some people than others. I am hoping to pick one up used to save a few bucks once I decide and was leaning towards a new set of Oplux ropes for tether and linemans.

I ended up with predator sewn eye from DanO. I prefer the thick 11mm feeling. He recommended 3 caribiners but I only used 2. I girth hitched lineman’s and stick it in a pouch.

I will say one thing if you also need sticks: get the short ones. I know this because I didn’t, and I regret it.

05-Jan-21
Jeb do you use an aider to get more height while using the shorter sticks?

I don’t know, I imagine a lot of people do. But with the short sticks (and perhaps more sticks, versus the long ones), you get the height benefit between each stick, which is weightless. Also ease of carrying—these long ones are a little cumbersome, get caught on things a little bit. I imagine that’s less of an issue with the short ones. But I can only imagine, because all of my money’s gone.

Read that wrong. Read it as you now had the short ones lol. There for you can’t give me an answer haha! Oops sorry

Get some of these to put on your molle loops. I put a little lop of paracord on my sticks/platform and then just slide the loop into the J hook. So easy to take the stick/platform off and to put it on in the dark/without looking etc. This was a very good addition to my saddle. Those and the wire aiders from the same place were really good upgrades that helped my confidence and comfort a lot.

I have the short sticks now and had the long sticks and got rid of them because they caught on everything walking in. I went to WE and I like them but to me they take to long to set up (5-10 minutes now) I cut down to 4 of them with an aider. This was my first year with the short sticks I like them but I think an aider may be needed to get more height.

As for saddle this was my first year only a couple hunts but I used a DIY sit drag and my safety harness, but those couple hunts made me want to go all in.

I heard the 20” helium’s had manufacturing defects. A lot of guys make their own via danO but that gets expensive. Some guys cut down the 30” to 20”. Would be interesting to make 3-4 that nested each one would be different but would pack nicely. I realize the distance between steps would be variable

noob, I don't think the helium defects were just the 20"....I think all the latest china batch where crap.

I have only used the Aerohunter Kestral, and will be picking up either a used Kestral Flex, or a Cruzr XC sometime this year. from what I've heard the Phantom isn't good on rope climbs (DRT or SRT) as it moves around too much, but I haven't personally tried it.

I have the H2 slingshot and it is super comfortable to walk in, but I don't find it very comfortable to hang around in. But, I am new at saddle hunting, so it may very well me me, or perhaps my overall body size (I'm pretty thin), but I do get hip pinch which I can't seem to make go away. Otherwise, I like it and I added a couple of pouches which stores my ropes, haul rope, and gear hanging sling.

This is my second season in the latitude method 2 xl. And to be honest I don’t think I’ll ever use a different saddle . Definitely never a single panel

Just climbed into some homemade wooden stands, few tower blinds, not sure I’ll use the saddle this year. Prolly only in Mass.
