Wondering what people were seeing as far as their electric bills. Ours have always been pretty consistent from one month of the year to the same month from previous years. Then all of a sudden the bill for this May went up over 80% from the same month last year. June's bill was 60% higher.

Pretty similar until last month. 50% increase last month...May was about the same as 2021. July will be quite a bit higher if it stays hot.

I put in a new heat/AC system two weeks ago and my usage was down 25% last week. So I figure I'm only out $11.4k instead of $11.5k ;?)

Dang Kyle, printing money off that thing :) We put in a new heat/AC unit 4 or 5 years ago. Our highest bill is usually for August or September. Our highest bill ever has been $357. This June's bill was $410. Based off of previous years our highest bill this year will be around $575. The cost of the actual electricity has gone up about 20% from last year. I am just confused where all the extra usage of coming from

That’s makes me feel a little better about our bill Rancher. The highest we’ve paid since putting in a new system 3 years ago is $215. I’ve been hearing Evergy is going to ramp up rates majorly in the next month, hoping they’re just rumors.

You can put most of the raises on Kansas Corporation commission. Every time Evergy farts for rate increase they grant it. But actually I heard on the news it is Putin's' fault, you know, raiding Ukraine and all that. sarcasm Personally, my electric bill back in early 2000 and for several years would average $55.00 to $75.00, now average $125.00 to 160.00. Same old stuff sucking on the grid so it ain't because I added something. In fact got rid of two freezers. I could go on and on about taxes, tags, insurance, and oh the joy of owning personal property and shoveling out thousands every year just so you can say "i own it". Ha! Just quit paying taxes and see who really owns it. We the people are being taxed into submission.

Rusty does your house have foam insulation? That sounds expensive if you do. Any house I build now I use that and it seems to really help. If an older house didn’t have it I would still consider going in and doing at least the rafters to keep the attic at a decent temperature.

add your cost for power and your fuel adjustment divided by your KW used ours is running more this year to.Most everyone that isn't on Evergy or a coop is getting it from Kansas Power Pool

Our electric bill was $143 last month but never goes over $175. We keep the thermostat at 70 and have an electric water heater. I have been wanting to do solar panels but our bills are never high.

Update! Found the culprit. Water well pump, had it replaced yesterday.

Glad to hear that. Had the same problem on our 220 septic pump a few years ago. Our bill has not gone up much, but expect a big one this month!

Septic pump? Crap is supposed to run down hill.

Dave,

We have hybrid septic systems, our rural development has it’s own wastewater treatment plant. Our houses each discharge into tanks in our yards, gravity fed, then the gray water is pumped up to street level where the water goes to a treatment plant that uses bacteria to cleanse the water.

It took awhile to realize the one way flow valve was stuck on ours so our motor kept running. A 220 uses some juice!

Too bad you have to live like you do. In my country crap runs downhill and if someone told me I had to put in a crap pump I would say you do not belong in this country. Has worked for hundreds of years.

Ha Dave I wish you were down here fighting beside me on this subject. I’m a septic installer and that’s what I keep telling them around here but they keep pushing for the pumps and spraying the junk back on the yards. I put those kind in when I have to but I put up a fight for the people sometimes.

They got to my Dad though…when those kind came out he started liking them and he liked this UV light he was experiencing with. He stuck that light into the end compartment of a septic tank where the pump was. After a couple weeks we went back and he opened the lid and stuck a glass jar into that septic water. Brought it out and looked at it and told me…man that’s pretty clear looking. Never forget that day …as he brought that jar to his mouth I thought surely not. Yep he took a big ole swig of it. I guess with all the road kill he ate that just mixed up well with it though.

Regulations don’t allow it on less than so many acres in MI, county. We only have a 3 acre lot, the largest I think is 7, not for sure on that.
