Unit 16c 2nd archery tag, any intel pls

Hey fellow hunters, drew an awesome archery tag in 16c NM. Super pumped and can’t wait to get boots on the ground. That said I would really appreciate any intel that would help a DIY bowhunter take full advantage of this tag of a lifetime. I’m a fit 59 year old and intend to give it all I got , would greatly appreciate any and all info . Thanks

Throw a dart at the map and you'll have a great hunt, elk are almost everywhere. If you aren't hearing them just be mobile and change locations, eventually you will be on some. I am not gonna tell you where to go and I don't know your elk knowledge but for what it's worth don't get stuck just looking on north or east sides of hills and ridges, Gila elk love all sides the same. IMO finding a spot to hunt in the Gila is more about looking at and knowing typical elk movement thru topography in a large area (big picture)

I believe the fire last year burned some of the south east area.

Mrelite, thanks for the info. Good to know about where the fires were last year. Means some new groceries. Also I was of course looking at more north facing slopes so good to know that these elk dont migrate much and also move about on all aspects. Will have some more info in a week or so when I get to the area for a few days.
