Anybody here apply in the controlled hunt lottery? Recently I had my work area shift East, losing IA & MN and gaining IN & MI. I’ve already incorporated the Maumee walleye run to my schedule, but thought of also adding any public land deer opportunities. Just started researching the Ohio controlled hunt system and kind of couldn’t believe I read right. Is this correct? There’s like 41 bow & gun hunts available and you can buy one chance in as many as you want for $3/each plus registration so potentially 41 x $3 = $123 + $15 = $138 ? I can’t believe this is correct. According to the stats posted on the ODNR website, the higher demand hunts have a snowballs chance in hell of like 1/1,000? I have better odds than that of drawing some bighorn sheep tags. If right this system seems crazy. Can someone verify?

If so, it seems to be stacked against those who want to scout and target some specific properties, or regions. And in favor of those who are willing to dump $138 for something anywhere. If you only want one of the best hunts, that just ain’t gonna happen.

Just noticed a guy must first buy a deer tag in order to enter the controlled hunts. Ya, that ain't gonna happen………not fer those odds.

Zim sorry I just saw this, I did not know odds were posted. I have heard some can be good hunts with like you said not worth buying a tag and hoping.
