Good luck! I've certainly seen them down there. Saw one sow with three different color cubs many years ago.

Right on, thanks. I’ve got 3 scouting trips planned. I almost wasn’t going to take my bow, I didn’t wanna get distracted from the point of the trip but, I’ll have to just take it and see what happens.

Do you have an elk tag, hence the reason to not take your bow? I.e. get sidetracked with a bear when you're hunting something else? You do know when you leave your bow at home is when a bear will stand and stare at you from the side of the road, right? LOL

For sure carry your bow every time you hit the woods so long as bear season is open and you have a tag.

Best of luck!

I have a deer hunt there in January. Never been there so I planned 3 scouting trips. This was the first.

Had an epic night sitting outside with a serious lightning storm and elk bugling everywhere. A full swing madhouse.

Then, the rains came. Next thing I know I’m running for the truck because my brand new canvas tent, first time out in the woods, is flooding. water got so high it came in through the bottom of the door. The floor felt like a water bed. Water was over the ankle inside when I started cleaning up.

Hope this thing drys out enough and doesn’t mold.

Never went from totally epic to epic sh$$ storm so fast in my life.

Sounds like an eventful scouting trip! You after whitetail, mule deer, or whatever you can find?

Drying out tents is probably the thing I hate most about tent camping. That said, it shouldn't be that hard to dry out if you set it up in the yard. I've never had that much water in my Kodiak, but I've certainly had the waterbed effect from water running under it.

Yea, I’m after anything. I’m not a trophy hunter but I like to hunt something that’s had some life experience. Makes me feel better.

Forecast for that weekend was no rain. It floods. Got the tent set up in the back yard, it was windy all day so I’m thinking it’ll definitely be dry by tonight. I look at my weather app, no rain. But, looks like it’s gonna rain.

I keep telling my son he needs to be a meteorologist. Just smile and lie to people, no accountability, great paycheck. Like a politician that doesn’t have to rely on votes.

Last year the bear season in Unit 34 ended, I believe, Oct. 11'th. Make sure you look at the bear season closures portion of the game and fish website. Each unit closes when the harvest target is approached. Here is a link to that site-https://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/download/hunting/species/bear/Bear-sport-harvest-101023.pdf

Yea, I’m aware of the regs. I check the closures out of curiosity regularly.
