Some things are not readily apparent until put into practice. In '88 I found out about the whole dominant eye thing and switched rather quickly and never regretted it. 1988 I was in my mid thirties and some things came rather easy. Five years ago I had what was diagnosed as a mini stroke that took my dominant eye from 20/15 to 20/200 in a week. If you pretty much have one good eye you have to go with what you have. I have had both shoulders surgically repaired so getting a right-handed bow light enough to again switch seems difficult. If I can find a mathews solo cam with 50 pound limbs I think I can pull it off. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks

Lame, groundhunter found a nice low poundage bow. Ask him.

Dennis, I can 't depend on my dominant eye , I'm diabetic & suger levels affect my eyes . So I shoot with both eyes open & it works .

I have a 20 year old Mathews that started out at 70 lbs . As I aged I ordered 60 lb limbs & 6 years ago I ordered 50 lb & adjusted those to 43 lbs . And I exercise with power bands several times a week year around .

This is going to take a while to accomplish but I am patient. When I first started this mission I called an "archery " shop and their answer was to come into the shop and we'll fit you with a nice crossbow. I am a bowhunter, not just an opportunist. I need to have a well balanced lightweight bow because in 2002 an infection kind of ate a third of the muscle on top of my left shoulder. I'm willing to do whatever it takes.

Switching to shooting the "other" way and using the non-dominant eye can be done. Back in 2017 I had shoulder surgery and needed to switch over to left handed shooting for that fall's bow season. Although it took a bit of work I did so and was successful by taking a buck and a doe during the rut. Note: this was with a compound bow, not a crossbow. Lame crowndip, are you switching to left-handed? If so, let me know, I may have just the bow you need,...completely set-up,...sling, stabilizer, sight, rest, quiver, etc., etc.

Anyone that has made the switch try something like the Genesis? I was thinking the low poundage would help to make getting the motion easier.

Regardless of issues, I have always shot both eyes open. Trad or compound. You need to have peripheral vision in hunting, at least that is what I think. Good luck

I've been at this project for quite a while. I've been shooting with a genesis bow to get used to the right handed motion (between 1500 and 2000 arrows). I need to find a bow (rh) that fits and doesn't torture my shoulders. I like the feel of the solo cam Mathews bows and I've heard that the no cam is OK. Most of the ones I've found online are 70 pounds and I need 50 pound limbs and 28 or 28.5. draw length. Most of the new ones I've looked at have more aggressive cams than I'd prefer. Any thoughts?

Mattews Image, 43lbs. You might want to look at.

I'll check out the image but a solo cam is what I'm interested in.

Check with Ruger, I believe he has one at 50lbs, he had it on this site, if I am not mistaken....

Case...I answered your PM but I'm not sure if you got it.

I found what I was looking for this morning at A1 archery in Hudson, WI. I ended up with an Elite Terrain (sp). I looked at a bunch of different bows and this one just fit perfectly.

The only one interested in this probably goes by lame crowndip. When I went looking for a new bow I had a checklist. 1. It had to go to a low draw weight. I'm at 43 pounds (217 fps). 2. Had to be adjustable (45 to 60 pounds ) and draw length is really adjustable with out changing cams. 3. It needed to be lighter (3.9 pounds). 4. Cams needed to be somewhat less aggressive than most. 5. Needed to be quiet (it is) 6. Brace height needed to be at least 6 3/4, This checklist is long but the Elite checked all the boxes. The Terrain comes with Winners Choice strings and cables. The price is almost half of some of the "flagship " bows out there. It never occurred to me to explore Elite but thanks to "Little John " at A1 in Hudson, I'm glad I did.

Sounds like it all worked out.

Everyone has a story and here's a thumbnail of mine: I grew up on a farm in SW Pennsylvania. I learned as a kid to make bows, first using baler twine and hickory saplings. Some didn't survive more than dozen shots. I found out about Osage orange that was almost indestructible and strong. After I left the farm in 1970 I got busy with a career (crime lab) and a family. I hunted hard for a lot of years and as far east as Newfoundland and as far west as Alberta. Health problems started in 2002 when I had a rotator cuff repair that got infected and it took almost a year to feel better. This is my left shoulder and infection kinda ate some of the muscle on the top of the shoulder that makes for a weaker bow arm if you need to switch to shooting right handed. In 2017 I had some sort of mini stroke that pretty much wiped out my left eye. I lost interest in hunting for a few years but a friend helped me get going again. This is NOT intended as a "pity party " but just where I'm coming from. I think I'm going to be able to make the switch to right handed and I'm convinced I'll be a better shooter for it. Thanks
