I have been reading the regs and can't find exactly what I want. I am wondering if my 17yr old can go out by himself to rifle hunt deer? And can him and his 14yr old brother go out together? The only thing I can find in the regs is that there are age restrictions only during the youth season

And both of them hunt?

I would all Pratt and talk to the legal department if it was me.

I was under the impression once you passed hunter safety you were good to go solo (except for the weird youth season rules you cited). 11 is the current minimum age to be hunter ed certified. If they don’t have hunter ed, then an adult has to be present for both and the 17 year old has to buy a permit that voids the hunter ed requirement for 16 and up. Best to call though I suppose.

I think they are good to go. They both took hunter ed at age 12. They are wanting to go Saturday and Sunday and I have plans both days. I hate missing out, but it's also probably good that they learn to do it on their own

I had a 4x4 GMC S-15 and a school/work permit. I hunted everywhere at age 15 by myself or with friends. Even got pulled over by a Sherriff deputy once and he didn't ticket me. Shot my first antlered buck, a 9 point half a mile from the road by myself. Drove to a ranch 10 miles away to get a cow puncher buddy, then to get my dad and drag it out.
