THANKS GUYS! LOL ED! Yep, that’s the crew plus Rob and Darryl. 1st drive no deer. 2nd drive produced deer. Got by Darryl no shot. Andy mused one and Smoke(driver) almost got run over. They got by out of range of me but one circled back and is bedded across creek from me behind brush. Dan and Rob gonna go to opposite end and push towards us. Hopefully the doe gets up and comes a little closer into an opening!

Watched her for over an hr. She got up at one point but stayed in the brush. Only moved about 25 feet. No shot. Her back left leg was messed up(was limping) Hated to do it but had to leave her for next drive when she bedded a second time. Just no clear shot and she didn’t want to move from that spot. If she had gone another 50 feet she might have come into an opening.

On to drive # 4...................

Good luck guys!

Here, hold my beer Jeff! ;-)

Drive #4 was productive! Dan Smoker shot a button buck and I had a deer moving in the opposite direction of the drive so I moved 25 feet or so to try to get a shot, but she must have turned because she didn’t come out into the opening. After Dan shot I was waiting for the drivers to come thru. Andy had deer come out to him but he couldn’t get a shot. He was on the other side of the creek. He came towards me and I thought the drive was over. All of a sudden I hear: “Perry- DEER!” I look up about 40y in front of me I see a doe trotting towards me(coming right at me!) I drew and when she got to 20y I grunted- she spun around and I took a shot quartering away as she trotted away. Unfortunately the arrow sailed harmlessly over it’s back! : (

It was a lot of fun today. Saw 3 foxes during a PM sit waiting for the drivers to come thru. 2 were running together. One of them fell asleep 30 yards in front of me. I must have stood till for a half an hour. A flock of blue birds gathered around the sleeping fox, then they all flew off when he got up from his nap. Cool.

Sounds like a good time. Another miss Perry? I am available most weekends for lessons, just sayin.

Nice to see all of you together hunting!

Yes- another miss, albeit very quick and unexpected.............never missed twice in a season! But I’m going out this morning for (hopefully) redemption.

I’ll post the conclusion to this when I have a better signal. Had it typed up last night but it wouldn’t post and then lost it.

Always great to get together with the “5C crew” for a hunt whether it is early, mid or late season! : )

Ok- I’m setup in 3D with a better signal this morning , so here is the conclusion.

Final drive yesterday. Andy Darryl and I walked to the back hedgerow of a large field. Andy was at the far corner, Darryl was set up where there middle hedgerow met the back, and I was headed to the near back corner. As I get near the corner at 3:15 I see a buck coming out of the back hedgerow about 20y from the corner where I was headed. Of course as soon as it saw me it ran back into the hedgerow and turned left and ran past Dan and Rob who were getting ready to push towards us. : ( If I had just gotten there 10 min sooner..................

A little while later a doe comes out into the field and gets between Andy and Darryl. Looks like Andy was gonna get a shot but before it got close it circled and headed back towards Darryl. She didn’t come all they way in and stayed just on the edge of his effective range but wasn’t getting any closer so he took a Long shot and it sailed right under her belly.

Dan pushed 6 deer towards where he THOUGHT Art would be but apparently Art had called an audible! They came out closer to the road out of range and then crossed the road. And that ended the day.

So we had a very eventful day, everyone except Art got a shot and we didn’t get skunked! We saw deer on every drive and had fun chasing them around! Lot different than the early season 5 C hunt!

We gathered around Andy’s truck and took a group pic with Dan’s deer to end the day.

30-Dec-23
Sounds like a great time!

It WAS Phil! We have a great group of guys- lots of laughs yesterday! : )

And a BIG Thanks to Rob for being our “designated driver!” He was tagged out so we all took turns pushing with him. But he put the most miles on!

And I only fell down twice on Friday. The second time was kind of funny. I slipped starting down a bank and my fanny pack landed on a small broken off sapling and I had trouble getting disentangled from it while getting my footing. Glad nobody saw me.

30-Dec-23
LOL, it's just like it never happened! Good luck!

I think I did see your “skid marks” on the bank when I came looking for you Art. ;-)

But that ain’t nothin’! I fell sideways over a garbage can in the driveway on Thursday night while I was packing the vehicle! Went down like a ton of bricks and landed on my shoulder! THANK GOD I didn’t do any major damage to anything but my pride!

30-Dec-23
Sounds like a good time was had by all. Good times. Thanks for the write up.

I forgot to mention, I did hit a buck early that morning..............,,,,about 4:30 on Route 209 just south of Dingman’s Ferry! Came around a corner and there were 2 nice bucks STANDING in my lane! One on the right ran off the road, the one on left started to go left and at last minute spun and went right. I hit the brakes but couldn’t quite stop in time and “tapped” his hind quarter with my bumper. Thankfully no damage to vehicle or deer. But that’s just the way this season has gone.............
