Got a favorable wind tonight in 5D finally, last night was terrible. Soggy, wet conditions trying to sneak in there, got in before 1. Absolutely had a good west wind, settled in. Seen 3 come in behind me, they were in range, no shots as they were straddling the fence between the pasture and our property, I chose to pass, not chasing arrows in a pasture, doesn't make good neighbors. One more big doe comes down the opposite trail, but no clear shot, I waited for her to clear, she beds down 20 yards away behind a tree. That wasn't going to happen. I hung up the bow, and sat patiently, still bedded. I kept checking behind her, seeing if anything else was coming. 3pm, no dice. I look again and here comes a mature doe, down the same trail, but I was able to get on her before she got through one opening. Meh to her, she stopped and made a text book shot on her, she fell within sight. Big doe, good shot and recovery.

And this closes the book on 2023 as I am out of tags for this season. Eventful year, 1 buck, 6 does. 5 donations to hunters sharing the harvest, and 2 land owners that are happy with those results with invitations back next season. I was very fortunate to be shooting very well this year, and all great recovery, no surprises. To those that are still out chasing, good luck and have a great new year.

Lastly, if 5C and 5D were not sold out, there were more doe than the group of us for those 2 properties could harvest.

Guess I'll be heading home Tuesday with my 2 5-c tags unless I find a spot for Monday afternoon. Still have a couple 2-d tags tho. Nice one there Junior.

Had a herd come of about 10 doe trickle past me at first light yesterday morning. I was fortunate enough to get a shot on the 2nd to last doe. Was a fairly easy track job with a painted path but when I saw she went into the swamp I went home to get changed and get help. Luckily I did while dragging her out my one foot sank far into the swamp and I fell backwards pulling the doe on top of me, my buddy had ro come pull the deer off and help me get up

That’s about as good as it gets John! Congrats on an EXCELLENT year!

Andy- you might consider a wet suit the next time you hunt there! ;-)

I’m on the other end of the spectrum so to speak! Still have 5 doe tags to fill. So I’ll be in a stand the next couple weekends trying to fill at least one...................

Sat a new property in 3D yesterday but nothing was moving there.

Filled my 6th doe tag at my house in 5D Saturday afternoon just as the snow was switching to sleet. The neighbor on the other side of the woods wasn't too happy seeing everything unfold...including me cutting it up. Oh well, it's not my fault all the greenery is gone.
