From CPW Website: About the Commission-- The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is a citizen board, appointed by the Governor, which sets regulations and policies for Colorado’s state parks and wildlife programs.
The 11 voting members of the commission include three members who are sportspersons, one of whom must be an outfitter; three agricultural producers; three recreationalists, including one from a non-profit, non-consumptive wildlife organization; two at-large members. Members are expected to represent all parks and wildlife-related issues, regardless of their affiliation. A minimum of four commissioners must be from west of the Continental Divide.
How long does the Governor have to nominate a new candidate? (I believe the seat has been unfilled since July of 2023 when Commissioner Blecha's term expired.)
They must represent sportspersons and be from west of the Continental Divide as currently only 3 of the 4 seats are geographically filled. We are short that sportspersons vote on major issues ahead.
Any candidate needs to be recommended, or not, by the Natural Resource committee and then approved by the Colorado Legislation, that being from January to May 8th. 2024, There might not be time to do that this year but wait and see.
Recess appointments are allowed Paul. The previous set of 3 were appointed and never approved until the next legislative session. Those 3 were Bailey, Reading, and Otero.
The nat resources committee never took them up til the next legislative session, because 2 of 3 didnt have votes to pass, but they functioned and voted as commissioners in the interim. Once the D's expanded their majority, the passed the following year. THAT'S POLITICS!
ok, thanks for the clarification
In retrospect I've changed my mind. Skiba would have represented sportsmen well. All the other commissioners had alot of respect for him. Could have been a concensus builder in supporting hunting. Skiba testified against the mountain lion hunt ban last year, where as Beaulieu testified for it. Sounds like we went after wrong people. The qualified candidate dropped out, the unqualified animal rights activist got approved. Shot ourselves in the foot.
Skiba is not a friend of hunters. He's also pro wolf. Not as bad as Beaulieu who spearheaded the lion and bobcat ban a couple years ago. We are so screwed at this point it doesn't really matter whose on there.
I agree with Orion. We are screwed until we can get Front Range Senators out of Polis's control and reach. I expect between now and the elections that more damage will done to any form of hunting and fishing or the taxes associated with some of the products. Can't believe how quickly the outdoor wheels are coming off the electric bus.
Thill, Polis was reelected in 2022, so we are screwed till 2026 three more years of this leftist tyrant.
Skiba isn't someone we want on the Commission. I'm glad he backed off. That said, it would be foolish to expect someone better from Polis
