2 grandkids and I are practicing with the bows. We have Turkey tags in April & May . Walleyes are starting to stage below the dams in Lincoln County. Caught 2 good eaters last nite & a 39 inch Musky. That was fun .

Just picked my boat up yesterday, so getting that ready for the opener. Had a damn grey squirrel get into my shed and started making a nest. Found that it was coming up through a knot hole in the floor. So, patched all those up last week. I thought it was out of the shed because I never heard it, so I thought I was good. Well, I opened the door this past weekend and the thing was scurrying around, WTF. Here, it chewed a 2" hole in through the roof. So, I plugged that up and left the door open so it would come out. It would not come out, so I had to set a trap for it. Got it this morning. Now I have to re-roof the whole thing!!!

We had 2 squirrels get in our hunting camp. They came thru the stack and the wood stove door was left open. They did a number on alot of window trim, curtains etc etc. They couldn't get back out and both were dead. A screen was installed on the stack asap.

Was able to get my turkey this morning. Quick recap of my hunt. I set up in a long narrow hay field and of course I set up on the wrong end of said field. About 615 I look down the field and see multiple birds. 1 being this tom and 4 possiblity 5 hens. 3 hens started making there way towards me and that's when I noticed one of my hen decoys is laying on the ground no idea what happened there. Thought I had it in good this morning in the dark. Well the 3 hens didn't like that and never even came close. About 5 minutes later I look down the field again and see the tom and another hen making there way towards me. He was pretty much chasing her like a whitetail buck in fall. All of a sudden he saw my Jake decoy (had 1 hen tipped over laying on her side 1 Jake and 1 feeder hen out) and he sprinted as fast as he could possibly run to jump on that Jake decoy and knock it off its stake also. So now 2 of my 3 decoys are laying on the ground and that's when I decided it was time to finish my hunt.

Congratulations. I've only turkey hunted once. 20 years ago and I learned they pick up the slightest movement as good as a deerst e even further away. The only Tom I saw he busted me lifting my head up for a tad better view. He was at least 100 yards away maybe more in a Hatfield and off he ran like that bird Wily Coyote chases. Looking at your pop up blind, it confounds me that they don't notice that just popped up. Anyway thanks for sharing

Thanks Mike- I agree its a great pic. I'm planning on surprising my nephew with a big canvas print of it for Xmas this year, will get my son one as well. Will be taking my son and a few more nephews out again this weekend as long as the weather cooperates. Hell of a lot more fun watching them pull the trigger.

Pretty chaotic morning. Killed one of the first two Toms that came in and his buddy refused to leave. Turned into a fun hour watching a few Jake’s battle with a couple Toms. Glad I was able to squeeze one out before it really got nasty out this weekend.

Thanks Bill! Looking forward to getting together, how about you? I have a couple busy weeks ahead of me, and then a couple more turkey seasons, but early summer perhaps? 6 yards of dirt getting delivered Wednesday, then 4 yards of mulch on Monday, then I have to plant my tomatoes minimum lol. They grew far too fast, and I apparently started them way too early. Added 4 new raised beds and a couple trellises to the garden, and that project of filling beds, removing sod, laying down cardboard between the beds, adding a brick border, then spreading mulch is needing my attention. After that, I'm available for a fieldtrip to the museum if you're up for it? I believe Will and Jim mentioned wanting to go as well? Busy busy busy!

Nice catch Glen. I pickled a couple batches of fish the last couple weeks. I dug out an old recipe of my mom’s. It is a real easy one. Fish, onions, pickling spices, salt, sugar, and vinegar. NO boiling! It’s very good. Anyone interested in details and directions, let me know. If you like pickled fish, this is a good one.

I have also been canning salmon. If you have never canned fish, it’s so good. Happy to share notes with anyone. We can lots of stuff: bear, deer, chicken, fish rabbit, turkey, salsa, vegetables……..perfect small projects for rainy days.

The finished product from last weeks bird , Love these nuggets but wondering if anyone has a good recipe for doing the whole breast , like perhaps in the crock pot

From: Live2Hunt

Ridge, that was going to be my plan if I shoot a bird. Looking good!!!

From: RUGER1022

My favorite breast recipe.

Cut breast into 3/4 to 1 inch stripes . Salt & pepper , wrap with bacon . Bake at 375 degrees until bacon is crunchy.

From: Ridge Runner
01-May-24
Thanks Glen , That sounds delicious too , Daughter has a tag this week and we all have some extra tags for 5th & 6th so will have to try that recipe if successful

From: CaptMike
01-May-24
We sometimes cook the two breast halves in a slow cooker with chicken broth, then shred for sandwiches.

From: Hoot

The 1st time we cooked a bird was in a slow cooker, little did I know you have to cook it for two weeks. lmao

Cut breast in cubes, wrap with bacon. Dunk in your favorite mustard and then grill them. They are freakin great and only way my kids will get them

It is amazing how Bacon makes everything taste wonderful.

From: retro
01-May-24
To me wild turkey has absolutely zero taste. That's why all the recipes tell you to marinade it for 2 years, wrap it in bacon, sprinkle 24 different spices on it, and then finish it off by dunking it in barbecue sauce or something like it...Yeah, turkey is delicious...lol

Trempealeau Fishing Float, I don’t have a fishing boat so I drive 2 1/2 for the fishing, it’s not the prettiest float but it is the least amount of people and in my opinion it’s the best fishing of all the floats. It is 5:30 am I’m heading west of Mankato Mn then onto Iowa for their walleye opener
