"The only thing the Republicans have going for them is that they oppose Obamacare. But even that is only because it is not a Republican health care plan. Back in 2003 the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act, the largest expansion of Medicare since LBJ’s Great Society, was instituted by a Republican-controlled Congress with the full support of the Republican leadership and signed into law by a Republican president. Only 9 Republicans in the Senate and 25 in the House joined the vast majority of Democrats in both Houses in voting against “Bushcare.”"
20% of Republican senators scored 80% or higher. Dem senators averaged about 3%.
But to you trash talkers, they are both the same. RUN FOR OFFICE - if you think you can do better!
BTW, my Rep scored 100% and almost lost the primary because of the "they are all alike" mentality of the supposedly enlightened "conservative" voters. How does that help solve the problem?
If you take time to look at the data on the website there is no way to equate the two parties on the votes covered by the survey.
Sounds like a made-up statistic to me, unless I missed that fact somewhere. If that is true, then it is also true that 5% of the American public wouldn't score 90% or higher on the liberal socialist test either. Do you see the democrats declaring war on the liberal socialists that comprise it's base? Why not?
"20% of Republican senators scored 80% or higher. Dem senators averaged about 3%.
But to you trash talkers, they are both the same."
So at the top of the scale, there is a 17% difference between the two parties and you think that is significant? Does the fact that the overwhelming majority of democrats live for destroying everything this country was founded upon, and relish the thought of destroying you and your children's way of life and future make you feel any better about that? If I told you I was 17% better than Stalin, would you support me?
"BTW, my Rep scored 100% and almost lost the primary because of the "they are all alike" mentality of the supposedly enlightened "conservative" voters. How does that help solve the problem?"
Sounds to me like your rep did a crappy job of telling his constituents exactly what he believes, what he has done, and how he has voted to me. Either that, or your district is full of voters who would rather pay lip service to the ideals and principles that the republican party says it is founded upon, rather than actually living those principles. Either way, it's not the fault of the conservative base. As a matter of fact, I would bet that if your rep scored 100% on this, that it was the party establishment that was working against him. Who was his opponent? Let's look into him. Just for kicks.
"If you take time to look at the data on the website there is no way to equate the two parties on the votes covered by the survey."
The elected representatives aren't the party. The scores of individuals within the party cannot reflect the party establishment, when the party establishment is in the midst of an all out war upon the base of the party, doing all the things that have been so well documented here and elsewhere. Meanwhile, they busy themselves telling voters how much they embrace conservative values, principles, and policies, as the simultaneously work to destroy those values, principles, policies, and the very people who are trying to implement them.
Worth what you paid for it.
"So at the top of the scale, there is a 17% difference between the two parties "
That is not true. A high percent of democrats score 0%. Dem AVERAGE is roughly 3%. I only saw one over 20% Republican average is probably in the high 60's (I didn't calculate it). The only two under 50% were Murkowsi and Collins.
That means that well over 95% of conservative votes cast were cast by republicans. Put another way, an elected Republican is 2000% more likely to vote conservative than an elected democrat.
The statistical difference would be much higher for those elected after 2003.
"Who was his opponent?" Somebody who said that it is time to do a "clean sweep" of Washington. He was almost beaten by voters who just wanted to throw the bums out. Voters are falling for that leftist mantra that all politicians are crooks instead of paying attention. I see it on here too.
"The elected representatives aren't the party." It was Spike's link making that argument, not me. And they they used the statistics dishonestly. As I read your post, you are making nearly the same argument.
Again - show me one elected representative who is voting conservative and was not elected as a republican. You can't.
To tell the truth, after reading the article, the numbers became less important to me. The writer is obviously hard libertarian. I've never made the case that there is no difference between the parties. My thing has always been that the republican establishment are frauds, and it makes them worse than democrats to me because the victims of their fraud is conservative voters who believe their lies.
The fact that they continue to do this proves to me that they in fact do not believe in any of the values and principles that I believe in, which makes the PARTY no different than democrats. This is why I do not, and will not support the party in any way. If the party has successfully promoted a candidate who is no more conservative than another available candidate, I will not vote for the republican in hopes of maintaining power and majorities for a party I do not believe in.
At least when you see me say there is no difference in the parties, you know what I mean. I have no problem voting republican, as long as they are conservative. If not, I assume republicans didn't want my vote anyway.
All Politian's suck! The lot of em! They ALL eventually take one for the team and sell their souls! Its sucks but not one over the last 50 years was perfect and they never will be.
This argument is tiring because it us same dolts arguing it every month. We need some fresh blood or some trolls. lol
1. Democrats are leftists
2. Republicans are not 100% pure. If they vote wrong once they are just like democrats.
3. Therefore it does no good to elect republicans
4. The best alternative is (choose one)
A. Don't vote to teach the republicans a lesson
B. Vote for democrats to teach the republicans a lesson
C. Do away with elected government
or D. ??????
I also think we try a little too hard to explain why we aren't going to toe that line anymore, and the perception is that we are trying to convince others. I'm not trying to convince anyone, and don't feel any more responsible for the losses and destruction than those who are ok with nominating liberal republicans in the first place.
I am a conservative. I won't apologize for, nor have any regrets about voting for conservative candidates. I won't be frightened, goaded, guilted, or shamed into voting for a liberal. It matters not whether they have a D or an R after their name.
I just decided that if I can't in good conscience vote for any listed candidate, I'm going to write in HA/KS's name.
The Rock
The fact is that even the "conservatives" here cannot agree on every issue. How is an elected conservative representative to keep the voters happy? It is impossible in the current climate.
The leftists, however, know that they are better off taking what they can get from any democrat over any republican. Even though many democrats had perfect "anti-conservative" voting records, many did not. Are the leftists throwing them out of office? Absolutely not. They know that getting part of their agenda is better than getting none of it.
Give me your honest opinion. If the next election results in a Republican in the White House, and majorities in both houses of congress, give me the percent chance that you think the following would happen.
1. Complete repeal of Obamacare and all it's trappings and a return to free market solutions for healthcare.
2. The closure of our borders to illegal immigration, with the creation of a secure, defendable border and personnel to ensure that we never have another invasion of illegal immigrants.
3. The re-examination of all government entities not enumerated in the Constitution, resulting in either their abolishment, or a constitutional amendment authorizing their existence.
4. The re-establishment of states rights as stated in the Constitution, stripping the federal government of the power it has wielded over nearly every aspect of our lives, dictating to the states what is acceptable.
If you don't think the chances are good for each of these things, then we are really only re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, aren't we? We are on the edge of having more people drawing assistance from the government than we have paying in. It is not a matter of if our present form of government fails, it is a matter of when. If the republicans were in power from now on, do you honestly see them fixing it in a significant enough way to prevent the inevitable?
When was there "free market solutions" to Healthcare? The States regulated Healthcare almost as much as Obamacare did.
As for you other demands, since it was never done in the past why do you think it will be done now? As far as being unconstitutional that is why we have the Supreme Court.
I agree, the market usually comes up with the proper solutions. Before Obamacare was even in place healthcare was messed up in New York since the state had put in its own mandates on the insurance companies.
Anony Mouse's Link
The upcoming mid-term elections should be seeing a vast surge in support of Republican candidates due to wide spread negatives when it comes to the Obamunists' in the areas of:
1. Obamacare 2. Democrat support for illegal invaders 3. Open/elimination of borders 4. IRS 5. Holder DO(in)J 6. Terrorism 7. Government wasteful spending 8. ad nauseum
The eRepubs are doing what so many have accused the Democrats of doing--repeating the same FAILs and expecting different outcomes: adopting the policies of the left (Dem-lite)thinking that will change the voting habits of the Democrat plantation slaves.
Boehner and cohorts should just wear buttons with the word: FAIL on them.
Our persistent idiot PEST has returned!
At some point we are going to be too weak to recover. I would rather the fall come while there are enough producers to overcome the will of the takers and politicians.
