Cruz, a Texan who is running for president but ranks low in early polling, delivered the broadside in a speech on the Senate floor, an extraordinary departure from the norms of Senate behavior that demand courtesy and respect. At issue are assurances Cruz claimed McConnell, R-Ky., had given that there was no deal to allow a vote to renew the federal Export-Import Bank – a little-known federal agency that has become a rallying cry for conservatives. Cruz rose to deliver his remarks moments after McConnell had lined up a vote on the Export-Import Bank for coming days.
“It saddens me to say this. I sat in my office, I told my staff the majority leader looked me in the eye and looked 54 Republicans in the eye. I cannot believe he would tell a flat-out lie, and I voted based on those assurances that he made to each and every one of us,” Cruz said. “What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie.”
A spokesman said McConnell would have no response. The majority leader was not on the Senate floor when Cruz issued his attack.

"Now the Republican leader is behaving like the senior senator from Nevada," Cruz complained. He also derided an announcement from McConnell that the Senate will vote Sunday to repeal Obama's health care law, calling it "an empty show vote" and "exercise in meaningless political theater" because the legislation will inevitably fail to get the 60 votes needed to advance.
"We keep winning elections and then we keep getting leaders who don't do anything they promised," Cruz said.
This is a big deal. This is going to force the rest of the field/party to take a stand, did you see the look on "Madame President's" face?
It will interesting to see if Mcconnells lacky "RAND" sides with Cruz or continues to lick the liars boots.
He has also began describing the unholy Beltway trilogy of lobbyists, career politicians and big business as the "Washington Cartel." He gets it.
His only liability in my mind is that his wife works for Goldman Sachs. That's a red flag for anyone paying attention to the mechanisms behind national politicians and federal government.
I am very impressed.

His wife Heidi actually took an unpaid leave from Goldman during the campaign. There were several stories about it in late March. It sounds like her job description is essentially as a financial adviser to the very wealthy. I don't see anything nefarious in that. Even the very wealthy need advise on how best to preserve and increase their wealth.

You can thank TRUMP for Cruz coming out with this like he did.
Trump has set the pace for this horserace, and I love it!!!
Tight lines, My guess is Cruz will get a big bounce after today. Cruz is exceptionally bright and articulate and will have a good a shot at the middle.
Cruz will do better as time goes. It's a long race, long way left in it. In fact few "frontrunners" this early seem to do very well when things tighten up. For some reason the fickle public watch the bottle rocket fire up into the air, kaboom.... oohhhh, aahhhh..... fizzle.... Then stumble around looking for another rocket.... rockets that make it need 3, 4, 5 stages....
Have you already forgotten his filibuster and how mad the republican leadership was at him?
Don't get me wrong, I believe that Cruz has the stuff and I'd love to see him take the lead, but my point was that it was Trump's bold statements recently and all the media attention that he's getting that I think was one of the resaons why Cruz did what he did in regards to McConnell.
It's kind of like the old, "there's is no such thing as bad publicity" saying.
Basically, Trump is beginning to force the others to actually SPEAK OUT on the obvious because he's the one getting all the PR.
One thing's for sure, we will be getting our money's worth of entertainment in the coming year!!!
YES!!! You nailed it! FOLLOW THE DOLLARS!
Right now, anyone who liked what Cruz did should SEND HIM SOME MONEY. Politicians are like dogs. They learn REAL quick to respond to treats, only in this case the treats are $$$.
That's why Trump has them all stymied as he doesn't NEED anyone's $$$. It's like he brought a machine gun to a water pistol fight.
Good points WW,Rhody.
The Rock
Whaa...ME? Surely you jest Pat!
1. They don't listen to us.
2. They respond to every whim of the public.
Are you sure you don't have that backwards? Trump is a salesman, and a good one. He's not what I'd call a conservative but he's said a few things that ring true with conservatives. He's entertaining as hell but I'm not sure conservatives would be very happy with Trump as POTUS. Cruz has been a constitutional conservative for as long as he's been in politics... He's nowhere near as fun to watch as The Donald..
Yes! And I will vote for him as soon as possible.
