One thing that bothers me about Trump and the others who have never been elected is that they do not have a government track record. The candidates who have been governor have a record that can be seen.
this article addresses ONLY one issue - spending while they were governor. It goes into some depth about the information available.
I know that I will be called a bushie for posting this. I was surprised by his conclusion and it will not change my mind about his less than conservative politics.
To me, cutting taxes is meaningless unless it includes dismantling the tax code and IRS.
I do NOT believe that Bush would do anything to cut spending on the federal level OR rein in the IRS. Not sure ANY of the governors would.
Added - Walker still is far and away my favorite among the governors.
He certainly holds a position on it. As a former governor and present presidential candidate, any candidate I vote for will have to clearly detail it along with what actions he will take on tax code and tax bureaucracy if he intends to serve in public office and wants my vote.
I think most intelligent voters realize government is too flippin' BIG and INTRUSIVE and one of the most effective ways to help change that is to cut off their ability to sell tax regulation favors in their bid for office.
You're right, I KNOW Bush or any of the others won't.
My preference of governors would be Gary Johnson. You wouldn't like him. He clearly lays out his positions that substantially reduce the size of government via taxes (national sales tax, eliminate IRS, no capital gains tax, eliminate corp taxes, eliminate Dept. of Ed., supports gay unions, want's government out of marriage business. Supports legalize, tax, regulate MJ and he can't win.
Pretty sure Stossel is a flaming Libertarian, not Liberal. Big difference, at least on many issues.
Certainly are some similarities, but some difference also.
I know the difference between libertarian, liberal, and conservative. I also know that there is a continuum of people in each of these philosophies.
