Pearl Jam popped into my head when I opened this thread. Had two tickets to see them last weekend at Wrigley Field but got rid of them. Decided I'd rather judge the chili cook off at the Iowa State Fair. They must not be one of my favorites I guess.

I listen(ed) to a ton of metal but it really belongs in a genre bucket. Not 1 really stands out but there's a lot in heavy rotation.
Same with female singers. Though, Stevie Nicks in her prime has a vocal quality that grabs my attention.
CCR
Chris Knight
For starters
-Yeah, no kidding.
Solo, I'm jealous. The music scene coming out of Jacksonville and the surrounding area is my favorite. To think Skynyrd, ABB and Petty all had the same geographic touchstone is remarkable, imo.
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Metallica
Disturbed
Audioslave
Soundgarden
Jethro Tull
Gary Moore
The Beatles
The Kinks
Frank Sinatra
Frank Zappa
Tom Paxton
The Doors
Linda Ronstadt
Jimi Hendrix
Rolling Stones
Note: After the first two, not in any real order.
Most folks get hooked on favorite songs and favorite groups based on what they liked as a teenager/twenty-something. That appears to be the case here as well.
Simpler times indeed.
Back then the performers would actually sing, not simply scream into a microphone to hide the fact they couldn't sing a lick.
Even better, there was no foul language, no references to women being 'Ho's' and no reference to violence.
I like the former and despise the latter.
The sound that these artist created with their instruments played to your senses that made you rock.
Zeppelin/Pink Floyd/Queen/Skynrd/Molly Hatchet...then ..and later... Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits probably the cleanest player of all time no where near the best band but those strings..whew!.
The reason and only reason I would ever listen to the Eagles was because the girls liked them. When the girls left ..bam...back to 93.3 WMMR and real sound...Tull, Zappa, Lee, Brian May, Jimmy Page.....musicians.
Now everything is about the light show and production because no one can PLAY anymore. At least not like the "killers".
The Rock
FraDiavolo's Link
I think that's true.
(Edited to remove trigger alert).
Here's one contemporary singer/songwriter I admire. I would recommend listening to a few of her songs, especially "Something" and "Rejoice." Kid sings her heart out.
Her name is Julien Baker.
Sorry, did not intend to sidetrack a good thread.
My apologies, Kyle.
