‘UNFAIR ADVANTAGE’: Clinton Campaign Trying to Get Moderators to Fact-Check Trump
The Hillary Clinton campaign is making a last-minute effort to influence how moderators handle the presidential debates.
The first debate Monday puts NBC News’ Lester Holt front and center as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton square off for the first time. Team Clinton wants Holt to intercede in the debate–and often.
“This is the role of the moderator … to call out those lies, and do it in real time,” Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri told reporters on a conference call. “To not do that is to give Donald Trump a very unfair advantage. Any candidate who tells this many lies clearly can’t win the debate on the merits.”
“His level of lying is unprecedented in American politics,” Palmieri said of Trump.
(continued)
I believe that Hillary will stand behind her little custom podium with at least a 5:1 advantage over lies...
Hillary does nothing BUT lie!!!
When Hillary Clinton takes the podium at Monday night’s first presidential debate, she could be staring down an old romantic rival sitting in the front row.
Gennifer Flowers, who carried on a 12-year affair with Bill Clinton when he was attorney general and governor of Arkansas, might attend the debate at Hofstra University as Trump’s guest, BuzzFeed reported Saturday.
“Ms. Flowers has agreed to join Donald at the debate,” her personal assistant, Judy Stell, wrote in an e-mail to BuzzFeed, according to the Web site.
The development grew from a Twitter broadside Trump launched earlier that day.
“If dopey Mark Cuban of failed Benefactor fame wants to sit in the front row, perhaps I will put Gennifer Flowers right alongside of him!” he tweeted.
It was a shot at Clinton’s decision to seat Cuban, a frequent Trump critic, in the front row as her debate guest, and a signal that the Republican nominee might dredge up past Clinton scandals as ammunition.
Trump goes for the jugular!!!
Both have said things I would agree with (though not for a long time from hilary), but they have also taken the opposite side on nearly every position.
Neither have a history of keeping their word and I do not expect it to change now.
Keeping his word my a$$. A traitor to his own family for $$$$$$$.

How many potty breaks will she take? And did the support team get the ear bud implanted in her ear deep enough or will her hair do, stay in place, to keep it covered over. Will she even show up? Be nice to have a predebate drug test to find out what they got her juiced up with. I am hoping she wouldn't finish the debate, take a medical! She had to get off the campaign trail to prep or more likely rest and get doctored up. Bet she regets agreeing to three debates.
They test boxers before a big fight, and I'm hoping this "fight" will be a good one.
Trump could win the debate simply by bluffing
Hillary Clinton is going to be armed with facts, logic and policy chops at tomorrow night’s debate.
It’ll be like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Unless Donald Trump has been hitting the briefing books and spending his evenings perusing back issues of National Affairs and The Economist — hey, the man has surprised us before! — it seems unlikely that he will have as many facts and details at his command as Clinton. And it doesn’t matter. Nobody comes out of a debate saying, “Wow, Senator Blutarsky had an impressively detailed answer on how to save 11 percent at the Department of Housing and Urban Development!”
Debates are about style, comportment, authority, the occasional zinger and the dreaded gaffe.
They’re about the direction of the country and who will steer us down the right path.
They’re about matching the emotional temperature of the voters. Now more than ever, they’re also about sizing up which candidate would be less unbearable to see on TV every night for the next four years.
So Trump could win a debate, or all of them, without getting unnecessarily acquainted with facts.
Factual command could even hurt Hillary, if she starts to sound like a lawyer-bureaucrat-weasel: Remember how everyone hated Al Gore when he droned on (though not during a debate) about how “no controlling legal authority” had forbidden him to make fundraising calls from the White House?
Trump may not have a lot of facts, but he has a lot of slick moves: He knows debate kung fu.
Monday night’s moderator, Lester Holt, like most journalists, probably lives in a media bubble, meaning he will be out to impress his friends and colleagues with tough, probing questions.
But his friends know far more about policy details than the median voter.
Moreover, the median voter doesn’t like to be reminded that he doesn’t know that much, and might well take Trump’s side if the questions are too picayune.
If Holt tries to catch Trump in a gotcha question like, “Mr. Trump, you say you have a plan to get the economy moving again but can you even estimate the size of the US economy within 2 trillion dollars?” Trump could easily win the exchange by turning the question into an attack on the current state of journalism: “You know what, Lester, that’s the kind of stupid question that is the reason why nobody trusts the media anymore. I’m not running for accountant in chief. I’m running for commander in chief. I’m a leader. I have a vision. And I have created tens of thousands of jobs building great things in this country, as opposed to Hillary Clinton, who has made herself rich by giving speeches to people who are buying access from her.”
‘Skilled debaters know that when you get a question you can’t answer or don’t want to answer, you swat it away and instead answer a question more to your liking.’
Skilled debaters know that when you get a question you can’t answer or don’t want to answer, you swat it away and instead answer a question more to your liking.
President Obama does this in virtually every news conference he’s ever given: “Look, here’s what’s going on here.” Or, “I’m going to be totally frank with you .?.?.” Or, “The problem nobody wants to talk about is .?.?.” Boom, pivot to your talking points.
If Holt takes the bad advice of Clinton advocates and argues with Trump, rather than letting the candidates argue with each other, it’ll mean cutting in on him. “Mr. Trump, the question was about—” “Mr. Trump, that isn’t what I asked.” “Mr. Trump, can we get back to the subject—” Interrupting Trump will be a mistake.
Whatever his failings may be, Trump is an alpha male, and Holt is a nerd. Nobody outside the media-political-progressive class likes to see nerds beat alphas. It’s contrary to the basic order of things.
All Trump has to do is raise his voice a little to make it clear who’s in charge: “Ex-CUSE me, Lester, are you going to let me finish?” Or, “Listen, I’m the candidate here. People want to hear what I have to say, not what you have to say, OK?”
Holt will look pathetic, Trump supporters will roar and middle-of-the-road voters will think, “The man’s a strong leader, no doubt about it.”
Debates are not intelligence tests. They’re not LSATs. They’re television shows, and one participant is the former star of one of the top-ten highest-rated programs in the land.
The other admitted to voters last Monday in Philadelphia that she has a problem presenting herself: “When it comes to public service,” Clinton said, “the service part has always been easier for me than the public part.”
If only the presidency operated in secrecy without the peons being allowed to watch, she’d be well suited to it.
That is not a slam against the candidates (who are both atrocious for many reasons), but against the voters who have largely given up actually paying attention to either character of the candidates or issues impacting the nation.
As I have stated elsewhere, we are given the choice of drinking sewer water or dying of dehydration.

The economy is #1 issue, and Trump know money and business.
He points out she is all talk and no action for an entire lifetime
I'm surprised the MSM hasn't declared her the winner yet.
All in all,Trump did OK. Looking for even better next go 'round
His strong ending was attacking her experience as BAD experience.
He let his temper get the best of him.
His sniffling, his facial ticks, She hit him on all of his weaknesses. especially the birther comment. He came across like an unprepared dolt.
His poll numbers will reflect it. no doubt.
Again and again, Holt asked Trump tough questions that were straight from the Clinton campaign’s talking points, and which were obvious set-ups for Clinton to attack (and for fact-checkers to pounce on whatever Trump asserted in his own defense).
Here are the five worst examples.
Tax returns. Holt never asked Clinton about her e-mail scandal, about Benghazi, or about the Clinton Foundation and its dubious dealings. But he did ask Trump about his tax returns, arguing — not asking — that there might be questionable information in them that the American public deserved to hear.
Birther conspiracy theory. Holt never asked Clinton about her past record of racist statements, including her “super-predator” remarks as First Lady, or her explicit appeal to “white Americans” in her 2008 primary campaign against Obama. Yet he asked Trump about the Birther conspiracy theory and cast it as racist.
Stop-and-frisk. After an exchange between the candidates over the policy of “stop-and-frisk,” Holt interjected to bolster Clinton’s point by stating, erroneously, that stop-and-frisk had ended in New York because it had been declared unconstitutional by a court. Trump countered, correctly, that the new mayor had canceled the policy before the litigation was over.
“A presidential look.” Towards the end of the debate, Holt asked Trump about what he meant by saying Hillary Clinton did not have “a presidential look.” He did so after noting that Clinton had become “the first woman” to be nominated for president by a major political party, thus setting Trump up as a sexist. As Trump answered, Holt interrupted him, then gave Clinton a chance to respond with her talking points about Trump’s past comments on women.
Iraq War. The question of whether Trump supported the Iraq War or not has been widely debated. What is beyond doubt is that Hillary Clinton voted for it. Holt only represented one side of the debate about Trump, and never asked Clinton about her own vote
It's already being spun that she won it, but all the polls show Trump kicking her old ass!
Look at the number of votes.
""Dissing Don"" never fails to deliver, even with complete hogwash. But then, who could expect different from a vote seller.
Many of my FB friends are strong trump supporters. I saw their enthusiasm fall in their posts as the debate unfolded. It doesn't mean anything except that they apparently thought trump was not doing so well.
Please keep letting thy nationalist Taqiyya keep slithering forth, yee will know them by their deeds.

was Hillary on her meds or off her meds?
The truth is that the winner of a debate cannot be known at the end of the debate. It is not the immediate impact, but the end result that determines the winner or loser of a debate.
Predictably, leftists in journalism and elsewhere say hilary won, trump nuts say trump won.
Is anyone really objective at this point?
She promised bringing 200,000 jobs to upstate NY as a senator and upstate lost jobs.
She knows all about hacking since everyone hacked her server in her basement.
My tax return is 8,000 pages long, I leave it up to my accountants and lawyers to prepare and they are advising me not to release them while it audit.
It is obvious he didn't prepare at all for the debate last night and chose to wing it. The only thing that helped him is that the bar was so low for him. Ted Cruz would have DESTROYED Hilary.
I just hope the American electorate is too stupid to realize how badly Trump blew it. And in the area of stupidity, the American electorate will seldom let you down.
I am sitting watching and waiting for all the ammunition he had at his disposal and he never really fired a rocket.
I don't know. Maybe he watched too much of the Reagan debates and figured his strategy would follow suit.
IMO that was a poor exhibtion when the table was so heavily tilted in your favor with a opponent with so much baggage to let her off the hook so easily.
If he does not learn anything from this debate he eventually will....when its too late.

Totally agree that will stick like glue.
Isn't it amazing that a billionaire can pay less taxes than someone earning a hundred grand per year? That's plain BS and needs to change.
Really, I'm a CPA and he is exactly right! If he is continually under audit and yet still pays zero tax, that makes him and his crew VERY smart! That means he has LEGALLY found a way to work the system. Excuse me, but what's wrong with that?
In tax class we are continually told it is our job to LEGALLY help our clients pay the lowest amount of tax possible. And every accountant I know does exactly that!
The economics is, the less he pays in taxes, which will be wasted by the gov't, the more money actually gets put back into the economy for use.
But here is something else to remember.... They are talking about Trump's personal return. What about the taxes all his corporations pay??? I seriously doubt they are all partnerships and S-corps which would flow to his personal return. I would assume many of them are good ole fashioned C-Corps which pay income tax at a higher and quicker rate than his 1040 return would. See folks this tax thing is all bullcrap and spin, PERIOD.
Next for you who think Hellarys plan of taxing the rich will work and is fair, do some research on what incomes pay the most in taxes! I'm sorry, I don't have the figures in front of me, but its something like the top 5% of income pays 80% of all taxes. Those numbers are probably WAY off put the gest is correct. So please explain at what point the rich pay their fair share!

Then the Donald, the ultimate capitalist and free market guy, pretty much agreed with her.. Then the Hildabeast put him on the defensive, and he pretty much stayed there all night.
Hillary was speaking clearly and Trump was stammering and stuttering and talking in circles the whole night. Every time Hillary left the door open, Trump just left it open and went off on rants about himself instead of slamming it on Clinton.
IMO, Trumps debate performance was weak and lame. And them I heard an interview with Omarosa Manigault, Trump's Director of African American Outreach.. She was on PBS's Frontline and she said......
“Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump. It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, who has ever disagreed, whoever’s challenged him. It’s the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe”. WHAT THE F#@K DOES THAT MEAN??
Those are the words of a dictator, or more precisely, those are the words of Satan, or at least a follower of Satan.. Bow down?? Nahh, I'll pass of that. I'll also pass on anyone who wants to crush their opponents and make them bow..
These aren't words coming from a "Never Trumper". These are words coming from a man who wants the Constitution follower.
Jay
So all you people who get aroused when you think of him being the President, how do you square that with the Constitution? How do you get on the no-fly list?? How do you get off of it? How do you get your Constitutional rights back, once the government decides to put you on the list?
I guess that once enough people get on the list, there will be nobody eligible to own guns, so then you will be able to be put on your knees if you didn't support him.
But take heart. If you are a Trump fanboy and have been from the start, maybe you will be the one to make people get on their knees. Wouldn't that be great??
Sorta funny. Ted Kennedy was on the no-fly list and it took him, a Senator over 6 months to get off it... How long will it take you to get off, being just a mere mortal?
Don't confuse never Hillary with Trump cam do no wrong. Trump is full of flaws but he is the only option at this point.
As far vas Fox news as of 5 minutes ago this debate will not move the needle one iota from Trump supporters or Clinton supporters, including independents.
So this would seem to confirm what I have been saying. "Anyone who thinks these debates matter to a large segment of the electorate is either naïve or just plain stupid".
That would be admitting you did not know your candidate until last night and the nights to follow, which is, well, plain stupidity for not knowing.

We're still over a month out from the election and its a known fact that low information voters have a VERY short attention span.
It could be that Trump is saving the hard stuff for the later debates so they will be closer to the election. Lets face it, if he used them all now and then used them again in the later debates, it would come across that he had nothing new and was just picking on her.....
IDK, just a thought....
Wait, what did you just say?
And she mentioned having to sit for 11 hrs under an FBI investigation....LOL...excuse me but that's credible?...good grief America....wake up.
A presidential candidate under FBI scrutiny...we've plum lost our minds.
All her ideas, agenda's ect...Is the same old political song and dance.
How's that been working?
Trump say's We can't afford to keep babysitting and footing the bill in these middle east country's especially considering they kinda hate us anyway.
Well hello...that sounds logical to me.
On the flip side Obama say's terrorist attacks? let's let a bunch more in this country.
Hillary say's we suffer from all kind of phobia's homophobia, muslimphobia....ect...ect..
Well some fruit loop who used to be whatever is checking out your butt in the mens bathroom...And the muslim terrorist are blowing up stuff and killing people...PHOBIAS?....well yea, good grief woman.
One reason would be that the difference in their vision for the future of America is very much the same. Any idiot like some here on this site would realize that, believing these debates are oh so important.
These debates are probably the most difficult of all to choose your candidate and their performance or lack their of. Their policies are so close it is difficult to really tell one from the other.
I think I require another debate or two to make up my mind. I must really reconfigure each candidate to make sure I am not making the same fuqn mistakes I have made all my life.

Down in the middle of the review linked:
"...One thing that has impressed me more and more over the past two years is how powerful the left is in colonizing the thoughts of all citizens -- including commentators on the right.
Andrew Breitbart used to say -- he said this the first time I met him -- that the left creates a "Matrix," as in the movie, a prison of illusion and reality distortion. When you are in the Matrix, he said excitedly, you can't see the Matrix itself.
Many commentators on the right -- I included -- are thoroughly colonized by leftist memes. How could we not be? We are constantly mesmerized by them, a thousand cult chants a day whispering at us from our electric soma boxes.
Many are looking at Hillary Clinton's answers and saying "She won on points."
Did she?
Because what did she really say? On national security and ISIS, she offered the novel thought that we must work more closely with our allies.
Really. You don't say? I'm glad someone had the guts to finally say it.
Now, those whose brains are colonized by leftist viral memes will call that a "good answer." It's the accepted Conventional Wisdom answer of the Davoisie and the Davoisie wannabes.
But is it a good answer?
Or is it just insect-talk? (Insect talk being my own word for something so trivial and brainless it doesn't even rise to the level of small-talk.)
Clinton said a lot of crap like this last night -- she said that to improve race relations, we needed to build more trust in the community in police, and more trust in police in the community.
Um, that is not an answer. That is simply a way of re-stating the problem. Her husband used to do this a lot. How do we improve education? Why I have a five-point plan. (Ticking off points on each finger.) One, improve the curriculum. Two, improve the administration. Three, improve teacher-school relations. Four, encourage children to learn. Five (now put up the thumb in a big thumb's up like Fonzie) improve education.
Um, you didn't say how we were going to improve education. You simply broke the problem into several sub-problems and said we have to solve each of the sub-problems.
We know that. And we also knew all of the sub-problems associated with the main problem of improving education.
You said exactly nothing, but took three minutes to say it.
Yet people were always impressed by this -- at least among the chattering classes -- and praised Clinton for being soooo detailed.
Hillary tried this last night with her various bubble-headed Unsweet Nothings responses.
She's not as good as it as her husband..."

It would have been game, set, match. Nothing else said at this debate by either candidate would have mattered.
Also pretty sure such things are used to wipe and flushed. He's either throwing the game, a mental case over his groupies, or just intellectually the laziest candidate in the history of the country. If Hillary were not so hated this would be a bad joke someone was playing.... Right now Bite Me would be mopping the floor with him. Maybe even The Bern....
I'm stuck between wishing with all my heart Hillary is beaten. And sad and sorry for a country that would even consider such as him for even an option..... it's like watching an 8th grade class president election.... the country has dumbed down to that.... little wonder MN is leaning his way with their record of celebrity fandom WRT politics. Sad to see that is now even a tactic.
If he isn't throwing this.... somebody sit him down and explain that he'd best listen to "the best people... the best!!!" And take that stupid ego OUT OF IT. This is about the COUNTRY.... not him.
A CNN/ORC poll released shortly after last night’s debate found that Hillary Clinton scored a clear victory over her rival Donald Trump. One problem – the survey sample included 41% Democrats compared to just 26% Republicans.
Asked, “Who do you think did the best job in the debate – Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?”, 62% of respondents said Hillary while 27% said Trump.
This immediately gave the impression that Hillary trounced Trump in the debate, and set the standard for the media narrative that it was a bad night for the Republican candidate.
However, 33% of the people surveyed in the poll identified as Independents, 41% identified as Democrats, while just 26% identified as Republicans.
The 2016 USC Dornsife / LA Times Presidential Election Poll represents a pioneering approach to tracking changes in Americans’ opinions throughout a campaign for the White House. Around 3000 respondents in our representative panel are asked questions on a regular basis on what they care about most in the election, and on their attitudes toward their preferred candidates. The “Daybreak poll” is updated just after midnight every day of the week.
