Does she get right back up and go back to the herd and start eating like nothing happened like cattle do?
I've branded a lot of cattle and by far what's more traumatic for them than the actual branding is being separated from the herd for that brief amount of time.
There's also the fact that cowhide is very thick compared to a human's or even a horse's. A horse is basically 1000 pounds of meat stuffed into a plastic bag. Cut that bag and the meat essentially SQUIRTS out.
You have to be VERY careful when you brand a horse. Even the branding iron is not a thick steel "iron" like for cattle, but almost like a wire. You just barely touch them with it enough to burn the hair and not much more.
Last I knew, cattle were branded with a freezing operation anymore. Hot branding was not used. Could be wrong, that was several years ago when I helped out on a dairy occasionally.
Most people I know still use the hot iron on cattle most of the time. Freeze branding is becoming more popular for horses around here though. South Dakota/NE Wyoming.
The cows in this video, though, are just naive and clueless idiots.
They should have put ear tags in them too. I mean cows all have ear tags. Those real strong rubber bands or a scalpel would handle the males, mentioned above. I have a cousin that takes care of about 400 cows and she could handle that job. She is delicate the way she talks about it too, last time I saw her she told me she was cutting off balls in the morning.
