Thanks Shuteye. She was something! I enjoyed her singing as a youth and later in life saw her interviewed a few times. She always came across as not only talented, but having a no nonsense, “tell it like it is” tough and “deal with it” feisty personality. All probably attributes sorely needed or required for an early “50’s” female country artist. RIP Jean, you were special.

Hank Thompson helped her get started when she was 14 years old. Most will remember Hank Thompson's "A Dear John's letter." She was the female singing as John did the speaking part.

It's a small world. Jean was married to Hawkshaw Hawkins when he was killed an a plane crash. My fishing buddy's father was in Hawkshaws band but wasn't on the plane.
