Yesterday in a special session, the Nevada legislature approved a bond package to build an NFL football stadium in Las Vegas.
Hello, Raiders!

Vegas Raider has a nice ring to it...

The funding comes from an increase in Las Vegas room taxes along with considerable private funding. UNLV will play in the new stadium as well as whatever NFL team that ends up there, which will probably be the Raiders.

The Raiders and Vegas just need to have 3/4 of the NFL owners sign off on it. That could be difficult because Kroeneke (Owner of the Rams) is against because he could lose gate $$ as Vegas is only a two hour trip for fans in Los Angeles. Kroeneke and Jones (Dallas) are the two richest and most powerful owners and hold a lot of sway.

Didn't the NFL, earlier this year, vote to allow a franchise in Las Vegas?

I heard on a sports talk radio that the major hurdles were the state politicians signing off on it and getting the majority of the owners to bless it. I know the locals were going bat-$hit crazy about that huge NASCAR complex going in but that has paid for itself a couple of times. I think once people see what kind of revenue a superbowl would bring in, they may rethink their reticence.

I remember when they were trying to get a baseball team in Denver. They solicited name suggestions from the public. One guy said that they should be called the Leeches because they were sucking money from the entire state to build the stadium in Denver. I agreed! Let the owners find financing and build the stadiums (stadia?).

The bonds the state's floating will be paid for from an increase in the hotel tax in Las Vegas. So the taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook for a dime.

That breakfast buffet at the the Bellagio is AMAZING though. After a night of NFR partying in December it’s the first step in recovery for another day.

I can't think of much less interesting than more hotels in Vegas and more humans lined up at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Actually creeps me out. That stated, there is no better franchise fit for Vegas than the Raiders. Well, maybe, the Patriots.

I will never support another public dime for a stadium to make team owners and players rich.

I'm not even sure it's the fans demanding such stadiums (stadiui?) Most I know would go sit on a wooden bleacher and would be OK, especially if the price were commensurate. But certainly the businesses in the area are all for it, from hotels and restaurants to airlines, etc. And BIG business that buy up the luxury boxes to stuff with execs and customers really like them.
As usual.... stuff, no matter how you perfume it up..... still flows downhill.....
