I say If it's an MMA type fight Conor is the Man, if it's boxing only I say Mayweather. Thoughts?

Why hobble the skills and negate the strengths of one fighter and not the other. That would not be fair. Its a fight. Last man standing. Mayweather trains strictly boxing and has his entire life. BTW...Connor McGregor is over-rated and would not even make the list and would probably get beat by the number 5 contender. I could easily place at least 10 other MMA fighters, some known some unknown in his place who would make a mockery of Floyd Mayweather. Styles make fights and a Donald Cerrone, a stand up MMA fighter would knock his a$$ out and into next week within 1 round without taking him to the ground. I am talking KO and a doctor. No joking. If anyone would pay to watch a MMA vs. a boxer they must have money to burn. ;-)

Common sense should dictate that answer.
We shall see...maybe.

Holly Mims knocked out Rousey with a round kick to the head. That is how bad it will get for a boxer if they fight MMA rules. I would love to see a boxer, any boxer at any weight go in with Cowboy Don Cerrone. Cowboy weighs 172 lbs. and will put any boxers lights out pronto with a leg kick/ head switch kick and he will land it. MMA takes your legs out and a boxer with out leg movement is a punching bag. Good night.

As a Judoka, Rousey is the top of the heap, but when it comes to strikes and kicks she just doesn't have the skills. She had her day, but now there's some new, dangerous blood in her weight class, and her judo skills just won't get the job done anymore.
I'd love to see Mayweather (or any boxer) beat the snot out of McGregor simply because the dude's such a schmuck.

Cerrone has gone on a tear since moving to welterweight. He's taking chins from guys that have never been ko'd. Cerrone is better than McGregor everywhere but he wouldn't have a chance boxing Mayweather. Floyd would die facing him in an MMA match though.
Donald lives about 8 miles from me and I see him in his Dodge dually once in awhile, even saw him at Walmart once.
Your right . I was thinking of Holly Mimms the boxer from years ago. At any rate it was the high kick that took out Rousey and that is just one indication of what a MMA fighter brings to the fight. A boxer fighting under the Queens rules always has the advantage but a fight is a fight IMO and Cerrone would clean his and any other boxers clock. I seen him knock out Matt Brown and I mean O U T. BTW ..he is my grandsons favorite UFC fighter.

Cro Cop was almost past his prime when the UFC took over Strikeforce and Pride, and he fought for years in Japan, fighting guys like Dan Severn going way back. I miss watching guys like him, Forrest Griffin and others. Tito's over a Bellator along with a few other former UFC fighters, but he's far past his prime. He'll be fighting Chael Sonnen next weekend.

You are correct. The time was open and unlimited. Last man standing.

I think the fans will be the biggest losers. It will be sloppy and a lot of holding.
Let them fight with all their might and no one would care less.

The one notable thing that everyone who analyzes McGregor except apparently you, is how accurate his punches are and the power in his strikes. You must be watching a different fighter than the one others are watching.
I will go out on a limb and say I have watched and attended more matches in MMA again going back when there was no time limits, AND boxing then most people. Not all but most. My cousin was a assistant trainer for Dwight Braxton aka Dwight Muhammed Qwai and Mathew Franklin aka Mathew Saad Muhammed both World Champions from Philly. We would go over to Glenwood Ave. and watch Joe Frazier train on a regular basis and he was a good man. I believe from my experience I can grade talent in each sport not to say that you can not. Most notable professionals unattached to Connor McGregor say he is a paper tiger including myself. They stand up under the Queens rules and I am in that Mayweather knocks him out in 2 rounds and he can't break an egg. The are at least 25 fighters in MMA in 3 different weight divisions 2 of them lighter who would take Mayweather apart. McGregor would not make the top 25 list IMO. That is my opinion. Donald Cerrone and most every MMA fighter will tell you the same thing. McGregor is a scared little child who has become the UFC golden boy weaving his way to the top.
Look it up and see for yourself.

UFC commentators work for the UFC and they are there to promote fights and the golden boy McGregor. Conor does have MMA skills but he gets an easier path because his mouth sells ppv's.
YES YES YES... It is very difficult to "unlearn" that to which you were trained. I have been in the martial arts for along time. Something that I have learned though teaching and practicing, is that you perform to how you are trained
In sport karate, its all about show and flash- very little practical applications. For instance twirling a bow staff over your head looks cool but in real life is useless. I have seen champion sport karate folks get their ass handed to them in street fights. Why? They practice against imaginary opponents, they leave themselves open, and in real life opponents hit for real. Real life is not a sport. There are no rules, judges, points or referees. The last man standing wins.
What does this have to do with McGregor v Mayweather??
Both will resort to doing what they are trained to do. Can McGregor box.... not as well as Mayweather and thus he is at a disadvantage. And Mayweather? How is his take down defense and defense when on the ground? Likely not very effective. The rules will determine the "winner" here not the athlete.
The viewers of this charade, and that is what it is, are suckers. This is no different than a circus side show designed to take your money. The winners are Dana White and whoever is promoting Mayweather . STAY AWAY
I guess you know. What can I say? That is your opinion.

BSBD,
Correct with the little I know of pugilism. Footwork and foot speed is always a advantage. McGregor is a off balance chin leading fighter which is a cardinal sin in boxing. You can get away with that style in MMA and as a matter of fact being proficient in off balance attacks is a advantage....but again what do I know when we have commentators to tell us. ;-)
The Rock
Rocky it seems to me we are mostly in agreement except for the concept that Macgregor isn't as good as his record shows. "Donald Cerrone and most every MMA fighter will tell you the same thing. McGregor is a scared little child who has become the UFC golden boy weaving his way to the top." I get that, most every MMA fighter that has not fought him say this very thing, even the ones who have fought him said the same thing, Most all of them quickly ended up on the deck looking up trying to remember how they got there. The only one in the UFC that didn't end up that way was Nate and that was primarily because he has a head like an anvil. I have always been against Mcgegor in his fights but to say he doesn't belong where he is, is folly. You know, you kind of sound like a guy who came on here once and argued that Wayne Gretzky wasn't as good as his record shows.
