Finally after over a year of waiting I finally got my Griffon. Even though the breeder picked her like I stated in a previous thread I couldn't be happier. She's so damn cute and so far a good personality.

Spike, That is a good looking pup. We worked with a breeder for our English lab puppy for quite some time. She also picked our dog for us. That said three years later we Could not be happier with her choice in personality for our family. There is a reason dog is mans best friend. Here is my buddy on a drive to town one day. He was still a pup.

Spike 78, great choice. I love griffons, having had a spinone (Italian griffon) for 14 years, and getting another in May. Griffons are especially well suited to the Northeast for hunting upland or waterfowl. Best of luck with your pup; looks like a good one.

My best dog came from a breeder that matched dogs personality traits to what we were looking for as well. I can't say enough good things about Deep Run Farms in Virginia.

Best of luck with your pup spike78, they are hard headed, at least the one I had was... Learned a long time ago about dogs, its all about bloodlines, but the one I had was a registered Griffon, although was given to me as an adult (actually kinda saved the dog), and the only thing I could say about him was he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, although sadly I think the previous owner had ruined him... Had I got him as a pup, may have been different... Take you time and be patient with her...

Mine is a GWP, not a WPG, but I bet they share a lot of the same genes. Been thinking a lot about getting a Spinone next, if I have the energy for another pup. Bluetick, do you know of a breeder in the area (I'm in CT)?

Spike, you'll have a blast with your dog. One of my hunting buddies runs Drahthaar's which are similar. The one he has is slowing down and he bought another, but he won't have it for about a month or so. His breeder recommended a book for him to do the training called "Drahthaar Puppy Manual", despite the name it will work for any pointer. If you do any waterfowl hunting try to teach her hand signals if you can. "water dog" by Richard Wolters is a great resource; it was written for labs, but the concept should be the same. Get a shock collar; they really help keep the dogs safe and you don't need to use a heavy hand for training (sometimes training dogs gets pretty frustrating).
Here's a photo of our current Drahthaar with her murder death kill.
I personally do very little upland hunting and have always ran labs.
