Hi; does anyone know if lyme disese can be cured?
Yes, and no. The best plan is prevention.
Definitely not, however, early treatment and the individuals personal attitude about life determines living with it. Ex. I have friends with it who were tough.s.o.b.s before and after and live with it with no noticeable effects. The whiney, cayoodlers.....they complain irrespective. Mad Dog
heard that early detection is curable, not positive though
prayers to the ones afflicted
Lyme disease is an infection, and is completely curable with antibiotics in most cases.

I had it and my wrist swelled up so bad I was having trouble playing bass guitar in a band. A nurse practitioner took a blood sample and gave me a prescription. She said to start taking it right away and it would take five days to get the results back from the test. If the test was to come back positive for Lyme I should take all the medicine for 21 days. If negative she would call me and I could throw out the medicine.
The results came back positive and I took the prescription until it was gone. My wrist swelling went down in a few days and I was back to normal. I have been checked a couple times since then and the results came back negative. The nurse told me that there is always a possibility it could come back. The best thing was the prescription was very inexpensive. A Bowsite man from NJ had Lyme disease the exact same time as me and we both were taking the same prescription, at the same time. I think it worked for him also but I haven't seen him in years.

It's Extremely Dangerous! I have an old friend who's wife got it at 30 years old. She waited a very long time to get treatment, and then they miss-diagnosed it. She passed away at 40 years old. Don't mess around, get proper care and follow the doctors orders no matter what!
God Bless and prayers your way!

It was curable for me. I had lymes for over a year before I was properly diagnosed. I was put on 3 antibiotics for over a year. I was lymes free in about 6 months but the doctor had me continue treatment for another 6 months so there wasn't a reoccurrence. My understanding at the time 1990 was that since I had the disease so long that it gets under your brain mass and in your spinal cord once you have it long enough. Therefore I needed to take 3 antibiotics and have a blood test every other month. The treatment worked I have not had any reoccurrences or symptoms since 1991.
Interesting timing. Article was in Sunday Freep.
Two things about Lyme to assist in the normally confused BEcroc:
1. Discovered early and treated, Lyme is treatable with usually NO lingering effects. The best way is to prevent before, examine oneself, and seek treatment if bitten by a tick as soon as possible.
2. Untreated (or treated after the tick has infected someone), Lyme disease can be very disabling. It is important to learn to recognize early signs of infection.
While this article deals with the spread in Michigan, there is a lot of good information about both ticks and Lyme disease.

Sorry...I just had to post this one:
I spray all my hunting clothes and packs with permethrin, particularly my spring turkey hunting gear. Since I started doing this about 2 years ago I haven't had a single tick bite. The treatment is odorless and if done correctly will last the season before needing to be reapplied. Withstands several washings too.
My neighbor has chronic lyme. He complains of joint stiffness and constant body pain.
Of course I complain of the same, but my pain and stiffness is arthritis related according to the doctors...8^)
Another friend of mine went through about 6 months or more of antibiotics to get rid of it...
"seek treatment if bitten by a tick as soon as possible."
I have been bit by hundreds of ticks.....just get them off you as soon as possible. the odds of getting lyme disease is very small where I live. My doctor feels that the vast majority of the time they treat people who don't even really have it to keep them from cry babying about it.
