Here's a screech owl I caught roosting this morning.
Probably only cool to me, but it's hard to beat a child's first deer.

KPC. Glad they like the great outdoors. Too many kids have no idea what they are missing.
Sad to say that college has gotten in the way for the last few years, but hopefully when she has more time, she will resume.
Last time we hunting together was opening day of firearms season, 2013.

Piebald squirrel I saw near Eureka Springs, AR a couple weeks ago.
I was deer hunting when I took this picture. It is difficult to get a picture of a turkey that is walking by without spooking them. At least for me it is.
Bird pinning a snake. Got the idea from this picture
Sand dunes in the ocean near the Bahamas. I took this photo out the window of a commercial airplane with my Iphone flying from Trinidad to Miami.
Carrie and her girls...young moose in her backyard. Mom is 5 feet behind the photographer (Jason) also laying down enjoying the sun. Both moose and deer look in the window to watch Carrie paint on a regular basis.

Carrie has live models. I told my cousin Debbie she has to catch up with Carrie the next time she heads out that way. Debbie's husband has been undergoing chemo for a while now so her travelling has been brought to a halt for a while. Normally she would be out there to see the new bear cubs.
I can't think of anything cooler than this.........

F4 tornado near Alden, MN. I was on an overpass about 4 miles west of the tornado when I took the photo.
That's about 4 miles closer than I'd be Doc! I'll take our floods over tornadoes any day.

Carrie on their yearly tour to Churchill, Manitoba to photograph polar bears. This fox stole a lens cover from another photographer and walked away with it.
Carrie and Jason have posted a video of a fox hunting in the Jackson area on Facebook. Look her up (Carrie Wild) or Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris...pretty cool.
Tony, that looks like GORH at Greg's place. Those were very enjoyable hunts.
Hackbow,
Yes it was, that was the last GORH that I attended.

One of the most dangerous jobs in the USA. Check out the tool belt. Once you get up in the air you don't want to come down. He was up 60 feet at one point. He also climbs trees if they can't get the bucket truck in close enough.
Once everything is on the ground you grind the stump.

Being a road warrior salesman, I appreciate times when I can just pull off the road in the middle of somewhere in nowhere, between Iowa and Minnesota in the middle of winter and witness something known as "sun dogs"...

Did it hit a window, or was it an exhausted migrant?
Not sure of its migrant status Henry, but it wasn't dazed from hitting a window. Son said the bird kept flitting around him while he was mulching so he stopped and held his hand out. He was shocked when it landed on his finger. It stayed for only 20-30 seconds then flew off.
Stairs, before and after.
Stairs, before and after.
My Wife wanted Wrought Iron Ballasters, and to pull the carpet off the stairs and finish the wood. . . .
. .
Unfortunately, when the house was built, the stairs were just thrown together. So I had to rip out all the risers and treads, because some were cracked, and as usual with new home construction, there wasn't a square board in the bunch.
The new risers are painted pine, but I purchased one inch thick Red Oak Treads, stained them, and finished them with satin polyurethane.
I had to number each riser and tread, and custom fit each one. For instance, the back of a tread would measure 34" & 3/16, and the front would be 34" & 3/4. It was very time consuming, custom fitting each plank.
Me and the Missus were pleased. I think I didn't do too bad for a Hillbilly !!
Took me three weekends, and some days during the week.
Wow, Tony! You and your wife are one heckava team...... And I hear ya on the crooked tread cuts. And then they have the gall to charge us extra for their Carpetgate cover-up scam.....
Neat experience, Hackbow!
Hackbow, good thing you kept you dog in the boat. My friends told me there were about 100 yards from their coon hounds when they heard the ruckus. The dogs were running a coon but it must have crossed the stream. They got to the stream just in time to see the otter had drowned a large hound. The otter got away and they said it wasn't the first time this had happened.
The Navy presenting my aunt with the flag that had covered my uncles casket. Great service and taps brought tears to my eyes. We all smiled when taps was being played some jets came over and it wasn't part of the service but it sure was good timing.
Who's the guy next to her, I'm almost the splitting image of him...

A friend got lucky turkey hunting this morning. Killed it right across the road from my house. It weighed 22 pounds. He won't be dusting in my garden anymore but his girl friends will.

Feeding the neighbor's cats this morning and saw these two geese out grazing on some clover. They are nesting in a pond right there and will soon have their new family with them .

Hackbow - That squirrel photo posted on May 3rd looks like some color phase of fox squirrel... Can I ask what state?
That piebald squirrel posted on April 9th from Arkansas is a grey squirrel... That's a pretty cool color, haven't seen one of that color, although we have different color phases of greys around here, will post a few photos when a chance...
Hey Tony Phillips - Curious where that whitetail rack and skull came from, surprised that hasn't made a magazine cover...8^)
Here is a jet black (melanistic) color phased eastern grey squirrel... Very common around here...
Here is a charcoal colored one, with a normal grey's tail in the foreground...
Here is a couple different shads of the melanistic phase, the one on right has brown or rust colored hairs...
Another charcoal and normal colored grey...
Years ago I had an uncle that lived on Kent Island Maryland. The squirrels in his yard were jet black. It was said it was from inbreeding. They were big and really pretty. He caught two in a live trap and brought them to my father. My father kept them in a cage in the back yard next to a feeder for a couple weeks. Then he opened the door on the cage. They hung around for two or three years. I had a feeder near a ground blind in the woods nearby. They would come to my feeder and the grey squirrels didn't like it one bit. They finally disappeared. They never did breed with the grey squirrels. I wondered if someone driving by shot them.
Those black squirrels (again, melanistic) are likely eastern grey squirrels, same species, and color due to genetics and not due to interbreeding... As seen above, they can come in a variety of different colors and have even seen them with jet black bodies with rust tails and visa versa, some with different colored saddles, and about every shad in between, some are very unique... Have yet to see a pure white around here though...
Strange thing though, in my local area I'm guessing they're about 60 - 70% black, maybe 20 - 30% normal grey colored (white bellies and all) and probably around 10% of these unique colors in between, but the strange thing is 5 or so miles either direction I don't see these unique colors, they are either jet black, or normal colored greys... Its genetics...
Not really pretty and his is ticked off since I interrupted his road kill coon breakfast.
Today - Jet black body, rust tail...
Zbone - the black and orange squirrel is in Texas, about 30 miles east of Dallas. Pretty sure it's a fox squirrel. I'm hoping to get a better picture. The piebald grey is definitely the coolest I've seen. Thanks for sharing all the different color phases you get to see.
Darn deer on the edge of my garden. They eat my sweet potatoes and asparagus. I have to run them off. In the winter I put them in the freezer. This picture was taken 15 minutes ago.
Zbone,
Sorry I haven't been back to this post for a while. The deer was found dead on a friends property close to Chillicothe.
Not sure where that picture came from, not mine.
Cool black squirrel photos Zbone.
Here's a couple of pics of a piebald grey squirrel that was coming to our birdfeeder in the backyard for a few weeks, but we haven't seen it for quite a while. I figured it would do okay because it was far more wary and quicker than all of the normal freeloaders.
Hey JD...... If you can see the sunrise over Lake Michigan...... Then you're on the wrong side of Lake Michigan !!!! Ha !!!! Just kidding....... We see sunsets over Lake Michigan....

Got a series of good game cam pics from one of my plots - Everyone asks , "where's the rest!!" and well there aren't any so you just have to put the fight and results in your mind. Like to hear how you think it turned out?
Cool pic elkmtngear. I had the pleasure of being stalked by a mountain lion while hunting turkeys in the Black Hills. Hair raising experience! Wish I would have had a camera with me.
Pig Doc, Was able to get this one, thanks to the miracle of cell phones.
This was my second close encounter, I was bowhunting/ calling elk in Colorado. Turned around and the cat was crouched about 15 feet behind me (big Tom)!
No pics that time, I actually drew my bow on him, and he flipped around and walked off.
Walking back in the dark that evening was a little unnerving...
California White Mountain Bighorns.
This owl was in my driveway.
This is an adult Broadhead Skink. they love it around my koi pond. This one is about a foot long. The young will have a bright blue tail and stripes. We see them every day on the rocks around the pond and this one is an adult male. When it is cool in the morning they come out and lay on the rocks in the sun.
It is not easy to center a galloping skunk. I watched it catching bugs and finally hollered at it to hold it's head up. Got this picture as it was running across my driveway.

Nice pictures, they worth the travel novel, really inspiring. Actually, I always have problems with writing, especially at school. Good for me that for last 2 years I've found a good resource to solve my problem. At http://essayshark.com/ you'll find a personalized writing assistance from best writers to help with your essay like I do.

Critters in my garden and my wife's flower garden. That first bunny is smelling the clover. He thought it smelled good enough to eat so he did. The second bunny is a mother and has babies in my wife's raised bed flower garden. She keeps them spotless but let some grass grow in this one since this is the second batch of baby rabbits in there this year. My wife can spot a rabbit nest like a pro. I spray my garden with Deer and rabbit repellent and it keeps the critters from eating it.
Here is one of those rust/brown colored melanistic grey squirrels on the back deck the other day...
This one taken a few years ago... Notice he has a melanistic black body (sorta like a silver fox), with grey tipped guard hairs, but a rust colored tail...
