Stairs, before and after.
My Wife wanted Wrought Iron Ballasters, and to pull the carpet off the stairs and finish the wood. . . .

. .

Unfortunately, when the house was built, the stairs were just thrown together. So I had to rip out all the risers and treads, because some were cracked, and as usual with new home construction, there wasn't a square board in the bunch.

The new risers are painted pine, but I purchased one inch thick Red Oak Treads, stained them, and finished them with satin polyurethane.

I had to number each riser and tread, and custom fit each one. For instance, the back of a tread would measure 34" & 3/16, and the front would be 34" & 3/4. It was very time consuming, custom fitting each plank.

Me and the Missus were pleased. I think I didn't do too bad for a Hillbilly !!

Took me three weekends, and some days during the week.

Hackbow, good thing you kept you dog in the boat. My friends told me there were about 100 yards from their coon hounds when they heard the ruckus. The dogs were running a coon but it must have crossed the stream. They got to the stream just in time to see the otter had drowned a large hound. The otter got away and they said it wasn't the first time this had happened.

Hackbow - That squirrel photo posted on May 3rd looks like some color phase of fox squirrel... Can I ask what state?

That piebald squirrel posted on April 9th from Arkansas is a grey squirrel... That's a pretty cool color, haven't seen one of that color, although we have different color phases of greys around here, will post a few photos when a chance...

Years ago I had an uncle that lived on Kent Island Maryland. The squirrels in his yard were jet black. It was said it was from inbreeding. They were big and really pretty. He caught two in a live trap and brought them to my father. My father kept them in a cage in the back yard next to a feeder for a couple weeks. Then he opened the door on the cage. They hung around for two or three years. I had a feeder near a ground blind in the woods nearby. They would come to my feeder and the grey squirrels didn't like it one bit. They finally disappeared. They never did breed with the grey squirrels. I wondered if someone driving by shot them.

From: Zbone
07-May-17
Those black squirrels (again, melanistic) are likely eastern grey squirrels, same species, and color due to genetics and not due to interbreeding... As seen above, they can come in a variety of different colors and have even seen them with jet black bodies with rust tails and visa versa, some with different colored saddles, and about every shad in between, some are very unique... Have yet to see a pure white around here though...

Strange thing though, in my local area I'm guessing they're about 60 - 70% black, maybe 20 - 30% normal grey colored (white bellies and all) and probably around 10% of these unique colors in between, but the strange thing is 5 or so miles either direction I don't see these unique colors, they are either jet black, or normal colored greys... Its genetics...

Here's a couple of pics of a piebald grey squirrel that was coming to our birdfeeder in the backyard for a few weeks, but we haven't seen it for quite a while. I figured it would do okay because it was far more wary and quicker than all of the normal freeloaders.

How to cut trees in a hurry. Have to take the limbs off with a Husky though. When you get hot you can climb back in the Air conditioned cab of the cat.

Got a series of good game cam pics from one of my plots - Everyone asks , "where's the rest!!" and well there aren't any so you just have to put the fight and results in your mind. Like to hear how you think it turned out?

Pig Doc, Was able to get this one, thanks to the miracle of cell phones.

This was my second close encounter, I was bowhunting/ calling elk in Colorado. Turned around and the cat was crouched about 15 feet behind me (big Tom)!

No pics that time, I actually drew my bow on him, and he flipped around and walked off.

Walking back in the dark that evening was a little unnerving...

This is an adult Broadhead Skink. they love it around my koi pond. This one is about a foot long. The young will have a bright blue tail and stripes. We see them every day on the rocks around the pond and this one is an adult male. When it is cool in the morning they come out and lay on the rocks in the sun.

It is not easy to center a galloping skunk. I watched it catching bugs and finally hollered at it to hold it's head up. Got this picture as it was running across my driveway.

Mother bunny.
Critters in my garden and my wife's flower garden. That first bunny is smelling the clover. He thought it smelled good enough to eat so he did. The second bunny is a mother and has babies in my wife's raised bed flower garden. She keeps them spotless but let some grass grow in this one since this is the second batch of baby rabbits in there this year. My wife can spot a rabbit nest like a pro. I spray my garden with Deer and rabbit repellent and it keeps the critters from eating it.

I spent some of November and practically all of December in the Falkland Islands, working.

….. . . . . . .

. . . . .

First time since 1990 that I did not kill a deer.

Strange place, and very remote, the Falklands are. Landscape reminds me of the northern Nevada desert.

Yea, Will, it is an amazing place.

.. . . ..

.. . .. .

They call it the gateway to Antartica.

There are no native trees.

The wind blows 30 to 40 MPH minimum most of the time.

The natural resources, with the exception of the fishery, are not utilized.

Lots of sheep, and a few cattle on the East Island. I never made it over to the West Island.

3000 residents, 2000 of which reside in Stanley.

A very isolated place indeed. Mostly the high temp of the day was 50 while I was there. It is their summer. Lows in the 30's and 40's at night.
