As always, they reversed the three faux charges that hit my card, cancelled the old card and before noon this morning, a replacement card arrived via FedEx.
Nothing new with that, but what is new, at least to me, is that the new card:
Is metal, not plastic.
Has no embossed anything, including my name and card number.
The card number is printed, not embossed, on the back of the card, not the front, and;
It's 'chip only,' although it appears there is a 'strip' as well.
This is the first time I've seen any of the above. Have any of you guys seen this with other cards?
Glad you caught your issue.
Since the internet came along, if they see a charge that's even remotely suspicious, they contact me by both phone and e-mail within a few hours.
Now that they are adding 'Centurian Lounges' in some major airports, I like AmEx even more. In these lounges, unlike the airline lounges, even premium wines and drinks are at no extra charge and the food has a much greater variety and much better quality than do the airline lounges.
If you travel and have layovers of a couple of hours or more, lounges are more than worth the price.
The latter are chip-ready so it's unlikely I'll run into a problem.
Every single one of them!
I agree, they are very quick about notifying you of anything suspicious. Usually just takes an affirmative reply to the email, a resubmit of the charge and I'm on my way in a few seconds. I had to do that last year in Durango when I bought my OTC elk tag. I drove out there and put everything on the card-gas, meals, hotel, etc., but buying the tag triggered it due to the larger $ amount. I just waited a few seconds for the email, replied and it went right through. They had a sign at the register telling people to be prepared to have their tag purchase rejected and to verify with their CC company.
This is the first time my debit card has ever been compromised. My wife has had hers compromised a few times.
I am traveling to Colorado next weekend. I have notified my bank that I am traveling and plan to notify amex of the same.
