"The truth is, whether Republican or Democrat, our presidents are contacting these families in their darkest hour. There's no doubt some of the communications will be misconstrued, bungled, and awkward, while others will be comforting and reassuring.
We all need to take a step back — regardless of politics — and be thankful for the families who have sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy in the United States. Sometimes, more than anything, all a Gold Star family wants and needs is for someone to listen."

I agree Henry and thank you for caring about this topic. I meet and have become friends with many "gold star" parents in my volunteer job as we are all working for the same causes. I'm getting better at controlling my emotions around them....but I have come pretty close to breaking down and crying like a baby. I have even had some of the parents trying to make me feel better.....and that's tough to live with right there and has helped train me not to go there in my head when I meet them. The gold star family's that I know don't want anything from anyone except the one thing they can't have.....their son back.
