Bad cover of Duran Durang - that's saying a lot right there.
Back to the spirit of this thread - gotta love old school football. Back when it was just about football, playing the game, hard hits. Thanks for posting.
I played in the 80s. We were taught to tackle with our shoulders but lead with our heads. At the time, it was fun but, looking back, it's just retarded to repeatedly weaponize one's cranium at a full sprint.
Butkus was a friggin' tank, Plank was like a bullet out of a .222. The way he hit in those clips was the norm for him. Even if the Bears lost then it was still fun to watch as Plank laid out receivers at full speed. And God help them if the went across the middle!!
And don't forget that the other DE that played with him was Gary Fencik, a weapon in his own right. "Da Bears" had one hell of a defence under Buddy Ryan then.
I remember the "Fridge" William Perry getting in as a runner and scoring a touchdown... I remember that chapped the Bears fans a little because they didn't give it to Walter Payton to score......
Yeah, I saw that too. Based on that I'm surprised that Plank is still functional. I guess it affects different people different ways, because Plank definitely lead with his head.
I remember Mike Utley for the Lions being carted off the field in 1991 in the Pontiac Silverdome..... He was paralyzed from the waist down after the play.... a hit on the top of his helmet that looked relatively mild as far as violent hits go..... He remains paralyzed today.....
One of the scariest hits in the history of the NFL.... "Turkey Jones' greatest sack"...
If you Google that you'll see Jones' 1976 sack of Terry Bradshaw....... I have no idea how Bradshaw didn't end up in a wheelchair after being dumped on his head like that.....
How many lbs. does he give up to Okoye? Atwater is special. Still, the greatest Bronco to ever line up on D is Randy Gradishar(so far, anyway). HOF 1st ballot, IMO. Don't know why he is not in.
Butkus, Nitschke, Mike mad dog Curtis, Jack Lambert, LT, Lyle Alzado, Larry Czonka, Earl Cambell, Jim Taylor, John Riggins...When The NFL was at its apogee. Mad Dog
Don't forget though that Alzado and Conrad Dobler were seen as dirty players.....
Suh would fit right in with those old time mean dirty players.... But in today's game where there are 20 different camera angles and instant replays..... It doesn't go over very well when Suh stomps on a guys head or arm when they're on the ground..... ha !!
Big Bear.. Lyle Alzado was no meaner or nastier than Butkus, Nitschke, Curtis or Lambert. They werent dirty either. Dobler WAS dirty. Please don't insult a great man and player. Have you watched the full documentary on him? They ALL took steroids. He was honest about it. He's a local boy done good. You can't say anything bad about him to me! #77 Lawrence H.S. Mad dog
No offense intended... I Googled dirtiest NFL players ever and Alzado came in at #10 two spots ahead of Butkus.... Suh is listed as the dirtiest player ever...
Didn't Alzado hit a guy using his helmet as a club? And that is just one incident. Playing after the whistle, throwing punches, etc. Alzado was, without a doubt, a "dirty player." And that's coming from a guy who has defended Suh often. lol
Fair enough big bear. Yeah he threw his helmet at NY Jet, Chris Ward. ANOTHER game he ripped off wards helmet. They had a fued going. Ward WAS A DIRTY PLAYER AND TALKED ALOT OF SHIT. I never saw Alzado kick anyone while they were down or anything. He just played like a beast...yes..like Butkus. Anyone who has played Defense will understand. Dobler had nowhere near the talent of Alzado, but thats what got him through. Mad Dog
