A high school student in Utah left a backpack containing a homemade bomb in the lunch area of the Pine View High School in Saint George. Students who saw the backpack smoking alerted school officials, who called the police.
The school was evacuated and the student was later arrested.
“After examining the device, bomb squad members indicted that if it had detonated, the device had the potential to cause significant injury or death,” read a statement by the police.
“A warrant was served on the residence of that juvenile and items were located that were consistent with the materials used to build the device placed at Pine View. Based on our investigation we can confirm this was a failed attempt to detonate a homemade explosive at the school,” police wrote in a statement.
“It was also determined that the male had been researching information and expressing interest in ISIS and promoting the organization.”
Police believe the suspect, who is male but cannot be named because of his age, is the same person who spray painted graffiti at Hurricane High School (18 miles away in Hurricane, Utah) in mid-February.
In that incident, the high school’s American flag was replaced by what looked like an ISIS flag and the words “ISIS is COMI” were spray-painted on the wall of the school.
At the time(ISIS flag/graffiti) , Hurricane police said, “Based on information we received from the FBI we do not believe this act was perpetrated by someone linked to the Islamic State.”
Hmmmm...begs a lot of questions.
Paul Zeiden probably used to hold them with his arms folded across his chest :^D
Elk...probably true.

Used to be a non-issue. Now, there are not enough books to go around so they stay in class. Thank goodness dumocrat policies rule the day!!!
Just speaking of our local schools...
I carried binders and books by the truckload and even though I was very small for my age, somehow I managed to do it without using a backpack.
Matt
Banning backpacks would be a dumb idea, for sure.
But it would save more lives than would banning firearms.
A dumb idea is still dumb, regardless of any dumb comparisons.
Like you, I walked or rode my bike to school from 1st grade on. Unlike you, I played sports which required sweating. My backpack often contained sports gear that either needed washing, or was clean and ready for use again.
I guess I could have worn my jock-strap to class, but that would have been uncomfortable. Besides, It would have detracted from my natural bulge, and I certainly didn't want to deny my female fans that pleasure. ;-)
Matt
there. fixed. nothing to it.
PaulZ and the rest of the leftists can rest easy now knowing they won't be called on to.... well, do anything that involves any actual risk or effort on their part.....
From AOS (Ace of Spades):
"ISIS is Comi[ng]:" Utah Student Arrested for Bomb Making, Researching ISIS —Ace
JJ Sefton covered this in the morning round-up but I thought I'd post this for the late-wakers, by which I mean myself, mostly.
Doesn't this student know that there are laws against joining ISIS and killing people with bombs?
Doesn't he realize his school is a Bomb Free Zone?
A smoking backpack was discovered in the cafeteria of Pine View High School in St. George, Utah Monday. Police later determined the backpack contained a bomb which could have done significant damage if it had gone off. An unnamed student was arrested and charged with creating a weapon of mass destruction. The same student had recently taken an interest in ISIS....
In addition to finding bomb-making materials, the Associated Press reports authorities also found evidence the student had been "researching" ISIS and was connected to an incident at another high school last month...
Even more harrowing: Some reports say the device might have been a "fully-semi-automatic bomb," possibly equipped with a Thing That Goes Up.
Related: From Truth Revolt, a flashback to a 2016 school shooting where the perp specifically said he chose a Gun Free Zone for his massacre, because it would of course be easier and bloodier.
Quoting from the Washington Post:
"I HAVE TO BEAT ADAM LAZA . . ." he wrote nine days before the Sept. 28, 2016, shooting in a misspelled reference to the Sandy Hook killer, Adam Lanza. "At least 40…"
Two days later, he debated whether he should attack his middle school, from which he'd been expelled, or his elementary school, just up the road. He decided on Townville Elementary because it was closer and had no armed security. Jesse, who considered himself the victim of an unfair world, announced online that he would kill kids he didn’t know and had never met "before they bullie the nobodys."
"Itll be like shooting fish in a barrel."

Here's a brief defense of knowing what the fuck you are talking about: When you propose abridging people's rights by imposing a new Prohibition, it is generally thought wise and good to know what the thing you're proposing to outlaw actually is.
A proponent of outlawing cocaine, for example, should not also seek to outlaw caffeine, on the claim that cocaine is merely a "fully-semi-automatic" version of caffeine. Nor should he talk about banning other "assault powders" such as creatine or citrulline.
Not unless he wishes to be branded a buffoon and ignoramus by people who actually know something about something.
As David Harsanyi concludes: No one is demanding that the ignorant "be silent" (probably with a Speech Silencer that makes speech 99% more deadly).
But it is fair to note that hyperemotional know-nothings shrieking "We must do something, no matter now nonsensical or counterproductive" are hysteric idiots.
Is he trying to Put a Deadly Silencer on my right to be heard?
Obviously just having a rule that you cannot bring guns, knives, drugs, bombs, etc. into a school is not working.
Hey, Chicago! How's them there laws working for you?????
