My son shot a nice coyote during the youth hunt. Any suggestions for mounting? It's his first one and has a nice pelt. Don't want a full body. Thinking of something with the skull or ????? Pic and suggestions welcomed

You should try doing your own euro mount. They are easy and it's a good way for your son to learn how and be involved with the process. I have a full body one and a head pedestal mount as well. I'll take some pics when I'm back home.

If nice pelt - case skin it and hang it up. Have the skull beetle cleaned.

Head pedestal and full body. I still suggest the diy euro. You don't need beetles and depending on how fast you drink, a 12 pack is just about perfect from start to finish!

I shot a nice one in prime last year with my 10 year old and case skinned it for wall hangar. Would have done skull but it was damaged. Just hung it on the door for pictures so you can see.

Working on getting picture of hat , but I took coyote to taxi to see what my choices were and did not want to pay for full mount and my taxi suggested the hat . Taxi skinned and sent to some place , I'm not sure where ? I will ask him,

Dennis Razza, Curious if you can share your taxidermist info that did that coyote mount on the rock?...want to get the same mount done and looking to see what form he used? Thanks Dennis!

Yeah...Dennis is the taxidermist. I doubt someone else using the same form would end up with the same quality finished product. Just sayin.

Dennis,
That is a great looking mount! I hunt coyotes a lot, and to me that looks like it is part wolf... Where is that coyote from?

Thanks for the comments. The form was altered Both size and shape. The rock was a custom made rock using quick rock panels. There’s a few forms that are very similar... just need to turn the head slightly and tip nose down.

Dennis is a master taxidermist. He’s also very modest, as you can tell from his post explaining his form modifications. Most hunters have no idea (I know I sure didn’t) how much subtle alterations in a form, or in some cases, even major alterations, can make in breathing life into a mount. Finish work aside, which in itself is another critical and unfortunately rare skill, the ability to take a decent looking stock form and alter it into something that takes your breath away in its final stage, that’s one of the things that takes taxidermey to the next level. It’s one of the reasons why you look at a mount like Dennis’ coyote above and it just blows you away. You don’t exactly know why, but he certainly does. And that’s why he’s a master.

I don't know Dennis but I do know he gets in the woods himself once in a while. Maybe some of the other taxidermists have forgot what they really look like in the wild. I too miss his threads....hint hint

Google "coyote mounts" and you will find maybe 2-5% that look realistic. Unless you are going with a taxi that has mastered them, I would just case and tan the pelt.

This looks very similar to the form Dennis used. Turning and lowering the head and nose definitely makes a huge difference, but that's just where Dennis' mastery begins. As an amateur taxidermists myself, his work is truly inspiring.

Dennis is not only a world class taxidermist, he's a heck of a hunter and probably one of the most genuinely nice human beings you could ever want to meet. Top notch guy all the way around.
