What would you do?
What would you do if this happened?
If that was on my posted private property, I would have put one at the base of his feet as a warning. I don't mean with an arrow either. Im always armed when I'm on my land. FWC would get a call too! Armed trespassing is no joke!!
I would call the authorities and try to catch the individual. I would contact my neighbors and see if they could help find out what he was driving and get some information to help identify him w/o putting themselves in danger. If I felt like I was in immediate danger I would shoot him but I hope that it would take a lot to get me there. I would try to keep him in the area until the sheriff arrived. If all he has is a knife I would much rather deal with him while I had a loaded bow in a tree than to risk running into him by surprise while on the ground. In short I would be texting like crazy and would call 911 if texting did not work or he started to leave.
Well, if it WAS a hoax, that kid's a better actor than most of the people making the big bucks in Hollywood.
On the other hand, he was in a climber. How's the "clown" supposed to do him any harm from down there? And really??? He didn't stop filming the whole time, and then he is acting all "relieved" that it's "over" while the clown casually moseys off into the woods...
Too busy making movies to stop and call the cops? Because - just sayin' - if there were someone threatening me with a knife on private property, I'm pretty sure that the local law enforcement would make time for me. The guy's wearing size 43 EEEEE shoes. He's going to be hard to track??
Anyway, the joke would be on him. I never head out without a coupla big, rubber blunts.
Shoot, I think he makes book, run one thru his ribcage!
Hmm I wonder how clown taste I always try to eat what I kill. I would guess this is a planned hoax by both hunter and clown inspired by the recent release of the new IT movie.
If it were to happen to me this would be the next photo. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
"Hmm I wonder how clown taste I always try to eat what I kill."
I hear that it tastes.........funny.
Looks like a skinny chick under that suit.
For dumb. No way this is real. Kid is over reacting, AND he's up in a tree, with a weapon........how exactly is this clown going to get to him?
LOL. Good one Joey. Some parts could be rubbery.........
If I had cell service I would immediately call the cops, if not, he would get one warning and a then broad head through the chest! Just standing below me with a knife is cause enough for me to defend myself with lethal force. Here in AZ, I can carry concealed while I bowhunt, and I usually do. So a 40 to the chest would serve the same purpose. Threat Ended!
I'm over the age of 50 so I would cowardly run away as I may get hurt or God forbid the clown calls the police on me!!!
Crack 'em with a bludgeon point, then ask him if he carries a box of band-aids in that get up?
Let's see, clown walking in woods on private property approaching Hunter and is told that he is trespassing multiple times. Ignores warnings amd continues toward hunter and then flips out a considerably large knife, BANG your all done clown. With that video and a dead clown I think it's a open and shut case for self defense. If Bozo ever approached me like that in the woods and showed a knife' he would have a very bad day of which it would be his very bad last day on Mother Earth. Now, since the video is a fake we don't need to worry about Bozo lol.
Did the clown insult your wife? Did he shoot a fawn with spots? LOL! Looks fake.
For me, the answer is simple. If this is a true story, (which I doubt,), and if a clown pulled a knife on me, the headline would read, "Dead Clown Brings Knife to Gunfight."
I would bleet when he got to 20 yards... Wack!
"I'm over the age of 50 so I would cowardly run away as I may get hurt or god forbid the clown calls the police on me!!!"
Kellyharris wins sarcastic comment of the month.
If I were in AZ or AK, I'd shoot him and call the cops. If I were in CA, I'd shoot him and bury him.
I'd let it walk. Could be a bigger clown behind him.
What I would do depends on if I had been eating mtn house or not.
I don't think I would shoot him. Looks like he needs another year.
I wonder if the clown could keep the menacing act going if someone stuck an arrow in the dirt. Or better yet a pistol shot.
If you injured the clown you would be sued in today's world.
ArcherDan- someone hD to knock Boubound of his pedistle
I see that red nose, and all I can think is.... "Pick a Spot. Pick a Spot. Pick a Spot..."
Rubber blunts - I'm tellin' ya....
I was talking with a fella from Missouri, he was on a hunt for whitetail in his home state. He heard something running towards him, and what appeared was a convict that still had his one piece orange suit on.. He said it wigged him out but he stayed quiet, and the guy passed through. When he thought it'd be safe to call it in he did so, didn't think it'd be a good idea to stop a criminal who was on the lamb. The call confirmed his sighting, and they did catch the guy he said that night..
"If I were in AZ or AK, I'd shoot him and call the cops. If I were in CA, I'd shoot him and bury him" best answer by Idyllwildarcher LMAO.
For the keyboard cowboys....carefully review the three requirements for a self defense shooting....at least one of them is missing in this case. If you can't recite the three requirements learn them well before seriously considering using a weapon in self defense.
Well, since everyone is assuming the clown would just leave you there, not throw his knife at you, didn't have a gun also, wouldn't hide and attack you when on the ground, wouldn't be waiting on you when you got back to your car, etc..., I'll concede that up a tree with a climber put him out of immediate life threatening danger with some of these assumptions. However, for the sane among us that would have no choice but to believe that anyone that acted like this fully expected to do us harm, I think it is well known what would happen to the clown.
I really don't understand some of you and, your reasoning. Have you never been in a life threatening situation? Do you assume that people just bluff their way through life? That sanity comes and goes with your reasoning of what SOMEONE else is thinking? What makes you feel the way you do? I know the video is a hoax but, it amazes me what some people think is reasonable to assume about someone else. I guess what I'm saying is, how do you rationalize when it is appropriate to defend yourself?
After you have been stabbed, robbed, shot, your wife threatened in front of your eyes? Wait, I know, after you and your wife have been screamed at, cussed, and then threatened. No, we've already determined anyone who would assume that as life threatening is just an internet tough guy.
My point is, had this been real, what about this wasn't life threatening? God Bless men
Obviously the recent release of "IT" has inspired some would be filmmakers.
Below are the three basic requirements for self defense. There are other definitions that sometimes include four or five requirements but they tend to be more detailed explanations of the basic three. In the example presented it would seem that opportunity is limited given that the guy is at least ten feet up a tree with no obvious way for the "Clown" to get close enough to do damage with a knife.
Ability means that the other person has the power to kill or to cripple you.
Opportunity means that the circumstances are such that the other person would be able to use his ability against you.
Jeopardy means that the other person’s actions or words provide you with a reasonably-perceived belief that he intends to kill you or cripple you.
Stubble, ain't no such requirements in my state. You just have to prove you thought your health or your life was in danger. Next time I shoot some a-hole in Minn. though, I'll keep this in mind.
Since this suposidly happened in West Virginia. The kid says private property. What is West Virginia's castle doctrine law? I know every state is different.
I'd totally slap him and make him wash the ridiculous face paint off...wait...are we talking about the hunter or the clown?
In WV, if it was real, he'd been DEAD. And the law would not have been on the clown's side. Because we have the RIGHT to protect life and property against any perceived threat to either. With deadly force. We are a "Stand your Ground" state. That's how I know it isn't real. If it had been, that clown would have been heart shot with a short blood trail.
I was hoping you would chime in WV. I figured you would know.
My question was due to 2 reasons. 1 the whole private property comment in the video and 2 Stubbleduck threw out a blanket list for self defense.
Me, I don't ever want to have to kill anybody, but I did think through some of WVM's points earlier...
How do you know that clown's not lying in wait for you? Honestly? I'd have the cops escort me the hell outta there. Assuming that I was hunting where there was cell service, of course. We have no option of carrying a firearm while bowhunting here, and I wouldn't want to feel obligated to walk outta there with an arrow on the string - especially not if it got dark. At that point, the Ability and Jeopardy requirements that Stubble listed have been satisfied, IMO, and that alone satisfies the third.
What about throwing the knife? He cocks his wrist, he may as well cock a rifle. That escalates things when he has a choice and you do not. Because, to your point, WVM.... You'd be quite literally Treed. If you need a better definition of having zero alternatives for escape, I don't know what it could be.
On the other hand, if the only weapon you've got is a knife, you'd have to be a complete Bozo to throw it away. And I can throw an accurate-enough arrow a lot farther than most people can hit the side of a barn with a handgun, let alone throw a knife.
Drycreek...The three requirements are the basis for proof that your life was in danger. Check with a local attorney.
GF, you got the point I was making. After reading yet another post by someone trying to ridicule common thought with condescending lecture, I was simply trying to convey that any situation such as this has many unknown real time results, depending on the true intent of the "clown". However, if I were in the situation portrayed, I'm sure that the clown actually throwing the knife would only enter my mind after it was over. One thing is for sure, I'd been scared beyond description. Which unfortunately would have sealed the clown's fate. That isn't tough guy internet talk either. I've always been taught and, lived by the creed that if you do stupid things to other people, bad things are bound to happen to you as consequence. God Bless
I'd try for a spine shot, but then again a gut shot would be better. Then he wouldn't die right under my stand. And you DEFINITELY want a pass through so you recover the arrow. So the question then is...............
COC or chisel point? 2 blade? 3? 4?
I wonder if he'd be a "shooter" according to QCM standards? (Quality Clown Management).
If nothing else keep in mind that whatever is written on websites such as this may show up in court as evidence should the writer get involved in a self defense case. Excess bravado and threats may be taken as an aggressive state of mind or intent. Rather than thrash it out on a website invest in a 15 minute discussion with a local criminal defense attorney (My daughter is one) to be sure you fully understand the issues and requirements surrounding self defense in your jurisdiction, it simply is not as cut and dried as folks tend to think. If you have to defend with violence you have to but it really should be an absolute last resort with the understanding that, at best, it's going to be very unpleasant and expensive.
It really comes down to you perceived threat,if you believe your life is in danger you can meet the force that is being applied towards you. In this case a big ass knife randomly pulled on you by a nut job walking in the woods on private land is enough for you to feel your life is in danger. I'd take my chances with 12 jurors. Plus, whenever your involved with a personal defense situation and the police arrive simply state that you were in fear for your life and then don't talk any further until you have a lawyer at your side. Tell police that. Your willing to talk but want your to consult with your lawyer first, then tell them that you need medical and want to go to the hospital. George Zimmerman never would have hit the inside of a courtroom had he waited to consult a lawyer. His dumbass wanted to play action hero and talk and let video be taken, wrong move.
Stubbleduck, Let's assume for a minute, that this was real and not staged (and I don't pretend to know either way), at what point does opportunity become realistic....when he starts to climb the stand? When he is halfway up? When the arm holding the knife is cocked, back, and starting forward...(for us former NFL fans)? The one thing that I do know, is that my cellphone would be recording every bit of this incident.....and if he started to ascend the ladder, I'd probably try to hold it with my bow hand as I am releasing the arrow, first for proof of what happened, and second, so I could watch my Nockturnal, to determine shot placement.....ok, so the second part was a little over the top.
Like others have said, I don't want to EVER have to shoot someone! Although if I ever felt I HAD to, I would not hesitate. In this situation, I would feel fairly safe. In PA they changed the law a while back and you CAN carry concealed if you have a permit during bow season.
The Clown is apparently trying to threaten and intimidate the hunter. If this happened to me I would be recording as I draw my pistol, put my red lazer right in the middle of his chest and warn the clown that I feel threatened and if he makes any move toward me he will be shot!
I don't think I would have to worry about seeing him on my private property again! ;-)
Never let anyone NEAR you with a knife in a threatening situation. This video shows why.
Damn I hate clowns. I think I'd rather see a grizzly bear under my tree.
surfbow has the best idea...
"I'd totally slap him and make him wash the ridiculous face paint off...wait...are we talking about the hunter or the clown?"
I'd hate to kill anyone. I have enough stuff that keeps me awake at night.
No one on earth knows the big timber tract I hunt as well as I do. And I'm fairly fast (or used to be before getting fat). I'd try to get away first. I'm fairly confident someone in clown shoes couldn't catch me over a short distance or a long distance.
If my daughter was with me. . . . . my answer would be different
Come on fellows, be realistic,
It's Big Foot, in disguise !
Dang it, guys! I was all excited to hunt in this new ground blind I discovered the other day...until I opened this thread! :-(
I would defend myself ! I hate clowns , so I have very little patience with clowns in the woods , but this is fake so I wont worry about it .
Here in Louisiana we can only (legally) carry a .22 with "Rat-Shot" (for snakes) during Bow Season, so I don't bother. Assuming this is a "Real" video I'm not sure I'd want to walk out of the woods with only a bow. Two choices: if the authorities can't be reached, I'd have no choice but to neutralize the threat. No "Macho" shit, I just like going home after a hunt, a lot!
That's exactly what I was going to say... It's a proven fact that a knife is more deadly than a gun within 21 feet. In other words, a person can cover 21 feet and stab you before 99 percent of the people walking can draw a weapon and fire accurately if at all.
How much would it cost me to get a clown mounted at the taxidermy and hang him on the wall?
Maybe 21 HORIZONTAL feet; 21 VERTICAL feet? Not thinkin' so.
"The one thing that I do know, is that my cellphone would be recording every bit of this incident."
Yes to that one, too. And NOT with it inside my pocket.
"If my daughter was with me. . . . . my answer would be different"
Right on, brother!
Just tell the guy to quit clowning around.
Fact: the hunter was an adolescent (at least appeared to be).
Fact: the psycological affect of fear, terror actually, that clowns (with knives) can have on people puts it into a different class than a 5' 10" fatso with a baseball bat that most people can outrun.
Those two alone could answer to the justification of using deadly force. The warning was issued in the form of this is private property. The warning was ignored showing intent, a knife was pulled showing ability.
Really all an attorney will do is research and cite case law of what could be the outcome. A civil suit in defensive killings is always a sure bet.
I agree though, most likely a prank...
If you can't outrun a clown with big floppy shoes than I think it's more a case of natural selection.
Remember Sideshow Bob? Dude was an evil genius. Food for thought.
I hate ******* clowns. i would call police first and shoot it he was at all menacing. Let GOD sort this freak out.
