Show us a pic of it hanging on the wall. Looks like a good idea

What kind of screw & size you using in the skull? You shoulda been an engineer instead of a CPA! Nicely done.

Three in lag bolt with a large washer to help catch the bracket and hold it. I use 1” drywall screws in the skull after predrilling very small catch holes.. remember it’s my buddies idea that I stole, therefore maintaining my CPA credentials ????

The farther you back the lag hold out the more flush with the wall the teeth will become. I’m ok with how it looks so I’m leaving it

Great idea. You can do the same thing with wire through the skull and a heavy duty picture frame hanger for a similar price and less drilling.

Could you fill the brain cavity with some kind of compound to provide more support with 50+ lb of antler?

I have done some like that in the past but have since switched over to just using wire that I run thru the brain cavity then back out thru the small holes on either side of the brain cavity hole. Works great no need to drill holes, use screws and is much stronger and more secure.

For smaller euro mounts, I decided to use up corner wall space.
Took some scrap cedar and a dowel and made these.
The dowel slips into the brain cavity hole in the skull and the upper jaw is supported on the angled piece.
And the is a stud in every corner so solid screw attachment is guaranteed

Would be curious to see how you put together one with wire.

In the pic just above that shows the back of the skull, there are holes to the SE and NE of the brain hole. Run the wire in one and out the other then twist it together.

I've just taken a jigsaw and cut a slot going straight up from the bran hole. Maybe 3/4" on a whitetail. Then nake sure the screw I put in the wall is a round head and it just goes into the brain hole, and then slides into the slot. Gives the head the same angle away from the wall as a skull hooker that accentuates the rack so much more.

This is what I use, works great and is really simple.

my .02 cent hanger

Here are a couple of the wire hangers I use now. Easy to do just cut a length of wire of your choice fold it in half and thread the 2 ends down into the brain cavity and out thru the small holes on either side (helps if you pre-bend the ends out at about 45 degrees to make it easier to feed it out the small holes). Then I hook these onto "L" shaped screws/hangers that I screw into the wall.

Those "holes in the brain cavity" are cranial nerve foramen. Just in case anyone wanted any useless information!!!
