When turkeys go from jakes to long beards do their middle tail feathers get shorter or do the outside feathers get longer?

Outside feathers get longer.

Neither

Technically Jack and I are both right, they molt and the outside feathers grow back longer as the full fan. So the real answer is they fall out, then grow back longer.

think we got the answer since they molt every year.

the beard and the middle tail feathers are connected. As the beard gets longer the middle tail feathers are pulled in to line with the outside tail feathers. This is the exact opposite of the relationship between the snood and the spurs.
