Bowhunting hat preference

Which do you prefer wearing in mild weather bow hunting.a 2" soft brim bucket hat,or a soft brim patrol style hat.seems like the big company's have drifted away from the old school styles, thanks, dan
I like DayOne Camo hats. So I guess I'm neither. Their brim is softer than either of the above.
Bowmania
I like a red one with ear-flaps but have been known to wear a batting helmet. Seriously...you need advice on which hat to wear????
My bowstring doesn't interfere with a hard brim. Windy here in NM and soft brim can drive me crazy flopping around. Plus I need as much sun coverage as I can get, so my go-to for years has been a Sitka BB (once you try a synthetic hat in hot/wet weather you'll never use cotton again) with my own French foreign legion flap added on the back to keep the blazing sun at bay.
Recently I've been using Sitka's new Boonie, which is pretty darn good too.
boonie. covers ears and you can put bug spray all the way around rim
Don't like anything over my ears but I'm primarily an elk hunter and it plays tricks on hearing bugles and from which direction so I just went back to a ball cap.
I don't need advice what to wear,I make these styles.I'm a bowhunter and trying to get a feel for the trend.
Sombrero for me. If you can make one in Optifade I want it.
Black Fedora 35 years now. I was a good style for Fred!
Generally just a baseball cap. As soon as it is mildly cool I like a beanie
I prefer a 1 1/2" bill or brim on front of cap/hat. Doesn't interfere with string and yet can shade eyes from sun.
Hat brim helps to cover ears to a degree. I can't wear a face mask. It interferes my anchor point.
Boonie for me. When it gets cold I switch to an insulated bomber hat.
Sitka ball cap for me. I don’t like stuff over my ears
I got a cap from Barry Wensel, it has a flex bill. Got it off their Brothers of the Bow website..Figured it would have good mojo.
Warm weather- baseball cap. Cold weather- Stormy Kromer
Any hat that can hold the local brush or weeds. This buck or one of his buddies got out of bed and looked at me 4 different times as I closed in. I was completely exposed and standing 1 time and sliding on my can the others.
It's just a guess since they won't tell me, but I think the brush or weeds break up that round predator dome look. I've got to get a lot closer than most and the hat really changes the equation.
Like the camo pants????
Exact same as yooper89 Warm weather- baseball cap. Cold weather- Stormy Kromer
Always a ball cap. I will add some type of sock cap or beanie over top if it is cold.
Neither. I normally wear a Sitka ball cap. If it’s cold I wear a Sitka beanie.
Jones Style camo pattern hat all the way! Been wearing such since 1957, my first bow season. Bought four of 'em in the 1990s, still have one brand new and one half done. They'll last me I am sure through my last bowhunt.
I like your short brimmed hat, I have a few that are old, I also wear boonie hats, baseball type hats and a very nice custom made fedora:) What do you charge for your hats?
Fleece cap, no brim...but I carry a cap in my pack if the sun is an issue.
Rich
Ball cap and if really cold, I’ll put a stocking cap over the top of it. I gotta have a bill of some kind.
-25 windchill this day.
Flat bill pulled down over the tops of my ears.
Boonie hat with face net, whatever I use it has to have a short brim for clearance of the string on my longbow
Boonie hat with fold-down ear flaps. I don't like ball caps because they don't keep sun off my ears and neck.
I prefer a pimp hat. After all, what trophy buck would be looking for a pimp in the woods ?
My boonie hat is my mostest favoritest hat :)
Baseball cap. I like the bill if it's sunny and I'm facing the sun. Beanie when it gets cold.
Neither of those. Baseball cap when it’s nice, beanie when it cools off.
I increasingly like the boonie style because of the sun protection it affords. The lightweight Kuiu is my go to these days. Plus the chicks dig it.
I'm very partial to radar style caps......prefer fleece versions
Boonie always. Too much high altitude sun in early season esp in Nevada
Matt...Funny thing...After some thorough hat testing, I’ve found it’s ME the chicks are digging, not my hat.
Yep baseball cap and if really cold a first lite merino beanie does the trick!
Anything but those flat brim baseball hats...... makes me want to yank em off their heads and bend em into a proper shape....... "there ya go, now wear it......"
I like the OR hats, larger brim boonies all the way up to Solar Sombreros for working in the sun. Tie dye is kinda fun for camo..... I like to tie up the sides sometimes too. I have an OR goretex/fleece sombrero I like for mainland fall. If it's cold and rainy I have a KUIU beanie in the pack too. Works when you may be using a hooded jacket or rain gear.
Danny, THAT'S got a proper curvature to it..... =D
the hat I mean.....
Boonie/floppy has been my go to hat for years.
Even in the cold I wear a wool type face mask and my boonie/floppy in a winter camo over it.

Robb
Boonie for me. Can stick brush in it and can move over eyes somewhat as a sunshade as well as keep my nose and ears shaded from the sun.

-Tom, those aren't hats. They're "lids" accordingly to the kids. And all I can think is, "Well kid, garbage cans have lids not hats or caps."
I wear a ball cap if shading is required but a bandanna or beanie is just as likely. Full face shield helmet is probably the most sensible.:)
Ball cap for me. Sometimes camo sometimes Brown.
Baseball cap. With proper curvature.
This style that Dan, "Box Call" makes or ball cap!
A boonie in open country. A ball cap in timber. A merino beanie underneath if it's cool.
A plain ole fleece stocking cap if whitetail hunting from a treestand.
My Predator Camo Baseball cap was my favorite for a while, but when my kid met Jeff Gordon at the track, it was all I had for him to sign and so now it cannot get washed and hangs in my game room.
Ball cap in warm weather. Camo Gore Tex Stormy Kromer when it gets chilly to cold. Fleece beanie when its really cold.
Won't tell you his name, but he had this hat on and was standing in front of a little willow when he shot this bou at 15 yards.
Danny that nv 5 point is still my favorite bull youve killed. Maybe az will smile on you again this year??
My go to lucky hat for over 25 years!
LKH, wasn't there a woman on Laugh In that wore a hat just like that. LOL
My Lucky Hat...20+ Years and still going...
Now that's a good looking boonie elkmtngear. I could wear that one.
I've had a few favorites over the years. I need to see if I can find some photos... Currently it's this one.
Good ol camo ball hat. I just make sure the bill doesn't effect my string.
I'm a traditional archer, so I wear my trad hat
I learned the hard way one sunny fall day in my treestand: if a hat doesn't have a long enough bill you never want to look toward the sun. Very uncomfortable afternoon. Threw that useless thing away when I got home.
My Boonie is over 20 years old. The kids make fun of it every chance they get.
Boxcall, one subject that consistently comes up on the Wall, year after year is, where can I find a non-insulated Jones style hat?
Now, with your sewing skills, there's a niche for that style in multiple camo flavors.
'Head' to it!
;-)
Couple folks over on the CF wear these....... likely inspired Fuzzy's hat!
LKH.......Is that Carmen Miranda’s brother?!!
I don’t have a preference in hats but... when I do where a ball cap I wear it like a man ... not like these kids today with the brim flat enough to land a plane on!!
Boonie. Caps that have bills get in the way of my shooting.
Boonie caps, like your's on the right--looks good.
Love a good radar hat if I can find one that fits right. Other than that, just a ball cap.
Ball cap until it cools off, then fleece radar hat.
Grasshopper's Link
I want to get fuzzies hat and wear it to the event at the link

Like many, I wear some type of ball cap. It's comfortable, shades my face, and is unrestrictive. But if you want the most effective head gear for camouflage, you need to break up the human outline appearance of a 'bowling bowl on a post'. Some type of hoody does that best, although that has other drawbacks. But most of us would rather make some type of fashion statement. ;-)
Ballcap mid day. But for chilly mornings I like my Sitka Jetstream hat with earflaps. Very comfortable!
Boonie Hat or Visor Beanie are my favorites for bow hunting but I also wear ballcaps and big straw hats the rest of the time. I'm a hat guy for sure!
I wear a Boonie with mesh panels in warm weather and a beanie once it cools off.
I like this one !! Thanks for the hat Box Call !!!
I've got several camo ball cap types, and it depends on the hair if they fit good or not.also I don't like those pinch bill caps that is popular now.I've got one from the nwtf, and it gives me a headache from the temple squeezing.I prefer my bucket hats.
