I spent an hour looking for morels yesterday and decided as long as I was in the area of a trail cam to pull it. I was standing at the dead tree and thought, this might be a good place to look and looked down and saw a bunch of mushrooms growing all over the place. I am not a very good mushroom hunter, but have found more by accident then by looking for them. I'm sure many of you have similar experiences.
There were no pictures of popping morels on the trail cam however ;)
Yep, we find them in different spots every year!
Find more of those dead elms and you'll find more of those morels!
you mean Morels ... Morals is something that comes from the inner self ..
Ha ha good catch! Probably brings less interest spelled wrong.
Morels and elm trees go hand in hand. Great find BTW. God Bless men
Definitely a good looking prospect elm tree. Just starting to lose its bark. Haven’t found any here as of yet. Should be popping any day here. Got the moisture, just need a little heat. Been pretty cool this past week.
Got some half free morels the other day
Found a few this spring but has been behind with the cool weather.
I'm having immoral thoughts about morels; this affects my morale. :)
"Morals is something that comes from the inner self .. "
If I eat too many morels, they rapidly leave my inner self.
I’m sure I’ve walked past some through the years but I’ve never even seen one
We found around 14 last weekend plus the shed of the one I miss this past season
You can see two mushrooms around Michele’s feet
Fortunately the days of me searching the ground for my morals in the early morning hours are past me!
I hate to even think about early-life, early-morning searching for morals.
Kinda like looking for UFO’s or Bigfoot !!
I never searched for morals. I just let them come to me.
When I was young and stupid, I usually lost my morals after the 5th drink or so. I was left hunting for them the next morning (Usually coinciding with a headache and shame)
Those days are behind me now that I am old and stupid.
The first guy that ate one of those must have been darn hungry......
Morels, not Morals. BIG difference!
I usually wear my Merrells when hunting Morels. Comfortable shoes are the key.
Is it ethical to pick morals
Bou, did you find any morals, yet?
PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )
Forgot the obligatory tree stand boot pic. I’ve never had any luck hunting them from a tree stand. Spot-n-stalk is my preferred method.
They’ve started popping here in the last few days, finally.
Yeah, I was expecting another ethics thread. I have never found any morels in NY State. And not many morals south of Yonkers.
LMBO! Good one Trapper! : ) But I don't think there are many around Albany either! (Morals, that is! ;-)
Most of Albany represents NYC... ;)
I do have to say, the last few times I visited NYC, I found the people there very friendly and nice, and ever since Rudy Giuliani 'cleaned it up', the city is far more 'Moral'.
is it moral to tell my wife I need a special, new bow for morel hunting?
That's living off the land right there.
Yep! Living the "organic" life! : )
Illinois yesterday Tail end of things
Yeah, looks like you were a few days too late there bowfin but they'll still eat!
I've got a ton of these on my land, they're called pheasant backs. Think I'll get some today and fry em up.
Last year I started eating pheasant backs for the first time and they are great ! I like as much as morels. They are best when found early , they will get tough when to old .
venison is right (just sounds good to say that). It doesn't take pheasant backs long to get big and then they are tough!
I keep looking for morels here in Oneida Co. Must be looking in all the wrong places. I find these though.
Those are pheasant backs Trapper.
this is ridiculous. i can't find the darn things. what is the best habitat? I am in Morel country.
I like sandy areas around dead stumps and trees, my rookie mistakes were looking where it was to wet and dirt was to black , I have found a lot on the side of ridges and just following deer and elk trails .
The morels are pooping out around here now but I did find myself an Oyster log the other day.... My morals made me cut a few off for dinner! ;-)
I have been checking known spots on my property and until the 19th have found nothing, then finally about 5. It is getting late, not sure I am going to see many this year. SW WI
In my area of NY they seem to be found on a small slope where it is dank and darker...along small seeps and streams...under older apple or Ash trees...they are camouflage well so you have to slow down and really look. They are not everywhere. I have 3 spots where I find them repeatedly. I've been turkey hunting and checked one spot a week ago and nothing...2 days of rain and all of a sudden they are all up
Took this pic last week:)
