Trail on fox den
Nice pic...I had a pet Red Fox as a kid growing up...my dad got it from a farmer who accidently bulldozed up a den....His name was Chico, he was house trained and got along great with our collie and cat....all three would play together in the yard....Jeff
This is the best thread going. Very cool . Thanks
Love those critters !! .... Jeff
Incredible pics.....thanks for posting!
Awesome Bear! I found a fox den just a couple hundred yards from our house two weeks ago. I've had a ball watching them romp and play with each other. They grow up FAST! We live on the edge of a fairly urban area as well so it was quite a surprise to find them there!
Brotsky, I live very close to a large shopping center with a Target, about twenty clothing stores and some restaurants. I see a fox once a month or so. I think it's probably the same one each time. I leave for work at about 3:30am each morning it's really cool to see the fox, kind of like "You may be sneaky but I know you're out there!" type of feeling.
Those are some real cool pictures. When I first built my house (I am in the middle of a big city) I had a fox that lived in the area. I would see him every now and then in the backyard. He would sit on a dirt mound when the house was being built and watch the neighbor dog in his fence.
Unfortunatley I saw him dead on the on ramp to the freeway on day.
this is my girlfriends favourite thread on bowsite lol. Great pics!
Those little buggers love to play fight with each other. There's not a minute that goes by it seems when they aren't rough housing each other. The fox's by my place are like a bunch of little kids, always picking at each other until one gets mad enough to start something. Funny as heck to watch!
Bear, what time are you getting most of your pictures? "My" foxes are really active right away in the morning and at last light. I'm assuming they are active more after dark as well. I rarely have seen them out of the den during the day.
Early morning and evening are sometimes active and always afterr dark and some days in the middle of the day but not often The adult seldom shows up in front of the cam. I bring them a treat everyday when I check the cams .They don't pop out and take the treat but wait a few hours before they come back out No midday pics today at the first den they were out 8:30 pm to 4:35 am Here are a few from today
Your trail camera pictures are ALWAYS the best! Nice work once again!
Thanks for sharing your great photos!
Best wishes, Fisher
notice the deer heads on the skyline in the last two pics
Terrific pics there Bear! Great to have such cooperating subjects.I saw a red only a 1/4 mile from my house last week.Hope there is at least a pair, altho it was smack dab in the middle of a favorite turkey hunting spot....
Very nice thank you for posting!
Absolutely one of the best trail camera shots I have seen. What camera are you using and could you share how it is set up. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks they are homemade sony S600's digital cameras and I attached a pic of the setup on the den
Bear Thanks for the info and PIC of the set-up. I have a couple homebrew with Sony P41's that I picked up from a guy a few years ago. They take great pics. I need to take more time and do pics other than deer.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
Great pics. What is in the air in the pic where they are laying down on the dirt. It' at 2 o clock or so. Looks kinda like a plane but not sure.
Would think a separate thread on how to build your own trail camera that takes kick @ss pics like Bear's woudl be a great thread.
Thanks all.All the pics before May 30 that have a time date stamp are from P41's I do'nt know whats if the sky in that pic Could be a bird not many planes around. Here is a link to a site that shows you everything you need to know on home made cameras http://camtrapper.com/index.php?sid=ec9c500c04499f93a72c2ad3fbf1b8f6
Sorry about the double click
No new pics of these critters ? One of the best threads on here !!
I just noticed one of the fox must have been caught and someone put a ring in his ear
Some poser pic from that fox
They are always going in the sand
Great pics thanks for sharing. You could sell some of them.
Once again, I say great pics......Jeff
who would put a ring in a fox's ear? That is strange...don't ya think?
When I look back at the pics from the lastcouple months the ring dtd not show up until a couple weeks ago and they were pretty big then.Could have been caught in a live trap or somehow got it caught in his ear while trying to get in a duck pen about a 1/4 mile away.
Probably got some tatoos, too. Kids these days... :)
A neighbor caught it in a live trap by his goose pen. He said it was not easy to get it in.
Why did he put a ring in it's ear? I would have loved to have watched him put that ring in his ear: )
My guess is it would be neat to catch it again during fur season and know it was the same one you let go.
so cool to see them grow up! They'll be out on their own swiping chickens before long. lol
Thanks again for sharing the pics.
He does not like sharing his treats but does not have any choice
Competion for thier treats
This has been a cool thread. Thanks for sharing Bear
Great pics! Unfortunately had a 'yote in my backyard just recently - eating our local red fox.
Thanks everyone. I got more today
I am raiding my bear bait barrels to keep them happy
I have three fox and two skunks that take turns eatting
Here is the skunk with narrow stripe I have had two fox at one time with no ring in the ear and the one with the ring.
A fox moved back into the den I thought it was the same pup from last year because it looked to have ring in its ear but its a different ear than the one from last year I'll have to talk to the trapper to see if he did more than one
Wow them are some great pictures. "A mother for sure" maybe we there will be lots of pics of little one again. One can only hope.
It was mentioned earlier about being surprising fox were close to urban areas. They do that to avoid the coyotes.
Got the first kit pic yesterday hoping for lots more.
Awesome Bear! I need to go down the street and check my den from last spring ot see if it's in use again! Guess I didn't realize they had their kits this early!
Thanks for sharing. This is a great thread.
The pups put on a show last night Seven pups and got 175 pics
This one is king I think!
Here is the one pic with all senven in it
Bear, do you know how old they are before their blue eyes turn color?
Bear, great job once again! Keep 'em coming!
Thanks not sure on the eyes last year I did not find the den until May 9th they were all orange colored by then their eyes were a little more brown by then you can see the difference day to day
These are from this morning I changed the cam to a little better one.
Awesome! Love to follow this thread. Thanks!!
Absolutely Awesome pics...that is so cool!
Fantastic! Love this thread.
They have been buried in a snow bank I dug them out and brought some food for them hope they are still there and have not moved to a warmer spot .I'll find out in the morning. This pic they are fighting over a rabbit the mother brought them
I guess I did that one already sorry.
Wow, what a treat. GREAT THREAD.
Very cool! My kids and I loved looking at the new fox kits.
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing!
But I'm really cute when I'm cleaned up!
BEAUTIFUL PICS! WELL DONE!!
Cool pics! I used to have a bunch of them at my place until they raided my neighbor's chicken coop. Makes me miss them! I can't believe they leave the camera alone. Mine would chew up anything within reach. Worse than my kids! Keep them coming...
What picture sequence are you using (one shot each minute, 5 minutes ??).
One every 10 seconds or as quick as the battery can recharge for another flash
Looks like the neighbors showed up
If we push together I think we can tip that camera over and under the log
Awesome thread! Thanks for sharing
This is the single best thread ever. I have to share it, my whole family will sit at look at it together...
Awesome thread. Any ideas of the survival rate on the eight pups?
Is that your place in the background of one of the shots?
Must look like a mini lightning storm all night out there!
Thanks. Great thread. My granddaughter is loving it for sure.
Thanks guys They are just on the edge of a small town along the railroad tracks she split the pups into three different den site 200 yds apart I have a camera on each site and usually get on or two sometime three and some times four I think they move around back and forth so its hard to tell. The weather has been pretty damp lately and makes it hard to get good pics. One day I will hardly get any pics and the next a lot.The first fox pic from this thread is in the june Field and Stream magazine showing that it won the spring contest last year along with my name and town . I won this year again with the mother standing in front of the den with the kits nursing under her.
One of the best threads .... curious, do those tracks get any traffic ? And have any pups been lost on the tracks do to trains.....
Great thread!!! I saw it with over 200 posts and thought, what the heck?! Now I know!
Thanks all JVT I walk the tracks each day and never saw any that got hit train go through everyday had some rain the last few days
These Pics are from the hay barn she moved some of the pups too
As a kid growing up we had a pup red fox...had him for several years..... his name was Chico and he was house trained and played with our cat and collie...the neatest thing was watching him stalk and pounce on the cats tail....the fox was a save from a farmer who unearthed its den while moving a brush pile....one day he went to the door and wanted out(normal) and never came back....
Got a really cool bunch of pics yesterday
A kind of before and after pic
I think its the forth baby wood chuck they caught they both live in the same hay barn this last pic was two days before the first series
Just bring this back to the top in case anyone wants to see the whole story.
Thank you! I've followed this thread before and was very glad to revisit it!
Lets keep it near the top!
