Lol i thought you were gonna throw a curveball first question as always, so i picked no shot. Ended up being wrong and now i do have a headache from getting pissed at my self

08-Dec-08
yeah, me too. I picked A because C didn't look like enough angle to be from the "treestand" they said they were in.

wasn't much of a trick question I guess.

I hope I didnt give the answer away...

From: BrettU
08-Dec-08
I love the "choose your shot based on actual photo, don't compensate for camera."

Followed by:

-Disregard the leaves as they weren't seen from the shooters angle.

I guess it really is going to be a headache edition. LOL

From: tundrajumper
09-Dec-08
the deer looks small and i won't shoot a fawn. I'll take the zero, thank you

From: kellyharris
09-Dec-08
Ok first question and this is starting to give me a headache. Why wouldnt it have been the letter ? (I chose)

09-Dec-08
Looks like C would have been all shoulder blade. So, I would've aimed a little higher and taken A. That's just me I guess.

From: nijimasu

DAMMIT! I had a perfect score on the last one, and have already goose-egged on this one.

Here we go!

Pat,

Thanks for the challenge. I'm sure there is a lot of work and planning that goes into each one. Just part of the reason this is the best bowhunting site on the web.

I can't get past question 1, I answered c, and thats all the further I can go

From: Scotty

Switchback,

Ya gotta stay tuned, we get a new question each day. Hang in there.

I picked wrong too. Oh well, didn’t like any so picked none.

From: non-typical
09-Dec-08
i chose C because the rest of them didnt look right to me. i also agree that it was a smaller deer but thats not the point of the game. IMO

From: travis@work
09-Dec-08
C to me looks a little low at that steep of an angle...i`m guessing why Pat is calling it a headache is because it`s a single lung hit and the deer lives at least 8 hours after the shot. I had a doe live 12 hours on a one lung hit and it took another arrow to finish her off...looked like the perfect hit to me at the time...100 yards into the trail I knew something was wrong so I backed out..

From: bill brown
09-Dec-08
I agree with the guys who liked A better than C. If it's a nightmare trail, maybe it is the one lung hit I thought was likely shooting at C. I C is the shot, the angle is not as severe as it looked to me.

I would have shot it in the head, just kidding. C was the obvious choice just because I think it was exposed enough to get your arrow in.

From: 12yards
09-Dec-08
Why is it that I never agree on your shot placement. I got it right, but I would have picked the average of the three for my shot.

From: Bx3
09-Dec-08
Chief are you using your pictures as evidence that it should or should not be letter C?

From: GAFFER1

"Looks like C would have been all shoulder blade. So, I would've aimed a little higher and taken A. That's just me I guess."

It may just be me, but C looks to be nowhere near the shoulder blade. B seems to be right about the spot that the shoulder bones turn back (the point of the < ) and A would be nearer the actual blade.

From: nijimasu
10-Dec-08
awesome. two zeros. I even thought about exactly what Pat gave as the reason I screwed up. Then didn't listen to myself. Come to think of it- I've screwed up in the field by not listening to myself more often than not. I guess I am learning something here.

From: nijimasu

at least # 3 is easy.

From: Fabow
11-Dec-08
I dont know about 3 being easy or obvious I didnt like any letter, an average of a,b and c, o.k. but c looks like you could miss left lung its still fun

From: ruger109
11-Dec-08
Man I usually do poorly on these things, I'm batting 1000 so far!!!!

From: kellyharris
11-Dec-08
OK I am done with this thing. Pat you say there are tricks you ask for the best shot and You do not say anywhere that your photo of the deer are to be used. You say of the four from the 4 choices below what is the best shot? I still say it is A I agree shoot for the exit hole and if you chose A you have a left lung and a heart shot and the exit hole bleediing through the main shoulder muscle. WIth shot A that deer will not travel 40 yards! Just my thoughts! Does anyone have any aspirin??

From: Bullshooter
11-Dec-08
Hey, it's working!

I got a headache!

From: Seminole
11-Dec-08
Question 3 was definitely an "opinion" even though I got partial credit. I would split the distance on what was my definition of a perfect shot. C to me was not the "perfect" shot. If you waited until the deer was broadside then you would have had the "perfect" shot. KellyHarris: Will Advil do?

From: chief400
11-Dec-08
Partial points are better than none I guess. This one could get interesting since we have not even shot the deer yet!!!!!!

From: dihardhunter
11-Dec-08
I'm figured on D. The deer has already been shot at, by the time it tries to duck your arrow, you wind up back at C and booyah. Come on Pat, I thought we were supposed to be outthinking ourselves!

From: kellyharris
11-Dec-08
I still dont know how A didnt give any points? Its quartering away it is obviously left lung and heart? Am I wrong. I had this same shot on my buck this year but quartering to me. Oh well after 80+ deer kills what do I know?

Seminole - I think a morhine pump may be needed ;<)

From: Bx3
11-Dec-08
I was between B and C. B would be a heart shot. C would hit back lung/liver on the left and lung on the right. I would opt for the heart shot but I can see how C works. Personally I would pick the point directly between the 2 and about an inch higher. Actually, screw that! After looking at it again I would still say B was the best available!

From: kshunter
11-Dec-08
I got it right but IMO the virtual deer isn't at as much of an angle as the real dear. Headache edition i was assuming the front two shots, i believe they're A and B, would hit the tree. just my thoughts

From: Solocam1
11-Dec-08
I totally disagree with the answer for #3. If you pick C, you hit liver and far lung. You may even hit the top of the stomache. B should be the answer because look at the far front leg. With B you're in line with the heart and will hit at least the left lung. May hit bottom of far lung which will give a great blood trail.

11-Dec-08
I agree that from the 3D model if you put the arrow right on B it'll go right through the bottom of the heart which would kill the deer quickly. But if you miss B just a little low you miss vitals completely, so why aim for that spot when aiming a little higher puts your arrow dead center in the vitals (upper heart/lung area) and missing a little either way still results in a kill. C in the 3d model looks slightly further back then I would aim, but when you look at the picture of the actual deer you can see there's a tree to contend with. A and B require you to aim just inches from that tree with the risk of sticking the arrow in the tree. Why risk that when C is a safe shot that puts your arrow through all kinds of vitals (liver, lungs, maybe some stomach...).

From: kellyharris
11-Dec-08
Yeh but listen to Pat's question he doesnt say go by the camera angle he says from 4 choices below. So with the illustration there is no tree. I followed his orders and got a freakin headache

From: bill brown
11-Dec-08
I keep losing points by hitting the submit button before I select my choice. Is anybody else this clumsy?

11-Dec-08
Yeah that "go by the 3D model" part is a little confusing. I just assumed that if he just wanted you to go by the model there's no need for the actual photo. Pat probably could have worded that a little differently if he knew there'd be confusion, or maybe I'm confused and you're not supposed to look at the photo and all my logic from my last response is wrong..who knows! its all fun

From: BirdBoy
11-Dec-08
Did anyone else see Pat's name in the top 200? It looks like he has gotten a few wrong himself.

From: BirdBoy
11-Dec-08
I figured that, but it still seems pretty funny!

From: Killer J
11-Dec-08
Isn't every heart shot a shallow shot?? I picked B and would still pick it because C looks like it could still result in a gut shot. This isn't so much a headache as it is a criteria based on opinions.

From: SERBIANSHARK
11-Dec-08
Is it possible to ace two btc's in a row...lol

From: x-man
11-Dec-08
I just hope Pat didn't actually aim at "C", because thats' not the correct aiming point. It may be the best of the four, but not ideal for sure.

From: chief400

I'll agree with an ache, but head aint' where I was thinking.....

I got #1 OK

#2 was a trick question..Pat ALWAYS gets me on them....As we used to say on tests in the Navy---RTFQ...read the er...um...FULL question...

#3--sorry, I disagree on this one...I think B is the right answer. C may be the "right place" but B gives you more margin for error if your shot is deflected (HINT--LIKE THE ONE JUST BEFORE THIS ONE!!!!) OR the deer moves.

#4--refer to #2. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I got 9 points.

BTW--you've got some great kids! Thanks for sharing your family time with us.

Question 5 just ain't right!!!

Dohhhhhh!

From: ELFKING
12-Dec-08
this is stupid. The question about how long you wait is not always 6 hours. I have had deer lay down in plain sight; in easy range after a gut hit. Why not shoot again? There are tons of other situations that lead to not waiting; including heavy snow falling; seeing the deer in a spot where a stalk can be easy to make- coyote presence- and really; in this case the deer was not shot- so the last answer is correct based on its wording.

What is gained by us by the trickery of Pats questions when it relates to bloodtrails?

OK his daughter is cute as a button- and it was fun to see her reaction and stuff... but did this interactive bloodtrail serve us in any way? Not yet.

my score may suck... this interactive blood trail sucks even more.

I hear cackling laughter coming up from the bowels of Pat's dungeon...

It's a game. If you cheat you get what you deserve, nothin'. If you win it's worth every penny.

ok I officially suck!!! I guess I don't know my blood splatter pattern.

I guess I"m lucky all my animals I've shot have been found following the blood trail since I can't follow a splatter pattern.

Whew! 6 is at least easy. I could read the splatter easy enough, but hard for me to think the deer could go very far squirting like that.

Ok I got clue 7 correct and luckily I am at work I completely shutdown the network trying to expand this picture to find it??? Just Joking. But I did need to save the picture and blow it up to make sure. You could definatly see where the deer had run but to see it was hard.

Well, there went that, these things are hell on a guy that's color blind in red and green .... :)

#7 is driving me crazy, i think I'm going to go blind if I try to look any harder. Relaxing my vision doesn't help either. I can see the trail but no dang deer!!

From: piton
15-Dec-08
OK, I couldn't take it anymore so I guessed and got it wrong. Then, I read the correct answer and went back and STILL cant see the deer. I think you're going to have to put a arrow on this picture pointing to the deer for me to see it Pat (seriously, I'd love to see that deer). Did you burry it in the leafs? All the images look the same to me.

After #5 it became dumb... Changing colors? Great learning device? Come on.

If i had listened to my inner voice I may have had one wrong but I wouldn't have missed question 1. The shot is a little low for my taste but still the best of the options. Better luck next time. Bob

Thanks for the challenge Pat, that is amazing that that shot didn't get the stomach, not saying I don't believe you in the least, just find it amazing and unlikely. Maybe she has a REALLY small stomach. I would love for someone to PM me a picture of the deer in the woods with a arrow pointing to it because for the life of me, I cant see it.
