Hunting Myth Debunked: Where Was "Hogzilla" Shot? What a monster! This wild boar, claimed to be 1,800-pounds, was shot and killed in northern Louisiana.
Supposedly.
Rumors about this humongous hog swirled across the Internet, generating more questions than the Inquisition. Is the hog real? Did it actually weigh 1,800 pounds? Was the picture altered? Was it really shot in Louisiana?
Yes, maybe, no, and no—in that order—appear to be the answers. "It's suspicious that you don't see the guy's body and his head just pops out above the hog," said North American Hunter Art Director Carrie Lapka. "But overall, it doesn't appear to be Photoshopped. The way to fake this would be to have a regular-sized hog and enlarge the image in Photoshop. But all the hair along the hog's back appears perfect, and to enlarge the hog and digitally alter the hair so perfectly would take an immense amount of hours."
"Also, the shadows look proportional and the patterns of the grass around the hog seem correct."
As for location, it looks likes "Hogzilla" was harvested in the country of Turkey. Online forums point to Nature Tour, a 23-year-old hunting organization in Turkey, with multiple photos of the hog.
