If i am lucky enough to get a bear this year, what might it cost me to get one mounted>
Full body Half body Rug? i know prices do vary but a general idea would be great!
100.oo a ft for full body sounds right try looking it upon a few taxidermy web sites
My guess would be more $1200-$1500 full mount,, $125ft for a rug
3 years ago, 7 footer - rug - $1100. that included the skull cleaned and bleached. Did a good job, i think that is why i missed a bigger one the next year though....
Here in MI for a very good taxidermist -
Shoulder Mount $475 Full Body Mount $1150- $1550, depending on weight and size. Half Body Mount $850- $1250 *depending on weight and size. Rug $145 per ln ft Hide Tanning $65 per ln Ft Skull $85+ (depending on cleaning technique desired)
I think I paid $1800 for mine in 2006, plus I had extra costs in the base. If I remeber right, it was over a grand to do a rug. Another $150 to get have the skull beetle cleaned.
I paid $250 for the head mount plus $100 for the rest of the hide to be tanned. this was over 6 ft. bear.
This one cost $400. Again it's slightly over 6 ft. You can find good work for low cost from hobby taxidermists...you just will want to see their work first.
I paid $2K for this full body mount and it turned out great. My regular taxidermist mounted it and when I checked around, he was $500-$1,000 less than others.
Bear made P&Y by an inch. Picture doesn't quite do it justice, I need to take some better pictures of the mount.
Sons bear is at the taxidermist now for a 1/2 life size with a base. Costing $1,600. Had quotes as low as $1100 but went with the better quality guy. You really get what you pay for in taxidermy work. It may look good the first year or so but look at 5 year mounts and see how they look.
6' bear, oak base and habitat was $2400 here in NY
Great! thanks for the info
6'9" Black Bear, Full Body mount with oak base - $2500.00 in Montana. Some will do it cheaper but you get what you pay for. I have seen their mounts (YUK)
Mount N' High Taxidermy here in Colorado Springs did my last bear rug (6' 6" bear) for $750 double felted.
My other bear I had a half-lifesize done (was charged $800 from my usual guy with no base done) which was also a super deal. I didn't rug that bear because he sends them out for rugging (he does headwork) and his quote was $1200.
Like any taxidermy work, check out their stuff before you obligate anything.
I'd also be happier to spend to much on a great mount than to get something back I was not happy with.
my rug in 03 for a 6 1/2 ft bear ran 700 my shoulder mount in 07 ran 900
Just stopped in a taxidermy shop yesterday in Cuba ,Mo Big Tines is right on the money
HOLY CRAP!!!! You guys pay way too much for your mounts!!! I had a 6' bear lifesize mounted for $925 including the base that has a rock, stump and looks like natural dirt.I could have had the mouth open and it would not have been extra I just don't like the look,I wanted my bear to look like a bear walking through the woods, not a rabid dog.It would have been $125 cheaper for a rug. My taxidermist is really good and has been in buisness for 35 years he only takes previous customers and you might have to wait but he's worth it.I have an elk being mounted right now and it's $600.I know out west they are $1200 plus
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!!!!
I think we paid right at $1250 for the life size mount of my wife's first bear from Jemseg NB -- we paid $1750 for our 'cave mount' with 2 1/2 size bears peering from a cave. We used Dale Robinson, Tratton Run Taxidermy from SE New brunswick. Here's the full body, I'll post the cave mount after this:
This is a pic of the Cave Mount we had done of the bears we took in Jemset in 07. Dale Robinson did the work. I took the pics about 10 minutes after we off loaded it from the delivery truck and a day or so before we relocated it to the trophy room. If you're hunting in NB you may want to give him a call.
