Matt's Iowa Buck, 11/4/12
Whitetail Deer

Well the "Rut is On"! SE Iowa in November. Hmmm! I am videoing Matt on this hunt. Hunting the same 300 acre farm I hunted in 2006 and 2009.
This farm has a 150 minimum so Matt has passed a few good bucks the first three days.
Day 4: AM hunt we have a doe come in with a small buck pushing her and they go right under the stand. 30 minutes later this guy walks by at 15 yards and Matt drills him. These next three pictures are stills from the video!
Third frame. Dead deer walking, I mean running! LOL
The buck went 100 yards and piled up in sight. What a hoot and holler we had. It is "magic time"!
Another angle! Typical 6x6 with an abnormal on each side!
GreatBuck!!!! lots of character..
The Muzzy Phanton (2 blade) was sticking out the opposite side as he ran away and absolutely hammered his opposite shoulder. The arrow went thru his heart and he still went 100 yards. Big deer need to be hit hard!
and with a recurve!!!!! didn't notice that at first..great job.. what bow is that?
Congrats Matt! Awesome deer!
We go out this PM to try to fill Matt's doe tag then tomorrow AM I drop him off at the Kansas City airport so he can get back to work and then I will hang around Kansas for a while:)
If anyone is interested in hunting archery only farms in SE Iowa with Todd send me a PM. He only takes about 8 max per year and the minimum is 150. Hope you enjoyed this little thread and good luck to everyone. Hunting with and filming Matt on this hunt was a dream come true and a memory for life!!! So blessed! C
PS: Standswittaknife: Longbow!!
awesome footage and congrats to your son. Thank you for sharing and the info... That is one heck of a buck, that will take some time to score... Please let us know what he does score...
Great buck Matt! Well done!
Great buck and with the curve! Congratulations!
Wohooooooooo....Way to go Matt! Great deer! Charlie, those stills are great footage!
Mark

Awesome job Matt! Great job on video, Charlie. Very cool.
Scott
Very nice Matt, heck of a deer and using the Longbow makes it twice as nice! Hope to see the footage someday!
Way to get it done!! Congrats Matt!!
Charlie, see you at Little Toledo, let me know what night you'er coming I'll cook!!
Awesme pics! congrats on a great buck
Dandy buck, great pics! Congrats!
Wow, congrats Matt on an awesome deer!
Congrats guys! I am jealous!
That's the way to do it !!!! Congrats Matt n Pop
Happy to see all that time at the range has paid off! What a shot!!!! Typically for a hit like that I give the deer about 4 to 5............ Minutes before the track. Congrats to Matt and Charlie.
stands.. I had to comment on the "and with a recurve....!" Why does that suprise you? hUNDREDS (maybe more) OF DEER AND other BIG GAME ANIMALS are taken every year with recurves and longbows !!!!!!!!!!!! I and many of my old farts gang have been doing it for over 50 years !!!!! Long before compounds!
Thanks guys! I've been blessed once again to share time with an incredible deer that will be with me forever. It's been a good two week run hunting some of the best deer ground I have ever seen. It's been a long wait to get here for this eastern boy to see such wonderful deer habitat. This was a big accomplishment for me to do this with my bow on video, all I can say is the guy behind the camera is the best whitetail hunter I know. Wish you all the best during the greatest time of the year......
BIG BUCK and THE STICK. ---Great combo.
Congrats, and thanks for sharing. Almost makes me want to purchase anohter tag so I can be out there again.
Paul
Well Done!
As good a shot as any I've seen!
Outstanding result

Was just happy to see that a trad bow was used, not surprised at all. The ole man and I went of Africa a couple years ago and he took his Fred Bear TD only and killed everything near him. Grew up around Trad Bows and am always happy to see a good harvest with one.. I like shooting both and don't want to steal Matt's thread. Was just happy for him...
Nice buck! way to get it done.
Rick M
What a beauty Matt! Glad to see you are having so much success with the recurve. What bow are you shooting? You shooting split finger or three under? You keep doing stuff like that and you will have Pat dusting off his stick bows!
Matt - congrats on a fantastic buck. You're dad did a pretty good job with the camera too. ;?) Thank goodness Iowa doesn't have bogs like NF. :)
Nice one Matt. Tell 2 treestands I said HI. I am a friend of his.
Mark. AKA " Deer Tick"
Awesome buck Matt !! Nice shot as well. Iowa is indeed a special place.
Scott Alberda
Awesome deer and good shot Matt.
Funny so many of you guys keep calling his bow a recurve. Its a longbow, a R/D one yes, but a longbow.
Best wishes to your time in Kansas Charlie.
Congrats on a great buck, Matt. He is a brute !!
Good luck with you hunt Charlie !!
Tim
WOW!! Out-freakin' standing!!
Congratulations to you both.
I started the whole recurve thing.. It was my mistake.. Saw it was a hybrid as soon as I hit submit and was hoping no one would actually read it:)
Way to go Matt and Charlie!!! The team gets it done again!!
And THAT is for the naysayers on the moose trip!! Darn right - put it through the boiler room baby!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding... that photo sequence is so cool. Congrats. Ed F
Thanks for all your comments guys. As you can tell we love to hunt big midwest whitetails more than anything else. It matters not the exact kind of bow Matt used but that we did this together. We won't always have these special times so we cherish each day afield. If success happened all the time we would get bored but that is why we bow hunt. Choose your personal level of "challenge" and just do it! Pat: The deer's (green) gross score is 165 1/8 plus there is 7 2/8 abnormal points (total 172 3/8). The final (net) score is 153 6/8. The Iowa deer have huge bodies and the tarsal gland smell this time of year is magic:)
Hmmm, I thought traditional gear required more focus than compounds... How the heck do you manage
any focus with that critter at 15 yards? :)
Impressive work.
Great job guys! Congrats!
Very impressive deer and a great shot.
Well done, boys! We've come to expect this when the this team hits the woods! Semi live nxt year?
