I always start with wrapping the base to protect it from scratches,plaster,paint,ect... I use a 4x8 sheet of cast rock and cut into small pieces. I screw them back together to the shape I want.

This is truly an amazing thread. I dont think most ever realize how much work you put into a mount, and I will never again complain about a taxidermist bill. Roughly how many hours do you think you have into the total mount, base included?
thanks for posting this!

Thanks guys. Gene, the ice is an epoxy resin cast you can heat and shape. I use a few different bonding agents to attach. I mix with a fiber to get the white thick ice look around the top where it meets the rock.
