Its getting to be that time of the year again. All weapons aloud, lets see how many we can get this year. Last spring had a slow start but we still managed around 130, hopefully we can top that this year!
I went up to bait last week end in Quebec..still a bit of snow in some locations.
This kid started shooting last year in a youth archery night we hold every Monday night. He liked it enough to buy his own bow and really got practicing. Bought his first bear tag this spring and took this neat bear with his younger brother in the stand with him. Not the biggest bear in the world but it's his first ever bow kill! Congrats BJ on getting your first!!
Pretty bear. Hope you bear hunters much success. Keep us entertained for a while!!
Pretty cool Gumby! Tell the young man congrats.
Now that is a trophy he will always remember.
Beautiful bear for a first bow kill!
Nice bear and NO bear will eat better. I'm jealous!
That's a purdy one ! Tell the young man 2 thumbs up !!!!
Congrats to BJ. He is officially a bowhunter now !!! Will probably be his most memorable hunt ever.
Kudos on the first bear! Outstanding!
Beautiful bear but he needs to smile a little more!:)
Tell the young man congrats! Awesome cinnamon bear.
Time to see some posts here, let's go! Heading to NB in 9 days.....
With this weekends forecast in Manitoba I am predicting some new bear kill posts to pop up!
I'm off to Bear Track Saturday!
Daryl Schnelten and Andrea Hulke from Illinois with Daryl's nice SK chocolate boar.
Steven, you will have a blast with Ron.
Nice bear RJ, you must have a really good photographer!
Nice bear David!!!! I wouldn't be able to pass that brute - especially with the color! Nice work.
That's a real nice trophy Rattlingjunkie!! Congratulations.
Those color phase are killing me.
A late spring in Quebec for the second year in a row had bear movement slower than normal but two friends were able to connect on a DIY hunt.
Last Wednesday with Ron Dare and Bear Track outfitters.
Manitoba 6'9. Passed him the first night but couldn't resist the second.
Carcus, the photographer is old and seasoned, so he knew what he was doing.
I tried resizing this picture but to no avail, hence the deleted posts.
Nice work with the recurve, Bushbow!
Nice bears so far, everyone, and congrats.
Nice bear Bushbow! Hope we do as well this week!
6 bears so they are starting to show up.
Just to know what we are shooting for on this thread
in 2011 we had 126
in 2012 we had 158
in 2013 we had 131
only counting different bears, not mulitple photos of same animal. Have been counting bears taken with any weapon.
OUTFITTERS ARE WELCOME TO COME ON AND POST PHOTOS OF ALL THE BEARS KILLED IN THIER CAMPS AND WE WILL COUNT THOSE.
Let's get 160 by the end of the fall season !!!!!!!
My first bear after 5 tries! Got this one near riding Mountain park in Manitoba.

My buddy put this guy down for a dirt nap ... 20 yard shot 50 yard recovery.
Nice scars on face and ignore the bloody nose I am usually good at cleaning up for pics and I missed that .. My bad
And I have no idea why the double post and the pic came on sideways ... Not having a good day .. I better have a drink
Not a monster, but a decent Idaho bear all DIY.
Here's Top Pin's photo turned.
Quebec, Eh!
La Griffe d'Ours. Yvon and Philippe do it right!
Last minute British Columbia hunt worked out.
Nice job guys, looking good.
Thanks BB .... I sent it off my phone not sure how that happened. So I had a beer to think it over .... Yep still couldn't figure it out but damn was that beer good.
Charlie, I know you've been getting into photography the past few years, let's see some better pictures instead of that teaser!
I'm going nuts....waiting....to climb into a stand. Hopefully this weekend I can scratch an itch!
365! That's a giant! Congrats to all you guys out there getting it done.
365, that is a beast of a bear and a fantastic trophy pic! The huge, moss covered dead fall made a great back drop.
I got this one on May 23rd in northern SK. 320# ; 32 1/2" neck
Nice bears guys, 18 so far!
Is the success thread behind last year ?
Im pretty sure were ahead of last year, last spring was also very late.
After not letting an arrow fly this year I really cant wait to be back in Manitoba next spring, But you never know my tag is still good for Fall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Set the bait last Sunday, came back yesterday and caught a giant King Salmon after seeing this bear on camera. First sit of the year, Copper River Alaska. Couldn't be happier.
Just for you Writer! 5th cast!
Nick, nice bear. Where did you end up hunting on the copper?
Nice Bear Jason, way to go.
Carcus, great bear!
Julius, I ended up hunting right across from that gravel bar in the photo.... haha
Outstanding, Nick! Great pics!
Never fails, a dead animal and a Nick Muche smile:) Congrats to all you guys.
Carcus that bear is thick! Congrats, once again, on another bear of a life time.
Carcus that bear is thick! Congrats, once again, on another bear of a life time.
Nice bears guys ....ESP losshillarcher ....that bear is a beast and I will be the first to ask what is up with the lump
Carcus, you do kill some monsters. WOW!
loesshill, No doubt that's an AK bear! Congrats!
Abscess im guessing that he was rubbing cause it itched from infection. Nice bear congrats
It appeared to be a lipoma upon disection. Fatty tissue inside a well defined lump. The skin lays down pretty normal afterwards. I was wondering if it was a result of fighting, but I don't think so. He had some scars on his nose but the lump didn't appear to be a spot that was healing from a wound. Alaska for sure
Rumor has it he was wrestling the bear for the last donut in the barrel and the bear hit its head on a tree?? CONGRATS NEDLY!!!!!!!!!! That is a great bear. What is the skull size on that beast?
It is not a booner. When I shot I was hoping for that. Oh well. Not that important to me. He was on his hind feet in the middle of a "meadow" when I first saw him. He was marking a solitary tree that was out there. He dropped to the ground and came right to me. Lucky. He was walking like a silverback and it got me really excited.
Here is a big second bear from the hunter above who shot the chocolate bear. It had a big white patch on his chest. I donated a hunt to a soldier from Freedom Hunters who is in camp now and I will post a picture of how he did later. Jack
Spot and stalk Alberta bear from 5/19
Took this nice bear at last light last night with Lloyd Gates. Another buddy also got one. 2 for 4 fist night. I saw a lot of bears. Mathews Creed, Easton FMJ arrows, Rage broadhead for first time. Bear went 30 yes. Lots of blood. 15 yd shot.
Goat Guide's Link
Allen from Freedom Hunters first bear.
And his second bear. Probably the biggest body of the season. We saw 66 bears during there hunt. Jack
Another angle of his second bear.
Wednesday night and all hunters tagged out. My buddy Caribou Woo took a nice boar tonight. And the fishing was great on the St. John's River.
Messing with some camera filters. Took this one right after flying in from back east...
Some great trophy pics, Goat Guide.
28 to date.
Bring on more.
Another one for the count. Details on Big Blond Taken thread.
Shot a beautiful chocolate with Outland Outfitters and my guide Jody Patterson in Manitoba. Shot him from the ground on a 15yd frontal shot with 15yd recovery when he came in and wouldn't even let us get the bait out. Saw lots of bears, but this one was special with the way it went down. Great hunt, great food and a great time!
My wife and I shot these good bears on May 22 in Northern Manitoba. Her bear was 65" nose to base of tail, 48" girth, 5 1/8" front pads. My bear was 66" nose to base of tail, 46" girth and 4 7/8" front pads. She shot hers with her hoyt and 100 gr. VPA's, dead under 20 yds and no death moan. My hoyt and 125 gr VPA's did the job in about 25 yds and no death moan either. Both broadheads have been touched up and await deer season. No score on the skulls yet.
First Ontario Spring hunt in 15 years! Hopefully in a couple of years the government will finally make the right decision and it will be opened for everyone. Took this 18.5" boar in Thunder Bay area. Unfortunately hide was no good as worst case of Wood Ticks I have ever seen.
My two bears with Eagle Eye Outfitting
My wife shot this one last night.
Lone Eagle- you are my hero. Way to go. That is one big bear.
Spot and stalk .... the 16th Bear we sighted on Dan's hunt.
Eli connected on the 11th Bear we got on ....
Pretty weak Bou....
I'll add another just in case!
Just finishing up my trip to South Bay outfitters in Sk and I couldn't be happier, we took 3 nice bears 6'9, 6'6 and my 6' cinnamon.
Jersey, nice bears!!!! Did you score any of them?
Thanks the 6'9 scored 19 1/2 ( picture by its self) and the black in the pic above was 6'6 but only scored 17 5/8, it had a long but narrow skull. My colored bear was smaller at 5'11" and I didn't bother with the score. The measurements were all from nose to base of the tail. I have been in a good number of bear camps and this place is very high on my list for great bears. Each hunter saw many mature boars and I passed up a great boar in the 6'6 range. I also got to see 3 different color bears while on stand.
Jersey, very nice looking bears. They look hugh in the photos. Congratulations!!!
My sons first bear - first night out. Small boar, but a very happy hunter. Bear Track, Manitoba.
My First Black Bear with Eagle Eye Outfitters
MM - what did the skull measure on your first bear? He is a dandy.
SteveB that's a good looking Bear! What bait was he on?
MM - what did the skull measure on your first bear? He is a dandy.
Right at 21, so will probably just miss book
21" should be about 3" more than the minimum :)
British Columbia. May 29. Spot and Stalk. 42 yard shot.
My Outfitter was Hunt BC. I saw over 30 Black Bears and 7 Grizzlies.
Canadian girls successful with 2 bears this weekend in New Brunswick. All first time hunters, one with rifle one with crossbow.
June 4, 2014, hunting with Lloyd Gates. Lloyd runs a great bear camp, with lots of nice bears! Berks and I had a blast.
Eddie Bauer: its smaller than the picture looks but he was still very happy. It was at a River bait and for the life of me I can't recall the name. It was east of Frenchman. 45 min after we got in the stand.
Nice bears everyone many fond memories.
Northern Manitoba. First bow bear.
Northern Manitoba. First bow bear.

Conrad wasted no time taking these two great bears in the first two days.
Hello from Ontario Canada! We are in the midst of the first step (hopefully) of getting back our Spring Bear Hunt. The "Trial" introduced this year is in progress. I was in NB hunting near Jemseg last week and came home empty handed, waiting for the big one. Very happy as I had a lot of action, just not the one I wanted AND I will go back in the Fall as my tag is still good. I returned to Ontario for our annual do it yourself hunt with a good friend, but not in the Spring, not our usual Fall hunt. My first night out a sow and two cubs of the year came in for some neat bear watching. A bit later a decent bear came in and did not offer a shot. Just before the end of shooting, a different bear, about 150 lb boar came in and I just had to take him. This is a very special bear for me. Now I am just staying at my buddy's helping him and his girlfriend get their bears. She had one bear come in the first night but was not offered a shot. We were rained out last night, but things look great for this evening. best regards and hope to see you folks from down South, start to come back up here in the Spring some day. While not in the guiding business ourselves, my buddy and I hope to see our Ontario Outfitters get back in to Spring Hunts for non residents. This will be a HUGE victory against the antis. How many jurisdictions are every successful in getting a hunt restored? All the best from Canada, Canuck! Oh, the bugs are insane up here this Spring!!!!
OOPS typo above, I typed:
"I returned to Ontario for our annual do it yourself hunt with a good friend, but not in the Spring, not our usual Fall hunt."
Should have read:
I returned to Ontario for our annual do it yourself hunt with a good friend, but IN THE SPRING, not our usual Fall hunt.
Just wanted to get this right! thanks for your patience! Canuck
Charlie, In your desription for for to add "takes a dump while climbing the tree"
NW Montana, DIY on NF. First trip hunting bear, obviously my first bear (rifle kill)
Deluxe backcountry hunting camp complete with bear skin rug!
IDAHO using Boarmasters attractants, works every time. In a groundblind 20 yard shot 19 yard recovery..DIY
280# Boar Black Paw Outfitters, New Brunswick
Two more taken this week in Quebec I took a 170# sow....no pics and my cousin came up from Florida and took a pretty good one.300# 18 1/2"
very old bear...busted canine. ..no upper incissors....
That's a pretty wild video Charlie, that is why it is so much fun hunting bears. Never know what you are going to see.
Not the biggest Bear I saw but I really wanted a color phase so this Bear was perfect.
56
and good job on that ontario bear harold.
i don't think he will be your last one of the year. in fact no way it will be!
Whip nice bear, love the color. Good looking bow too.
thanks Bou! Here is a really important addition! When I went back to Ontario from New Brunswick for our Ontario "Trial Hunt" I hunted with two very good friends. My best bud Steve and his special lady Hilary. Hilary is a new bow hunter, that is insanely into bow hunting. She baited our sights alone, when we couldn't be there. It was in a really scary area where we bait in Ontario. We are do it your selfer's completely. This is the very first arrow that Hilary let loose on an animal with a bow! The bugs were crazy AND the night before we put her in charge on tracking my bear (which she found). Her bear died within sight.
I was blessed with this great bear this year, could not be happier.
Thats a great bear Skinner, congrats. Where was he taken?
That;s a beauty Darryl did you get him along the hills?
Charlie, you and Bushbow should share your stories. He did the very same at our camp this spring!
Charlie, great video! Congrats. Is that a bow mounted video camera?
congrats to all the successful hunters.Loved the video. Brent
This is my spring bear from northern Alberta. 6'3" nose to tail, 7' wing span across fronts and weighing in around that 330lbs mark
You weighed him? Nice! 330 is a HUGE spring bear. That's once in a lifetime right there.
Sorry Nick, good catch there on my fat fingers 230lbs
A few Bowsiters from our camp this year.
Bear Track's Link
This past Thursday, our hunters shot 2 Boone and Crockette bears, the biggest being the first one I posted at 21 8/16 and this last one at 21 4/16. The biggest was the young man's first bear!
Great looking bears everyone some real dandys. I don't understand the hair styling on a few of them. A natural crease is awesome, a made crease looks staged.
I love those man made creases! Makes those 5 footers look huge!lol. Awesome bears Ron, if I were booking a bear hunt your outfit would be at the top of my list!
Those are some great bears Ron! Thanks for sharing.
6'5" beautiful Chocolate. I was truly blessed to be in the right place at the right time when he came by. 6 yard shot, centered the heart and a 22 yard recovery.
Tall Tines Longbow and Motor City Machete arrows.
Wow Ron - nice bears!! The gal looks like she took that Brown bear on the lake/river?? Any more bears come from the new property or the stand I broke in? I am curious what the BIG one coming to that bait looked like.
Thanks again for a great week and awesome hunt.
Bob
We shot a couple nice ones in that new area Bob. Then we set 2 more sites to use there next year. That cinnamon came from Bear Creek.
that last post deserves some details man!
Wow! With a recurve to boot! Awesome Nick!
Not my bear but...still awesome.
We call this the 29 hour, no sleep, 545 miles in the vehicle, 40 miles on a boat, bear :)
He shot it at 13 yards, it went 40.
I've never been real in awe when walking up to dead bears, mainly because ive shot only small to average ones and they always look bigger alive. This one...blew me out of the water. They are amazing animals. I hope to get one next year when I legally can begin hunting them.
this is posted with permission of another hunter who took the monster in new brunswick with mark dejong at 13 yards. 546 pounds and the skull well beyond 21.
Holy smokes that is a stud of a bear. Congrats to the hunter and his guide Taz. Awesome!
loesshillsarcher
I would tell everyone that the arrow didnt kill it at first. You had to punch him in the head to finish him off
super animal!
That one has everybody beat for weight this year I think, a crackerjack nice bear congrates.
I was with TAZ the week before and he had that monster on the game cam. The very best congrats to the successful hunter. I believe he and his two buddies all scored with TAZ that week. I passed on lots of smaller ones on my week and am going back in the fall to try again. Would be glad to take one like the above but will settle for a personal best (which should leave a lot of bears very nervous!!!:)
No 1 was about 19 4/16ths
No 2 was about 20 3/16ths
70 so far this year and a year ago this date it was 48.
keep it up and we will top last years 131 and the record set in 2012 of 158.
We need some outfitters to move their photos over here to run the count up!
My buddy Taylor's first bear. He helped out a lot this spring with setting baits, very proud of him.
Manitoba 7'4". 8 yards on the ground.
73
Things are slowing down. We need some outfitters to come on and throw down the gauntlet and post multiple bears from their camp this spring. BRING THEM ON GUYS!
My bear shot 6/20 with Dave over at TSI in New Brunswick. No accurate live weight, but estimated to be somewhere around 300#. Green score of the skull goes just shy of 19"
Weighed 257#, squared right at 7', and 18 12/16" head. Shot in NB with a Stalker Coyote 61# longbow and Snuffer head.
My bear from a hunt in New Brunswick Canada with TSI. Shot with a homemade recurve and snuffer broadhead.

I have no hero picture to post, but due to the dedication of my outfitter, Dave was able to find my bear after I had to come home. He stated that it was pretty nasty but he salvaged the skull for me. It is being cleaned for me. So add me to the list of successful ( but delayed) bear hunters.
Here's my bear.june 16 ,it dressed out at 265 pounds.
Dr. Dave Samuels couldn't turn down this good looking chocolate bear.
Dr. Dave's buddy John Daniels shot a howard Hill longbow for 50+ years but had to recently switch to a compound for health reasons. He got the job done on this SK bruin. It was cool to have a couple guys in camp with well over 100 years of combined bowhunting experience.
Ricky Burnett's first bear hunt won't be his last - like the rest of us he is now addicted.
103 including the one found but not photoed at TSI.
Mike Ritter's hunt lasted a whole 20 minutes before he dropped this black one.
Scott Vyvlecka's bear went less than 12 feet after his arrow went through it. I heard him shoot as I was walking in to the bait and I thought at first this bear was sleeping beside the bait; 2 other smaller bears were standing nearby looking at it laying there.
Shannon and Perri Wheeler dropped their bears at the same bait.
Bowsiter Matt Quick made his 4th consecutive trip to SK and dropped this bruin with a perfect shot.
Cool bears and beautiful coats Rob, Matts looks like a BRUISER!
Rob it looks like you and your hunters had a great season. Did you guys take any B & C bears?
We hunted with Bear Track June 8th-13th. I got a good one after just a 4 hr. hunt. My son-in-law shot one that green scored 21 4/16 and another hunter in camp got one that scored 21 8/16.
Getting excited for the fall hunt to start love this three generation picture had to post it.2014 spring.
