I am looking at getting Morgan a Polaris RZR side by side very soon.
As most of you know she is a cancer survivor and has very limited use of her right arm.
I have been looking at them for about a month now and I am debating on getting her the 570 or an 800. I am leaning towards the 800 myself simply because if we need the extra muscle it will be there?
For those of you who know these pretty well please tell me the pro's and con's between the two other than Hp obviously?
We have pretty steep terrain but there is nothing straight up and down that she would be climbing anyway!
Looking for your all's feedback????
I have a 2 year old 800 that I bought used with a 100 miles on it from an older gentleman that used it on two BC moose hunts and got tired of it taking up garage space and having to park his sports car outside. The price was 40% off of what the 2014 new price was back in March this year when I bought it. It is optioned out nicely, runs flawlessly and I have used it a lot this spring and summer. Great unit to run around the logging roads here and check where the spring black bears are at.
I was planning to get a new 570 when the used one popped up. Note that Bigdan likes the 570 for what he was doing in Montana.
They both are loud.....see the thread on quieting an ATV on here.
Either will do what you want. Test them both out, and go to the RZR Forum and read about them to your hearts content.
Also I will be buying a used RZR I learned a long time ago to let someone else eat the depreciation.
BigDan - excellent job on those rack additions
The area is vast so we were bringing 4 wheelers. One guy wanted to bring a Razor but due to limited space on the trailer he decided to bring a 4 wheeler.
It was good that he brought the 4 wheeler; because several places the 4 wheeler barly fit. We had to lay flat on the gas tanks to fit under tree's and limbs that constantly crossed the trails.
You mentioned the limited use of Morgan's right arm. The power steering, if available, might be something to consider as well.
Also, GREAT to hear she is doing well too!!!
I added a rear rack for more carrying capacity. The engine runs really hot, so be careful about what rests directly in the bed. The rack from Hornet was what I chose (http://www.hornetoutdoors.com/). These guys are bow hunters as well and the rack is rugged and uses the Lock and Ride system so it takes a couple of minutes to add/remove.
It will fit in a full size truck bed, but unfortunately I gave a retractable hard cover, so I had to opt for the trailer. Less that ideal for driving in to hunt, but easier in the end (for me) as it leaves the truck bed open to haul coolers etc ...
As I see it the biggest advantage of an ATV is the depth of water you can cross easily. Polaris states 8". I also know guys that don't have a snorkel that claim they have no concerns until their armpits get wet. I'd rather not hunt sopping wet all day ... so I've not really tested anything past 8" thus far ... but due to a good snow year, might be come September! M
My .02
She has full function of her right arm from the elbow down but not at the shoulder. So she is very limited on how high she can raise her right arm.
She gets very frustrated but as I told her they wanted to amputate her arm within 3 days. She is very lucky to have what she has.
Has anyone hauled a deer in theirs yet? I know she is dying to throw a deer in the back of one LOL.
Reasoning for 570
1. Morgan doesnt have any business in a off road vehicle that can do 80MPH
2. 570 has engine braking
3. 570 is a lighter vehicle
4. 570 vs. ACE she can take a friend and her right arm is more protected in a side by side vs. ACE.
5. Morgan doesnt need a off road vehicle that will do 80MPH.
6. It should easily last her 10-15 years.
7. I can get a 570 with power steering which will help Morgan a great deal.
8. Morgan does not need a off road vehicle that can do 80MPH.
9. Difference between 55 MPH and 80 MPH can be broken bones or death!
#10 reason why she is getting a 570 EPS because SHE KICKED CANCER SQUARE IN THE ASS and also refer back to 1,8,& 9!!!!!
Kelly,
I think you are making a great choice. I know you said you were looking for a used one so just to mention if you do find a used one that doesn't have power steering from what I understand you can easily add it after market. I know that is what many guys do with the Rangers.
Also something to consider is getting the speedkey for Morgan. I am not sure if it is available on the RZR, but we got one with our 900 crew and our oldest rides it around the farm with the MAXIMUM speed of 25 MPH!!!
You guys that have RAZR's, do they have a tendency to backfire when you let off the gas????
Someone I know just bought a used 800 RAZR and at times when he lets off the gas it will backfire VERY loudly!
Not exactly something you want happening when using it for hunting purposes.
It makes me wonder if it has had engine work done. If it had, the dealer didn't mention it when he bought it.
I have yet to haul a critter out with my Rzr (I hope to in September). As I suggested previously, I'd suggest looking at some of the rear racks for this. Polaris states that the rear deck holds 150 lbs, which may or not be an issue for you ... but you will lots of guys melting gear due to engine heat. The route I went more than doubles the weight you can safely carry and gets meat off of the rear deck, but I can squeeze a pack and such in there.
The Rzr forums (http://www.rzrforums.net/) have been very helpful for me. Tons of additions / modifications out there.
I am pretty sure my dad will be buying a new UTV in a year or two and I am about 99% sure it will be a Ranger or something similiar.
I have actually been thinking of selling my motorcycle since I never ride it anymore and that should sell for about 75% of what a new 570 RZR EPS would go for. One of my best friends has a anniversary Road King with 3100 miles on it who told me I can ride it when ever I want and to just keep it at my house. LOL he is worth a couple Million and he really doesnt care!
With my dad wanting a more work horse than a sport side by side I think that will cover all the bases plus I have gotten around fine on my 700 vtwin ATV with geaqr and material on the hunting property.
I wish her birthday wasnt so late in the year it would have made a awesome bday gift for her.
If you get to central pa, I have a road king and an ultra classic that you can ride anytime. With two small kids it is becoming harder and harder to find time to ride. Plus with all the motorcycle accidents happening around here this summer, it has me rethinking some priorities. Mine may be in the classifieds before long as well.
Stay safe, keep the rubber side down and enjoy the rzr.
I talked to my B-I-L last night about the RAZR backfiring.... Turns out somebody had cut the exhaust manifold trying to make it a dual exhaust. When they couldn't get it to work, they tried to weld it back together. The weld had broken and that was causing it to backfire. New manifold and it no longer backfires!!!

Good luck, Robb
PS-Maybe a little top heavy when fully loaded???
