I was finishing the base on this elk today and thought I'd post a pic. Its a good way to mount a large elk with low ceilings. The total height is just short of 80".

This bull was shot last season in pa!

Nice mount! Pedestals certainly bring a lot of life back to a animal! although elk take up a lot of space a pedestal works pretty well where there are lower ceilings. If you have a basement you may need removeable antlers though! Jim

Very cool Dennis! How often do you do removable antlers?

Jims, Glad you pointed that out. Detachable are always talked about with the larger animals. I do lots of detachables when doors, hallways, ect... are an issue. When they fit no need to do detachables.

Step #1- Kill a big bull

Step #2- Have the elk mounted exactly like that one.

Currently I am stuck on step #1. Nice work!

I really like that mount! I had the same issue and went with a European mount. If I get lucky again I will do the shoulder mount down low, thanks for posting!

Here's my fix... Build an addition with 13' ceilings!

Same fix my taxidermist used. Luckily my picture window was easy to remove so we didn't have to do the removable antlers. It was still tough getting it attached to the pedestal with the low ceiling. It doesn't look like it in the picture but there is only an inch clearance to the ceiling.

You may also want to measure your ceiling height BEFORE finishing the mount/pedestal to make sure there is clearance!

Is take that mount under any ceiling Dennis, very nice indeed.

Mines just getting finished, it will be on a rock pedestal , just needs to be painted yet. Pretty excited to get him back!

Yep, I need an addition! Had to kick the bear rug and deer out to make room for the elk, LOL!

Here is an idea - front half with head down raking a small pine tree. Not so high but you'd better have floor space! Have to plan for that when you cape it out though...
