Nick, you live in a beautifully brutal...great scenery everywhere you look!
Well ... our fall season opens on Sept 1st. Since Bob got a nice buck a few days ago we were ready to get after a Bear. First we had to make a town run for important stuff ... more Beer and a bottle of Jager .. after getting back from town and having fresh backstrap off the BBQ we headed out.
We eased up a small feeder creek with some spawning Salmon. Fresh eaten fishes and wore down trails along the small creek. Moving into a hidey hole I have sat at before, we opened up a shooting lane. The no-see-ums were unforgiving.
After an hour as the light was turning we decided to ease up a little father. Toward the upper end I noticed a Bear loping away. He had made us. We slipped into a medium Muskeg and hunkered down behind a little cover.
I made the call a few times. Soon we all just felt something. To our left was a Bear that came out at 10 yards and closing in. I couldn't see Bob as we were in a line. The movement of pulling up the bow and me making another call stopped the Bear and he turned and walked slowly away. I made a call. He stops again and looks back. No shot. He slowly walks away again. I call. He turns broadside getting ready to step into the thick.
An arrow flies just to the left of my shoulder.
Bob makes the 16 yard shot count. The Bear bolts. Soon we hear the death moan. We wait, then move. Not 30 yards from point of impact the Bear lay.
Exciting ......
Very cool, grats guys, sounds like a great time
