The elk thread of what people have forgotten on a trip got me thinking. A lot of people referenced having a check list. could everyone share their check lists for an out of state elk hunt.

Same list as for my in-state hunts.

1. License and tags.

2. Weapons and "ammo". (Yes, I hunt with multiple weapons.) Game bags, coolers, plenty of ice blocks.

3. Season/weather appropriate clothing.

4. Backpack, knives, rope, fire, first aid, light with extra batteries, water bladder, two-way radios, etc.

5. Boots and shoes for any and all expectd terrains and conditions, including lazing about camp.

6. Shelter. (Trailer, tent tarp ... depending on where I'm going and how I'm getting there.)

7. Extra gas cans with gas, water cans with water, generator (if appropriate), chainsaw, tool kit for truck and trailer, extra spare tires (where I go there are no places to fix flats), plenty of bottled propane, etc.

8. Food, both for in camp and while on the trail or a night or two of bivy.

9. Whatever cast iron skillets and Dutch ovens I can squeeze in.

10. The sure knowledge that, in spite of all my planning, there will be something I missed. Along with that, the conviction that I can get by just fine.

Good raingear if coming to Wyoming. It is starting to suck with all the rain. Mountain roads are for 4 x 4 only it seems. Only two wheel drives I seen where stuck.

Good luck.

A towel for a shower if you go to town and a pillow for camp, two things I've forgotten to pack more than any other.

Good Luck!
