2014 meat pole
Whitetail Deer
Contributors to this thread:
Nebraska opened Sept 1st this year. Scored on this one Sept. 6th.
My son connected the next evening with this buck.
You guys are awesome! Congrats to both of you!
Right place right time, nice deer
Looks like you and your son are to another great start! Congrats you two!
That's awesome Beav, you guys are off to a great start. First the antelope and now the whitetails....wow!
Thanks! It has been a good start. Good thing our freezer was empty.
Congratulations! What a way to start the fall!!
Beav and family always getting it done! Very nice!
lucky dogs, makeing my mouth water
Way to Go! Congrats to both of you.
Golly gee Beav those are two nice bucks!
wow two awesome early season kills. Congrats to the NE men! Jersey opens tomorrow, gotta tag a doe first, hope to do so by 6:30 AM with a "drop in site" then sit it out a few more hours for a decent buck... Only problem with that, is then have to wait 7 weeks for my next buck tag.... Gotta take 'em when you see 'em though... I should be so lucky!
Wisconsin opened yesterday 9/13, a few buddy's and I hunted our new lease. Saturday morning I passed a young seven pointer at 12 yards. One buddy got skunked and the other made a great shot on his first archery buck, a young seven point different than the one I passed. After a short blood trail we found his buck. That afternoon my other buddy connected on a little better young 8 pnt. He said he wasn't sure on the shot but he just barely caught the second lung and he only went 50yds. The lease is looking promising with several p+y bucks on trail cam so I'm gonna be patient. Right now I'm in a blind behind my house trying to whack a doe. First pic is of my buddy's first archery buck
Well it worked out tonight, I've been watching this doe since June, she had no fawns and every time I had a pic of her or saw her in person she was with a 7 pointer. She seems very old and I thought she be a good one for the freezer. She was very wary and didn't give me shot for over an hour meanwhile the 7 pnt gave me all sorts of shots. All deboned and in the fridge.
Had this buck come by on my birthday. Never shot a velvet buck and couldn't resist. Watched him drop in sight.
Was shot in Nodak September 7th. Was out catfishing yesterday and and saw a buck still in velvet.
My cousin Luke and me with his opening day buck here in Wisconsin.
Our season in Nebraska opened on the 1st of September this year. After seeing this buck multiple times on camera my son and I prayed we would get a crack. Jayden got the chance and made it count. Proud dad.
9-18-2014

Frosty mornings are awesome. This buck made scrapes and rubbed trees all the way in.
My daughter, Grace shot this 2 yr old 8pt on the youth opener 9/27 here in Northern Indiana. Her first deer. So proud of her!!! Pete
You guys and gal shot some nice deer congrats.
Cheryl with a nice 8 point from our ranch. She shot him at 15 yards with her Longbow.
Way to go Cheryl.
Did Matt show up with the new trackin' dog to help with the recovery?
My 12 year old daughter Maddie with her first buck!
I think we've already seen that, Beav.
What' the deal,...you proud or something? :-)
Wyoming Sept 16. Hunt booked with Scott at Bow & Arrow Adventures. Intended to go after a muley, but couldn't pass this whitetail up first evening out!
Have taken 5 does so far here in PA. Great season so far. Hoping to see some bucks worth shooting soon.
Here is a doe so we can get this thing back to the top.
I was wondering where this thread went!?!? I'll play! I have a feeling a lot of deer will be added in the next few weeks! ;)
Dang Ben! That is an awesome deer!
Congrats! and a BIG Congrats to the daughters & Dads!!
Dad and I got these two deer on October 4th. His buck (the first he's killed since picking his bow up again) scored right at 155, 12 yard shot. My doe was 14 yards and she ran maybe 50. Both Nebraska deer.
Wow what a beautiful buck!! Pass on the big congrats!
I'll play. Became a Texas resident this year, didn't actually think I would get to hunt. I put in for a draw hunt and this is my first Whitetail deer (with a bow no less)got her opening morning first thing. I am a happy camper that I put meat in the freezer. The following morning in my same ground blind a huge 8pt came in behind me but I couldn't get a shot.
156" 10 point with extra stickers. Arrowed at 18 yards.
sdbowhunter awesome buck !
Doe I shot Friday with my "Sitka Hillbilly" pattern camo on... :)
Any ideas on why I can't seem to post my pic to the thread? Maybe the software on my I-phone 6?
Great deer everyone, hopefully I can post one soon!
October 20th. He was hitting scrapes.
Elk Elswhere great buck!!
Got this public land nine on Oct. 24 at 20 yds self filmed. I grossed him at 118. Second buck taken with a bow and ever.
Some brutes being killed this year - great job everyone.
I killed this one the morning of Oct 29, we'd been after him for 3 years so it was cool to finally connect on him.
Lots of great deer this year so far. The next 4 weeks they will really start piling in here. I haven't even hunted a single day this year...way too much work to do!
My 13 year old's biggest to date. Taken Oct. 3. in Kansas
Great deer all around. Some amazing bucks and some awesome kids getting out and getting it down. Great way to start out 2014. Proud of all. Finally getting some cooler weather here in Oklahoma so maybe the big ones will start showing up during daylight. Cant wait! Congrats to all
Yep congrats to all, nice to see they are all bow kills so far, gun kills on bowsite kinda bug me!
Here are two for you. Still waiting for a legal buck to follow one all the does I'm seeing.
Arrowed this one on 11/1here in central Ohio at last light. Wasn't totally sure of the hit so I left him overnight. Turned out it was a perfect double lung shot and the buck only made it 100 yards. Unfortunately the coyotes found him before I did. None of the meat was salvaged but still pleased to hang my tag on him. My buddies and I will be waging war on the local coyotes this winter. Best of luck to everyone!
Killed this Kansas buck Saturday morning, passed up first opportunity but when he came back to horns could not pass again. Good luck to all those still out there!
Tagged out in PA Saturday afternoon, rattled/grunted in 5 different bucks including this guy! I've had a hec of a season!
I was set up along the edge of a standing corn field when I arrowed this 5x5 on October 26th.
October 25th. Tried something new, he came into my buck decoy and I shot him from my ground blind. A first with the decoy and blind. it was awesome!!! Gross 194 1/4....
I was kneeling next to this corn field and he came down the 8th row over. Almost point blank range. It was a wonder the arrow made it through the corn stalks. Lucky day.
Congrats to all the other "lucky" hunters.
My best, Paul
My sons buck Pa 10/22/2014
First buck ever 11/01/2014 Minnesota.
Congrats everyone on great whities!!! I hope to add to this pole in December when I go to Oklahoma.
Assassin84 did you shoot that great buck in the neck?

Couple neat bucks in those last four. Congrats to all.

11/5 on my PA farm.
20 yd shot 20 yd recovery. My best bow buck to date. Was an awesome experience.
Shot this monster 5 on 11/7.
Just this morning's find. Not a monster, but unique. He had a rear leg injury from years ago, so I guess the antler suffered. Missouri Ozarks buck
WOW. Congrats to all. My favorite pic is SteveB's followed TMA101 & JW ... Hope to post something soon! Enjoy and be safe!
Killed this one on 11/5 in Lewis County, Kentucky. Walked in at first light, 20 yard shot. 100 grain Thunderhead through heart, went about 40 yards after shot. My third good buck from this area in three years, I've been very fortunate.
Shot this guy yesterday morning. Came in chasing a doe. Shot was at 12 yards, cedar arrow and Bear razor broadhead did the trick.
Connected on my best buck to date (by a large margin) on November 9 in Ohio. He was checking a scrape and came right to me just after daylight. Happy as can be!
Never mounted a buck....but this one will likely end up on the wall.
Some good bucks on this thread. Congrats to all.
Got my best buck to date on Sat. Nov. 8th. 15 yard shot, 200 yard recovery. He came to a grunt call. Bob Lee Classic, 29.5" Goldtip Traditional 7595, 50 gr. brass insert, 125 gr. Muzzy Phantom 4 blade head.
Awesome bucks everyone!!
Split. Nov. 8, 2014
Got mine Saturday night in Iowa. Chasing does around my stand for a couple of days now. I left him until morning and those dang coyotes found him too.
Gotr done this morning. One of the best whitetail kills I've had..total adrenaline rush. I've killed bigger but this hunt was just crazy
11-3 evening hunt on public land here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Buck was following a hot doe. 15 yard shot,50 yard recovery. Lungs liver hit. Ace Super Express head and a prototype habu longbow.
November 9th the day before the Manitoba firearm season opens, high pressure area, I had just arrived at my stand, pulled up my bow, nocked an arrow and heard something coming within seconds he was at 20 yards, he held up for 3 minutes, then was about to leave he turned and I killed him, 3 minute hunt, didn't even have my camo jacket on yet!lol
Blast from the past...1980..best bow kill buck at that time.
Filled my second Nebraska tag on Nov 7th. Congrats to all!
Congrats. to all the successful hunters.
Not sure who took that picture - mike/ky ....but if it was your hunting buddy you better buy him a beer! That is an Awesome picture!
Been a while since I made the pole - Texas hill country free range buck. Came right under my tripod feeding on acorns, let him feed out to about 10 yards and let the recurve do the rest.
This guy showed up on our cameras a lot this summer. I have always wanted to shoot a good buck on my birthday. Look who walks by one of our stands on my birthday. This year Ne changed there season to start on September 1st. But I was in Co elk hunting.
Here is another of him on the 12th under the same stand. I am still in Co elk hunting.
We got plenty of pics of this guy as well.
I have been hunting hard since Nov 1st. My first morning out I grunted a nice buck into 60 yards of me but he wasn't coming an inch closer. Well that same buck ends up at 200 yards from me on the morning of Nov 4th. I begin grunting at him. He hangs up for a while at 95 yards.
Here is at 95 yards.
I have the decoy out at about 12 yards.
So I finally coax him into the decoy. He begins circling the decoy and posturing up. When he hits one of my shooting lanes he stops. The shot is 25 yards quartering to me. I decided to take the shot. He ends up running ruffly a 100 yards before piling up.
Fast forward to yesterday. The temps have been about normal I would say. Well we got the blast of could air from the big front. The temp was 17 degrees with a 20 mph NNW wind. I didn't want to sit in a stand that morning so I elected to sit on the ground.
To start things off right away a small fork buck comes walking into 7 yards. He spots the blob next to a tree but decides to veer off course. No harm done.
About 10 minutes later I spot a deer west of me. I don't have any gear out of my pack or even have the sling off my bow. I scramble to get situated. When I get the binocs on this other deer I notice its another Forky. At this same time a fawn stroles into 20 yards behinds me and catches my wind. She blows a few times and decides to go elsewhere. When I turn around the small buck is actually walking closer to me.
That's when I see ol wacky rack from the picture above show up. He makes a scrape and works over a tree good. After a few minutes he is walking towards the Forky. I get my range finder on him he is 40 yards. I am going to let him have it when he clears a tree.
Just when he clears the tree I hear a grunt to my right. Out of the corner of my eye I see the 8 pointer come strolling in. He stops perfect right in a wide open shooting lane. I guess him to be 30 and put my top pin on the crease of his shoulder. I squeeze the trigger and the arrow is on its way. I hear the thud of a good shot.
He whirls and takes off. I know he is hurting when I see the blood coming from his mouth at about the 10 yard mark of his run.
This is the blood trail I had to follow.
The buck only made it about 40 yards at tops.
Two Ne archery tags filled for me this year.
Finally connected Nov 10th exactly one year from last years buck!! It was a crazy night I hadent seen much for 2 weeks but on Nov. 10th was a different story I got in stand at 12:30 and killed the 10th buck I seen at 2:45 and the funny thing was 8 of them bucks where 10 pointers!!! It was nuts!!! Anyway here he is.
Aaron
Congrats to all - so many big deer hitting the ground!
Veterans day buck. He was cruising and came to a grunt call and a scent bottle with mixture of ammonia and water.
11/10 at 1230 in Ohio. He was trailing a doe when I shot him. He didn't know he was hit and continued to walk behind the doe until he tipped over after 30 yards.
My son and I just got back from our annual whitetail adventure and had a great time, here are the results! These are both public land DIY bucks
There has been some great bucks hit the dirt this year, great job to all, and good luck to all still trying!
Ditto! Lots of great bucks taken!
This thread is pretty amazing.....if I was just getting into hunting and looked at these bucks on this thread, I would say that EVERYONE shoots a P&Y buck each year! It's pretty impressive the bucks that have been shot but 100% WAY above what would be "normal" for most hunters I think.
Congrats again to all, and hope there are many more to come this year!
Indiana, November 1st
Dad still getting it done...at 73 years young.
That's awesome, Paul. Congrats to you and your dad!
GREAT JOBS GUYS, GREAT BUCKS!
I am impressed with the STICK BOW shooter!
Nebraska 11/12

South Dakota public land. 11/12/2014
11-11-2014 Kansas
Big storm destroyed my ground blind in a crp field. I was deciding what to do when I spotted this guy pinned down with a doe. I was able to spot and stalk this guy. No corn, No lease and public land, WIHA and knocking on doors...........
Great buck Mike. Montana boy spot/stalk, heck yea!
My Tennessee Buck named "Nemo" for obvious reasons..
I'll try again.... "Nemo"
Another view, same buck....
Girlfriends first deer that she took with her bow
The area I hunted has been in drought for 3 years...no pheasants and only a couple of middling bucks on camera...so I wasn't being picky
14 November Manitoulin Island Ontario Canada.

Finally killed an animal after 3 months of hunting!
Any field photos Genesis? Looks like a dandy!
Hey Ike was it cold in Nebraska? Nice whitetails everyone!
Congrats to all on your trophies... some real bruisers for sure!
My buck from October 26th in Wisconsin. 10 yard shot.
157 mainframe + 10" basal stickers and 6 1/2 bases
Snort wheezed with mouth from 80 yards and had cell phone out to take a pic and he was 15 yards before I realized his dark chocolate rack would get to 160".Slip camera in pocket, drew and shot him at 8 steps.Livershot ran 60 yards bedded for 5 minutes and expired.
Congrats to everyone. Love to see the young hunters being successful. I lucked into this Kansas brute last week.
Congrats to everyone!! Killed this buck Nov 13. Called him to the buck decoy from 400 yards and shot was under 5 yards!
My son Zach connected on this buck with his bow the opening morning of rifle season. His grandpa and I were glad to be able to help drag the buck out.
What a great thread. Congrats everyone!
I ended a 2 year dry spell with this buck! Man it felt good to watch this buck crash 40 yards from meeting my Slick Trick!
Holy crap, Ron! A very rare perfect 6x6! Congrats!
Ron thats a sweet looking buck u have there...congrats to all!!
My son killed this buck 2 days before I got mine. Nothin beats huntin with your kids. Mike
NJ 8pt. taken on Nov 9th.
Ok I will play. Most of you probably read my thread Never Ever Give Up. If I was new to deer hunting as CAS_HNTR says I would also believe everyone kills PY deer every year. Not so This one is probably average for most folks, and I could not be happier.
Myself and a friend with our 9pts. taken the last day of the season here in PA. I'm on the left.
Nov 16th buck on my property.
One of my best hunts ever, for one of the smallest bucks I've ever shot :)
I believe he's an older buck, and I had specifically targeted him this year after filling an early bow tag.
He and a doe spent over 2 hours in plain sight of me, within 100 yards, and treated me to a show that included a lot of behaviors: vocalizations, chasing, scraping, rubbing, flehmen, grooming, etc. I kept hoping they'd breed, but while the doe tolerated his presence, she wasn't ready to stand for him yet.
Also the first buck I've shot in the snow, and the first time I've killed a deer on my birthday :)
Bake
My buck taken 11/8. 33 yds from the ground
I don't use a blind or hunt out of a tree. He was trailing a doe. This was my first kill with a compound. We've measured him a couple times and came up with 178-180
Great buck, Geeman. Pretty cool to take it without a blind as well. I don't see 180, but then again, I wasn't holding the tape and looks can be deceiving. Heck of a buck either way.
My bow buck that I shot on the evening of the 13th along with my first bow coyote shot on the 14th and then I added the two does with a gun on our gun opener on the 15th. Not a bad three day run.
Congrats to everyone else along the way!!
Oct 1 2014. Eufaula WMA, Oklahoma doe.
Oct 30, 2014 Eufaula WMA, Oklahoma buck.
My dad and I with my first longbow buck. As the years pass it has become more important to hunt with dad than get the deer. It's great when they both happen!
Thanks Carolina. He doesn't look 180 to me either, but he is just solid all the way around. Good brows, good height, good width, and good mass. Nothing is lacking with him
Holy tines, Charlie! Congrats.
11-19-2014
Extra tag (draw)
Heavily pressured public land, 4 hrs away, with limited time to hunt, too good to pass up.
South Dakota mid afternoon at 26 yards on 11-19-14.
WV doe. 11/22/14. Mathews eZ7, Easton ST Epic, and Slick Trick Broadhead.
Charlie you been out west since about mid August...your dog is going to bite you when you get back home.
Congrats to all, I'm waiting on a big one:( to come by.
Zipper custom takedown and Wensel Woodsman head. First night in the stand this year. Taken second week if Oct.
South Texas TC Outfitters morning 2. Free range 25 yard shot.
Shot this old buck on Monday the 24th during Oklahomas gun season. Had trail cam photos of him from 2013 and he hasn't changed much at all. Said I would shoot him if given the chance. Monday I had that chance. Heaviest deer I've taken in SE Oklahoma. 19.5" inside for reference.
On Nov 25 I was able to harvest my best white-tail ever. I stalked in to 60 yards and waited for him to get up and move. About 30 min later he went to run off a smaller buck and gave me an opportunity. Very special day as my 71 yr old grandpa was there with me. Gross 144" Alberta Grandfathers Ranch
Here is a live photo of him 5 days before I harvested him
I've had a heck of a year. Also got a buck with a drop-tine (Rifle) and a coyote but here they are
Second Archery buck, first off public land. First sit on this place too
10/30 wisconsin public land
late season one for the freezer. Young buck had already lost his antlers on Dec 6
Southest Massachusetts, taken this Sat 12-13-14
10-30-2014 9 point. Hunted property of a retired NJ NHL player as a guest for first time. Very easy hunt - very dumb deer which I suppose was refreshing given how pressured my local herd is.
November 1st in PA. 2:30 in the afternoon.
Awesome 20 minute hunt on a rare November 14th snow! My first snow bow buck kill ever. I just love this pic- the red on white exactly as I found this nice 8pt that gave my my favorite classic quartering away shot. Hit high at very end of lung and exited the opposite shoulder. The VPA non-vented 100gr really did the job and had to be wedged out of the dirt.
To cap off my "dream season" I took this 11-20-2014 busted up battle-worn 10pointer in Ohio as a guest with Matt Andersen. A last minute 4 day hunt in the coldest windiest conditions I ever bow-hunted in. I don't know what was better - the buck or fact that I got to quit a day early and not freeze to death!
MBMule's Link
I got this buck on September 3, the 3rd day of the Manitoba archery season. I believe him to be at least 9 years old. The link above has a bit of backstory on him. I didn't realize he was the same buck from year to year, I thought they were different bucks with similar genetics, but I've since realized otherwise. I have photos of him all the way back to 2008, and he was a mature buck even back then.
After the warm temps we had the past couple of days in Southwestern Minnesota, I made plans to harvest a mature buck off a couple of farms I hunt. Trail cameras were placed, stands hung for cold late weather feeding patterns, and the wait begun.
Monday we had freezing rain and 50 mph winds with a couple inches of snow. The temps dropped from 50s to highs in the low teens.
Making my way to my stand tuesday afternoon for a 5 hour sit, I knew the deer would be on their feet early after not being able to feed much the day before and the cold would concentrate the deer back together.
Around 4:00 PM this buck showed up after my number 1 target buck made it to within 100 yards of my stand the other day and decided to turn around and walk the other way.
The does he was with continued my direction and stood 15-25 yards away. 9 of them basically eye level with me. I never moved a muscle but one of the young does caught wind of me and took the group back across the field 350 yards away where they entered the field the first time.
20 minutes late this buck showed up. I studied him briefly as he feed around with the does, scent checking a few of them but none of them were responsive. I couldn't get a real good fix on which deer it was knowing it was not Mr. Crabs my #2 target buck I was pursing. Seeing him facing my direction i could tell he was outside his ears and had lots of points.
I pulled out my grunt call, snort wheezed at him and a couple of grunts and he perked up his ears, curled his lip, and came walking in my direction stopping within 25 yards of my stand.
Camera was going, I was at full draw, and settled in for a shot. My arrow hit a little high and as I shot, the deer turned into my shot placing the arrow quartering into him slightly. The buck ran off to 350 yards to where he entered the field and that was the last I seen him.
I decided to purse the blood trail this morning and made the trip back to South Dakota for a long sleepless night. Got back in the morning with Skullwerx and we were off. We searched for countless hours finding very little blood, 3 beds with a couple drops of blood when the buck stood up, and found out he crossed the road and entered a property I did not have permission for. After 3 hours of waiting to hear back from the land owner I had the ok to purse the buck again.
We entered the property around 2:00 PM and went 100 yards to find my buck not too far into the property. A rush of relief and thankfulness filled me as i placed my hands on this buck. Realizing he is the biggest buck to date I have harvested with a bow.
I owe a lot of time, energy, and some good old fashion good luck for this harvest. I dedicated this deer to my grandmother that passed away earlier this week. I feel she had a lot to do with the harvest of this buck and just being their looking over my shoulder as she had done for me as a child growing up getting into mischief.
Oklahoma 12/20/2014... All smiles!
got this buck from the ground .North texas low fence.
Who doesn't like a big-bodied Illinois whitetail?
Any guesses on the weight?
I will post a better field pic below, but I couldn't pass up posting this photo first. Full size Honda Foreman under there somewhere...

Sorry for the double post. Here is a better field photo.
Great hunt with great friends.
