Lost My Dad ... No Full-Body Harness

Lost my Dad yesterday. He had for years refused to use a full-body harness and it caught up with him. My brother found him hanging from the rope around his waist after a fall. He had asked him that very morning to wear a harness, but my dad wouldn't. We don't know how long he had hung there by that rope, but he was gone. Thankful he knew the Lord and I will see him again. 80 years old and still climbing into a tree stand. We had some great years together and I'm glad he died doing something he loved ... just wish he wouldn't have been so stubborn.
Guys, spare your family some pain and get a full body harness and a safety rope from the ground all the way up. Then clip in and stay that way until you are back on the ground safely. It is well worth the extra hassle.

Man, I'm nearly speechless and I am teary eyed. But, I'm comforted in knowing that you knew he was a saved man, and is home with the Lord right now. It don't make the loss go away but, it sure does make it easier to handle. So sorry to hear this. I hope your dad did not suffer. I have an uncle that hunts out of terrible stands and refuses to wear any safety gear. I have felt for years that I will get this same news about him some day. I've tried so hard to get him to see the light.

So sorry to read this. I use a climbing stand that would be very difficult to ever fall out of but every year I read about someone that looses there life. I keep that harness on. Families are the ones who suffer. Prayers for you and your family.

I want you to know that this thread finally sent me a message I can't deny, and I think that was the message you were trying to send. My father is 66 and has never worn a harness in his 40 years of bowhunting. My wife and I wear ours religiously but I've never been able to convince him. Today I'm going to go out and buy him a vest and I'm going to make sure he uses it or he's not getting in the tree this year end of story.

In your honor, and your dad's, I'll be putting climbing ropes on our stands at our farm. Property policy is no harness = no climb.
You know, not to make light of a serious situation, but maybe the biggest buck your dad has ever seen was walking by, and he got so excited his ticker just gave out and he fell.
Worser ways to go, you know.

Please remember guys that 1/3 of all hunters at some point in their hunting career will fall from their stand suffering severe injury or perhaps even worse. Wearing a harness is the only way to ensure your safety.
