I’m a little embarrassed to post this after reading about all the phenomenal goat hunts guys have been having. I already wish I had to do over again, funny saying that considering I tagged out. I really don’t want to be like SDHNTR(home) and have to arrest my fall with my ice axe to save my life, but I would do it differently next time and go the more challenging route.

Nice report thanks for sharing. Every Goat unit in the state has it's own peculiarities. Not a thing wrong with your hunt at all. Congrats on your success.

Great story! It's good that your shot was anti climactic. I had visions of my goat running down injured for people down below to see. I was glad that didn't happen! I agree that it was much more like a harvest than a hunt for me.

Nice story. You told it well and a great account. Congrats and good luck on all the CO animals. A great goal and it looks like you are almost there.

Not to clear on the harvest picture but is the photo above, different than the one DD got? What do you guys think?

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Dirty D,

Nicely done and congrats on your mountain goat! A beautiful animal.

Thanks for the write up...I enjoyed reading about your hunt.

the goat looks like 8 1/2 to nine inches a nice goat.

Was that a nanny you shot? if it was a billy the picture did not do it justice.

That's a very exceptional billy!! 8.5+" would be my guess.

Great story! and nice goat! Any goat is an adventure, especially for how hard it is just to get the tag.

Nine and bit I think...great bases......with the Mini and Maxi Goat kind of hard to tell.... That is a keeper in any Colorado unit...and likely any unit in the world

I shot a nanny, different from the big guy in the pic above.

After our one day of scouting prior to the opener we thought we had noticed a pattern that the billy's seemed to have nice clean coats while the nanny's had the nappy hair. So I decided the first clean haired goat within range was in trouble.

Turns out our extensive field experience did not quite make us masters goat guides :). I was hoping for a billy but I really wasn't too terribly disappointed. She was a mature nanny, I think she measured 8 1/2". To the untrained eye (like mine) they look pretty dang similar.
