Big Brown Bear Video
Bears
Contributors to this thread:
There is a video over on Rokslide of a bowhunter shooting a massive brown bear in the bear section under "Brown bear or Grizzly?" topic. Thrilling video if you like such things. I know the hunter but won't tell his story or post the link.

Wow. That got my heart going a little just watching the video. Great job by the guide staying cool with the gun.
WOW! That was impressive. Great bear, 28" skull, ivory claws...awesome! Congrats to both hunter and guide.
It was amazing how as soon as the bear got downwind, he caught the hunters' scent, and the charge was on!
A dangerous game indeed! Well executed!
WOW thats awesome it also got my heart going!! Awesome bear and video way to stay calm!!

Crap would run down both my legs ! I noticed the camerman found something else to occupy him . LOL. Like, RUNNOFT ! I would have been helping him !
Awesome. I don't think many people get to weigh their brown bears, that is a pretty big bear
So you don't think you need backup? Haha.
Great footage.
Intense!
Not sure about bears' eyesight, but it Seemed liked that second bear was watching them after the first shot
Great shot by guide too, the gopro gun mount was a cool idea
Good job Jim Where was your recurve
My gut was wrenching after the first shot. I was getting nervous just watching it. Everyone there exhibited great control and unbelievable nerve. They handled it perfectly. Just awesome on everyone's part. God Blesss
I saw that the other day. I was not impressed that the guide had a range finder in his trigger hand with a bear that close. He should have had his finger on the trigger of the protection gun. Only thing is, it may not have been as close as the video made it look. Still it was intense. Mike
Dead Bear at 10 feet is Close enough !!!!
Great Bear and great job.
Gun kill!..........thank goodness!
ya if the bear was really close then he would not have been trying to range it, must have been further than it looked. It ended up really close though!
Not sure but it looked to me like guts poking out the side of the dead bear where the broad head hit. If so "firearm intervention" would have been inevitable anyway.
But that doesn't diminish the intensity of those few moments of exhilarating fear!!
Awesome, just awesome!!!!
Looked to me like the archer hit him twice and the guide was ranging for him. The first shot was probably around 20 yards and a gut shot that passed through and the bear didn’t know what hit him, he even seemed hunched up. Second shot probably would have killed the bear eventually, it looked like a good shot but not before being mauled/killed. Either way the gun had to come into play. A very cool head on the guide for sure. Great video.
Mike, that wasn't Luke and Jordan's first rodeo, that's for sure...
Intense video. Can't wait to try that...
Wow, baby wipes and new chonies please!
That was cool...1400# what a giant!
Damn, I would have needs a bath to clean up the Crap I would have let loose......amazing how calm they stayed!

he was not calm when he missed that slam dunk close range broadside shot #1
did he miss with his 1st arrow then second arrow looks like a gut shot bear how is this a bow kill ?
Good thing the guide didn't shoot like the bowhunter or the Gopro ending might be a little different.
yes he shot low on the first arrow. not even sure he hit, but may have since it hangs 8' low
I know the bowhunter in this video, have known him for over 30 years. He has killed a pile of critters, including being the first non-resident to take Colorado's Big 8. I am a little surprised he missed his first shot, but stuff happens. How many of you would make a perfect first shot on a 1400# bear with the adrenaline slamming through your system? His second shot was right on, but arrows take a bit of time and that is why there is a back up gun.
Fred Bear had two polar bears shot with the gun after he arrowed them and they charged. Bob Foulkrod also had a polar bear about eat him until it was shot with the gun.
Incredible hunt regardless that it didn't turn out as planned.
Gut shot first shot. The blood on the other side is the pass thru spot. Hit him good on the second. bear stumbles when it's charging. It was seconds from going down. Too bad they didn't have more time. Guide gave it till the last split second before shooting. Even tried to scare the bear off from charging.
Polar Bears are a different breed altogether especially when it comes to being stung by a bullet or arrow. Fred Bear finally did it on his third try. I have the video.
Bummer the second arrow didn't have just a couple more seconds to do it's job. Fantastic job by the guide. He waited until the last possible second. Pretty intense video, thanks for sharing.
Ironbow it was a chip shot!! even had a rangefinder !!!
It looks like you were right he did get a very low shot in guts on the first shot. Given that I am surprised the guide did not shoot the wounded bear as opposed to letting the hunter try for a second kill shot. Interesting decision.
So does anyone know FOR SURE? After watching the video several times, it looks to me like a miss on the first shot and a gut shot on the second?? I don't think there is any way the wound on the drivers side could be the exit from the first shot. Too high on the body.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not calling the shooter down. That's hunting.
Great footage!! Not many will have that kind of experience in their hunting careers!
Bou, the guide didn't shoot because the bear showed almost no reaction other than spinning around trying to figure out what happened. Then went on about his business. Probably never felt a thing after the first sting. They edited the video after that. What I'd like to see is the oh crap moments of the hunter trying to get another arrow on the string without being seen while the guide is trying to figure out whether to shoot or not. For some reason that is missing. I bet that was a very interesting 15 seconds or so. I also wondered why the guide was so stuck on the range finder. I would think he would have dropped that at the first shot and been on the trigger from there on out. Especially since he was shooting at something the size of a minivan. Plus they had the other bear watching from a distance. Seemed like very tense times to me. Very cool video.
First shot was at 28 yards and hit low (possibly guts) second shot was 15 yards. I know the hunter and he sent me all the info, just to bad the bear had to charge as it would have been a great bowkill especially on video.
Absolutely. It was just luck of the draw that the bear caught their wind(or saw the camera man) and turned and charged. Otherwise it would have wandered off 50 yards and died. Either way, it had to be an awesome experience.
