What does anyone on the site know about this outfitter from southwestern Alberta.

From: SS75
01-Dec-14
Bou, I never met him in person, but I spoke with him on the phone when I was looking for cougar outfitters. He was very nice on the phone & had a great reputation among my guide & the other houndsmen in the area. You might give Mark Buhrer at BSC a call & get a list of references.

Good luck! Scott

I hunted with him when he was guiding with John Cassidy. Good guy. Tough as nails and focused. Runs a good operation and think a bowsiter Iron Mike killed a toad with him last year.

I have already booked with him through Mark at BSC. Just curious as to any addiitonal insights folks may have. Hunt is Jan 2016

Oh. My.

AB in January....

Some folks have to spend a few days at altitude to acclimate to an area..... I'd have to start in southern CA and take a week or three slowly traveling north for the temps....

Good luck Jim.... might wanna do a Medicinemann and find a walk in freezer someplace for practice.... =D

Ok, yur half way there.... take lots of pics and keep us in the loop.

I have met him, he guided me on an elk hunt. He took over 1/2 of the famous John Cassidy operation. John is known as one the the great cat guides and Jay worked for him for years. He is very focused, very fit and knows what he is doing, you made a great selection with a great guy. He knows cats, bring your camera.

Thought I would post a quick update on my hunt with Jay Fuller. I just got home, killed a nice male cougar on the 4th day. We had good snow conditions, but not a ton of tracks. Treed a femal the first day that I passed, and this guy on the 4th day. Got lucky and found a really fresh track, he didn't run too far, so actually and a pretty easy hike in to the tree.

Jay has great guides, and good dogs. John still hunts with Jay, but mostly from the truck, more than most 77 year olds would be doing in country like that! John is also a super cool guy. Would certainly reccomend Jay to anyone looking for a cougar.

Mine measure (obviously not officially) about 14 3/4" just a little shy of B&C, but way above P&Y minimums. Weight guestimated at 150-160lbs

Congratulations on a great cat Jim! I hunted with Jay in December as I mentioned earlier in the thread. He does have big cats in his area. Jay should certainly be on the top of the list if you are looking for a big cat. His guides Shaun, Eric, and the old boss John Cassidy are all great and fun to be with and will work hard for you even when conditions are tough. Hope to bump into you at P&Y to compare notes. Let me know if you plan on attending.

No, jay doesn't have a website to my knowledge. He is old school. He wouldn't even read this thread when I brought it up! Lol

I booked through BSC, or give me a call and I can help you out. He has very limited number of NR tags, and fills up quick.

I'd say, he had an incredible hunt, shot a great cat and wrote a story about it, sold it cause he's a pretty good writer and can't give any details till it's on shelves for a while. One thing my mother taught me is think good and take the high road.

From: SteveB
04-Mar-16
Yep, always think the best. But for his friends on here he could at least say...."had a great hunt guys....can't wait for you to read my story when it comes out". Or.... "going through some personal issues, will be back on here soon".TTYL

One of the most vocal voices on Bowsite suddenly totally mute? Nah.

From: XbowfromNY
07-Mar-16
I probably wouldn't care, but the comment about "rumors of a game violation" intrigued me.

From: MTsheds
08-Mar-16
He's probably trying to sell the story so he can afford more outfitted hunts. Since he is on the site and not replied and left everyone hanging he has opened himself to speculation.

From: SteveB
08-Mar-16
Not for a few hundred bucks.....

From: XbowfromNY
09-Mar-16
But he already told part of it. Nothing fresh on 1/3 and still nothing as of 1/5. I'm sure he can sell a story even if he simply wrote on this topic that he got a lion and is writing a story.

Let it go guys. If he doesn't want to post the story then so be it. Move on with your life and quit worrying about other people lives. It's his hunt.

21-Mar-16
I did not kill a cat with Noah. Hunted 15 days. Saw many small tracks and treed 5 cats and could have treed many more. Will start a thread on my trip and share my thoughts on the hunt at a later time. Still licking my wounds. Now up to seven trips with 5 outfitters covering 39 days and no big tom to show for it. As far as Bou, I tried to keep up with his hunt through Noah while in Alberta. At first, Noah said they did not kill a a cat. When I talked to Noah last week, he just said they (Jay) did not have a great season. (No real big cats) When I mentioned that there was mention of a legal issue, Noah said no mention was made of one to him. He did say there is a lot of private land in Jay's area but couldn't imagine Jay doing anything illegal. Bou, if you killed and had a good hunt, then congrats. If things went south, I hope it all works out.

From: XbowfromNY

From: Sean D.
21-Mar-16
Its nobody's business what happened. If Bou wanted to say anything he would have already talked.

Let this thread die!

21-Mar-16
Would be nice to know something about his experience before someone else dumps 10k on a hunt and has a bad experience. I don't care to know all the details But I do want to know if people need to stay clear off this outfitter!

From: WildYote
22-Mar-16
I thought everyone said these are about guaranteed as it gets for big cats with Noah's, Jay's, and Byron's outfits?? Bou Bound has told everyone on here for years that save your money and go to Alberta with these 3 outfitters. He also said you are wasting your time in the lower 48. I feel many Canadian hunts are way over-priced such as $5000 black bear, $12,000 mountain lions, and $7-8000 for 30 inch moose plus the taxes and trophy fees. It is time to boycott their high prices and bring their costs in hunts in-line. Although it is just as bad down here in the US.

From: XbowfromNY

Given the big names and prices, there is quite the following on how these hunts turn out. Hopefully we will get answer.

He was hard to judge because he was skinny and his track wasn't exceptionally big, but he had a big head. I told the guys before I left that I had a great time... and, the hunting wasn't bad either. That was not an exaggeration.

Although I was curious, I didn't ask about Bou's hunt and they didn't mention it. I'm sure Jay would have told me about it if I had asked him, but I was already there so it didn't matter to me.

Jay and the crew were top notch. Just like everyone, they all have their own distinct personalities. I happened to get along with them well. Some may not. Their dogs were amazing. Those dogs made it possible for me to kill an exceptional cat despite my best efforts to mess it up. I will hunt with Jay again, if at all possible.

Jay Fuller is still listed as a member in good standing with Alberta Outfitters Society, so he must not have been involed in any misconduct?

01-Jan-17
Huntcell,

Many APOS (Alberta Professional Outfitters Society) members in "good standing" have multiple wildlife act convictions. One of Alberta's most habitual and noteworthy Poacher was the Past president of APOS, Lloyd McMahon. Google him, his record of illegal activities is astounding.

It would be validating for both APOS and their many members in good standing with a clean record if the Society would publish a list of Wildlife Act/Trespassing convictions etc. along with the outfitter's other info.

But that is not going to happen.... buyer beware, be very aware.... A client could and likely should do a legal search, contact Alberta Solicitor General and the Courts to dig out the history of an outfitter/guide....

If that was the case, would it not be a matter of public record? If so, it should be pretty easy to actually post facts rather than spread rumors.

From: snuffer

thanks matt.

01-Jan-17
Matt,

No, records of convictions are not always readily accessible in the Alberta legal system. They very often have to be dug out with effort and a bit of money.

From: Matt
01-Jan-17
My mistake. There was a poster above who seemed to have direct knowledge of numerous convictions of APOS members, so it seems like record of a conviction is something that is discoverable.

Regardless, perpetuating rumors in the absence of proof doesn't seem like the thing to do.

Orion,

In Alberta, hunting while trespassing is considered a violation of the wildlife act, offenders are considered to be hunting illegally, thus it is poaching.

However, if the client was not aware that he was trespassing while being accompanied by the guide, mens rea could apply.

Not the first time nor the last time Fuller has faced these same charges. Yes, it has happened before and after this particular incident. Once may be dismissed as a mistake....

Granted, he guides in a difficult area to run hounds in terms of private and leased land, but this is no excuse for allowing the hunter to make an illegal kill, and this has happened with other species as well.

Ah hell... I took this video several years ago. This is Jay guiding an elk hunter. He did Not have permission to be on this land ( the landowner told the person I witnessed this with) , chasing wildlife with a truck(S). Off video, the hunter and Jay got out and sat down, the hunter pointed his rifle at the elk with the bullet path crossing the Trans Canada Highway at 4 in the afternoon.

The hunter wisely did not fire.

An hour or two after this video, the hunter had a heart attack and died in the field.

T Mac x1000 Exactly! We all make mistakes, but most hunters, and bow hunters in particular, have always tried to cultivate an honorable reputation and most of us will always man up! In my view, the apparent offender would have been well-served to just own up to their mistake, add an explanation and call it a day - thus gaining, at least, a measure of respect.

Given the very opinionated, and at times, somewhat offensive history the person in question has, in this online community, the thing to do is just man up.

Certainly doesnt hesitate to jab at everybody but the big guns around here. We have a ton of really cool and good posters here that are very skilled that deserve respect and by bou their asses are kissed. In my mind a lot of the ppl here that hunt their asses off deserve respect too instead of sneaky condescensing remarks. From: TSI

This whole Thread has become an attack on people who in most cases don't know the person they are speaking of.Bou is a long standing contributor on bowsite sometimes in duals and sometimes able to entertain and provide great experience and knowledge.Bou and I spent plenty of back and forth spats in years past but after we met I got a huge and genuine surprise,a letter of well wishes and an apology for what is simply an internet misjudgment of another's caracter and true personality. Its impossible to judge or know a person through script and I learned that.Bou didn't have to apologize, but he was a stand up guy and did.I respect that and I'm thankful that we became friends.I received a Christmas card wishing myself well and the family this yr from Bou and I know it's kind of mushy but it was nice.I guided Bou,s son last yr and man he's a great kid I really enjoyed our talks and he's a real sportsman and an American patriot enlisted in the military and has been deployed over seas.i don't know anything about the above allegation but I can say the persistence and suggestive comments were crossing the line.An outfitter or guide is the only financial Benifactor in an offense and it seem they were getting a pass and the hunter was getting all the attention.I know irregardless of posts and online banter that the man I met isn't the man being portraited here. And Tmac your still responsible for your defamation!

I'm thinking that TSI should be taking this up with TMAC via legal counsel at this point. And the mods should have taken this thread down a long time ago, because this is gone far, far, far beyond simple "banter" between acquaintances.
